4 out of 5 eggsGood value, no-frills motherboard

Pros: Came in under $40 after rebate. Comes with four RAM slots, six SAT connectors, two frontside USB 2.0 headers and one USB 3.0 header. There are two full-length PCI-E connectors, one PCI-Ex1 connector and a PCI connector for legacy devices. BIOS menu seems to allow for easy overclocking, but I haven't attempted this yet.

Cons: ECS rebates are notorious for taking forever, or getting lost. In this case it took over three months to get my rebate from the day I sent it in. As far as the board goes, it supports Crossfire but not SLI; no big loss, considering this is a low-end, value motherboard. My biggest issue is that the board's depth is much shorter than the micro ATX standard. It does not catch the outer mounting holes on the case, so the board flexes when installing RAM. The RAM slots are pretty close to the CPU fan, and I can see them causing interference problems with aftermarket coolers that are bigger than the standard Intel cooler.

Other Thoughts: I'm using this in a low-cost HTPC setup with a Pentium G3258 and an old ATI Theater Pro 650 tuner. It meets my needs without a dedicated graphics card or overclocking. I've even been able to play games on the Dolphin and PCSX2 emulators during my brief testing, with no slowdown. Your mileage may vary using this motherboard for more strenuous tasks like gaming on high settings.

1 out of 5 eggsA big pain!

Pros: It's cheap, has two PCI slots, has two USB 3 slots (1 in the front) and four slots for RAM.

Cons: Where do I begin?
- The USB 3 port on the front does not work correctly, I get 4MB per sec transfer speed, regardless of operating system or flash drive. Yes I have updated all the drivers.
- On boot up it will sit at the post screen for about 20 seconds before doing anything.
- The worst thing however is that the power connector is so tight I can barely get my corsair psu hooked up, its even latched down but the slightest movement and the machine will just power itself off instantly. There is no way I can get it snugged down any further, it simply won't fit properly, so I am dealing with random shutdowns.

Other Thoughts: That's what i get for being cheap.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Little Board

Pros: I've used these in 5 systems so far. I have yet to have one fail.

Cons: None for this price. Buy it.

Other Thoughts: These have gone up in price since I last used one; they were originally 45$, they are now 75 at the time of writing this.

Throw a cheap i5 and a GTX 960 on one of these and you've got yourself a great little budget system.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: It fit in the case.

Cons: Dead on Arrival (DOA) Will not power up, verified power supply and connection are good, followed instructions on ECS website but nothing.

Other Thoughts: Contacted customer support. Unclear directions, missing links to web pages that they sent me to and now I am paying to ship this piece of trash to California to verify that it is DOA. NEWEGG should remove this company from their vendor list. Great lesson in getting what you pay for.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the issues you have had with your motherboard. To verify this issue, can you remove all components not necessary for POST. Just leave the CPU/CPU fan, memory and power supply. If you have more than one memory installed, try one at a time. Try another power supply if possible. Inadequate power to your components can cause the entire system to lock up at worst, or just cause certain components to malfunction or stop working. A power supply does not have to be dead to be faulty.

If you haven't already, please contact us so we can find out more specifics to your configuration and help find a solution.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's okay

Pros: -It works with the G3258 out of the box

-Has 4 RAM slots

-USB 3 headers

-2 PCIe ports

Cons: -It claims that it has support for overclocking the G3258 and other K-series processors, but I've yet to find an option that allows me to change the CPU ratio

-Only 1 PCI slot (I'd rather have 2 PCI than 2 PCIe, but it's a minor issue on a good microATX board)

Other Thoughts: Who even knows how to get the G3258 overclocked on this, if it can't OC that, then I doubt it can overclock any K-series chip, especially Devil's Canyon ones. Unless there's a BIOS update I'm missing, but it seems to be one from this year and the chip worked right out of the box... no idea. This is actually quite important for me, so if nothing works, I might have to swap it out.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: very affordable. 4 slots of ram.

Cons: seems to be treating my intel g3258 at as locked and won't let me mess with the ratio setting in overclocking.

Other Thoughts: This is after checking for bios update with included software and attempting to use eoc (ecs overclocking software) which doesn't seem to work with this board.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your feedback. It is appreciated. We need your feedback in order to improve the quality of our products and service.

Based on the Intel Chipset specification, it doesn't support OC feature.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Not sure at this time as we did not have a chance to test after installation.

Cons: We ordered the motherboard to refurbish a older display kiosk. We needed 1 VGA and 1 DVI-I outputs. On ECS site, the B85H3-M (1.0) clearly shows 1 VGA and 1 DVI-I ports.

Unfortunately, after installation of the MB in the kiosk casing we found out that the ECS web site was wrong; the DVI port is digital, not analog as specified on their WEB site. This is very disappointing as we relied on the information from the ECS site for this order.

Other Thoughts: Site info should definitely be corrected by ECS.

3 out of 5 eggsSeems fine, possible issue with usb?

Pros: Seemed like a decent board at a cheap price.

Cons: One of our users has many USB devices, and seems to encounter random power downs daily. I was able to reproduce once so ordered a replacement mobo. This improved it to about once/week, but I have been unable to reproduce this.

Perhaps this is a usb power draw issue or something?

Other Thoughts: I had used a USB keyboard and mouse for a week of testing on the second motherboard, but that didn't seem to incite any issues

2 out of 5 eggsInitial BIOS are not Haswell compatible

Pros: It was cheap and had the features I was looking for.

Cons: I did not realize that the Motherboard did not initially have drivers that support the Haswell processor(specifically 4790K). Everything looked ok but once the board came in it would not boot. When I looked everything up it did not specifically state that it would support it but it stated that there is a planned BIOS update to support the core. ETA was TBD. But I would need a Non Haswell core to flash the board before I could use the board and new core.

Other Thoughts: All I can say is this is my fault for assuming that the new processor would be compatible and ensure too look up all compatibility before ordering up cheaper parts. It will save you some headaches.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the issues you have experienced with you motherboard. For reference the BIOS update is for the "Haswell refresh" CPUs. Intel started to release Haswell Refresh CPUs this spring with the 4790K being released a month ago. All other Haswell CPUs are supported.

Normally we update the BIOS for ECS motherboards prior to shipping to Newegg to try and eliminate such issues.

4 out of 5 eggsIt Works

Pros: This mobo works. It doesn't have any bells and whistles and I was a little worried at first that it might not have enough power connections for the fans in my case... but it did. If you're looking for a cheap mobo that has what you need, I suggest it, though It's not terribly "future-proof".

Cons: If I want to upgrade anything in my PC, I'll probably have to upgrade this mobo as well.
