4 out of 5 eggsECS Z77H2

Pros: Met desires for replacing faulty A$R0ck MB and future expansion. 4 slots for memory max 32GB, 2nd video card slot. 6 SATA ports. Free MiniPCIE

Cons: **1st MB had an issue with the 24 pin connector. Newegg was quick with the RMA. ECS replied but did the typical troubleshooting. Since the problem was physical, TS wasn't necessary. **Location of the SATA ports. Hard to get to when the MB is installed. This is dependent on the case used. **This MB was picky to set up at first. It would hang on initial start-up. I couldn't get into the BIOS or boot directory. I resorted to bare minimum components. It hung again. Cleared CMOS. Hung another 3 times. Smooth as silk after that. After each shutdown, I added a single component. Components were simple P&P (3 GSkill RAM, Video card, Sound Card, 2 additional HD)

Other Thoughts: Aside from this instances frustrations, I have owned 3 ECS boards and have been very satisfied. I was not dissatisfied with the customer service of ECS; they were just the typical step by step you get from anyone. Therefore I went with the quickest solution.

3 out of 5 eggsFactor headache medicine into price

Pros: z77 chipset. Great price after rebate. I broke down and ordered when they were bundling a fee 32gb msata ssd - a very nice perk.

Cons: Default BIOS would freeze upon launch in all cases. Very frustrating. I finally found a way around this by flashing the bios through a dos bootable usb. The freezing issues seemed to have been solved by updating the BIOS.

ECS Tech support was non-existant. I created a help request on their website and, at the time of wiring this, nothing has was done about it five business days later

The board's heatsinks are not copper. They are painted gold. Looks cheap.

2 out of 5 eggsIts adequate

Pros: I got it for $50 after rebate. After setup it mostly works within my needs

Cons: The bios hangs with little provocation -- especially if its set to boot using UEFI and there is a problem. If this happens, you have to remove the hard drives or do a hard reset of the bios, as you cannot access the setup screen. Its USB 3.0 header is directly behind the PCI x 16, so if you have a graphics card you may lose your header.

Other Thoughts: I need a Z77 chipset and it seems to be functioning "OK" as long as I avoid the issues above. That said, the Z77 is not a new chipset and there is no good excuse for bios issues.

2 out of 5 eggsNot good for OC

Pros: It is OK for i7 3770K if you don't want OC the CPU.

Cons: For OC, it is fake. You can overclocking the cpu you want and it will show up in BIOS after reboot, but when you boot into window, cpu-z will not show no OC at all. Buy something else if you want OC your CPU.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry about the issue you are having attempting to over clock your system. If you haven't already, in your BIOS, try leaving Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology and Turbo Mode enabled while changing the CPU ratio. Then with CPUz, check your CPU speed again, while under load.

If you continue to have issues or have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

I or any of my team members here at technical support will be able to help you.

4 out of 5 eggsVery good support website

Pros: Clean simple packaging, includes basics you need

Cons: I agree with the other review, the USB 3.0 port gets obscured by long video cards. Most any gaming card would cover this port on the top slot. I used the other fast PCIE slot for my NVDIA card. If they just threw in a 90 degree adaptor in the box, this problem would evaporate. Having the video card lower made getting at the jumpers afterwards challenging, but not impossible.

Other Thoughts: I initially thought my new build was having a MB issue, as it refused to mount my second hard drive, after installing Windows 8.1 pro on the SSD. After updating MB BIOS, drivers, Windows updates, I finally pulled the second drive and tested on my mac with a quad bay bare drive adaptor. It immediately went into alarm and showed "bad drive". So the MB actually performed like a champ, and all the updating, while good, was not needed after all. In retrospect the support website impressed me, as I did not expect much from ECS, as I had never used those products before.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It is what it says it is. Other than the Con noted below, it was a very easy to install motherboard.

Cons: The two PCI-Express slots available for video cards can cause a problem. If you put a long GFX card in the top slot, it'll cover up the USB 3.0 socket for the front header. If you put any GFX card in the bottom slot, you cover up one of the PCI slots. Just a little forewarning if you are considering purchasing this yourself.
