2 out of 5 eggsOK Motherboard but major non-windows Compatibility issues

Pros: It booted.

Cons: 10/100 NIC
Only 2 SATA
Just slightly larger than MiniITX yet smaller than MicroATX...

Other Thoughts: Bought this for use in an UnRAID or FreeNAS server. Tried UnRAID first to discover the 10/100 (!) NIC isn't supported. Moved to try and use FreeNAS instead and the video card is not compatible with FreeBSD 8.3.

Combined with the fact that the VGA output would not work in anything but the BIOS for me and I had to use HDMI just to install anything, it's a very finicky motherboard that has some major issues if you don't want to run Windows.

Attempting to return this and buy something that works for what I need.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the device issues you experienced with your build. If you haven't already, please do contact us. We would like to find out more about your configuration and installs and work with you to possibly find a solution.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Impressed

Pros: Well its wasn't DOA and it didn't cost much. It doesn't use much power, and is quiet. HDMI output is nice!

Cons: Very unstable and finicky to get running. I have been building PC's for 20 years now and it has been a long time since I have had to fight so much with a system to get it running.

I first bought 2 2gig sticks of Corsair ram because it is the brand I like to use, the system would crash on boot as soon as the video driver was installed with both of those sticks. I then ordered a single 4 gig stick of the exact Kingston memory directly from the QVL list in the manual. The system is extremely unstable with that installed.

There is no reason that the Corsair ram shouldn't have worked, it is good ram of the correct specs, it works in everything else I put it in.

I had to dig down into the CD to find 64 bit drivers. They are not on ECS's website. This board is designed to run Windows 7 32bit and only that OS. I don't have that and I am not going to buy it just for this system.

Other Thoughts: At the moment I think I am just going to run it with the 2 gig corsair stick and call it a day. It's stable and does what I need for now. It's a shame this is not better, on paper it looks like a great base for a low cost HTPC.

I wish someone would make something like this that actually works well and has good support of all modern OS'es. I haven't used a 32 bit OS in years, why are they designing this product for one?

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the issues you have experienced with your setup. Unfortunately at this time Intel does not have Windows 7 64 bit drivers for the Intel GMA 3600 series. See the provided Intel link for reference. If you haven't already, please do contact us, as we would like to look into the memory issues you are having and address any other concerns you might have.
