5 out of 5 eggsRuns well!

Pros: -Lots of features for the price. HDMI, 2 USB 3.0, PCI Express 3.0
-Absolutely perfect for a budget build. Did a complete build with 1x8GB DDR3 1600 memory, 1TB Hard Drive, i3-4160 and case with power supply for 300. Great holdover until I can get a 750ti and make a full fledged gaming rig.
-Lots of expandabilty from a MicroATX board.

Cons: -As stated, a dual-layer graphics card will prevent you from using the PCI express 2.0 slot, if you use the 3.0 slot

Other Thoughts: Despite design flaws, this board packs a punch when it comes to expandability on a budget. It can build anything from a cheap celeron-based system all the way up to a Devil's Caynon gaming rig with 16GB of DDR3 RAM. Its also great for cheap gaming rigs like mine that run off cheaper i3/i5 processors - though overclocking features on here are lacking and you're probably better off looking elsewhere if you've got a G3258 unlocked.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Loww Cost Board

Pros: This is a B85 chipset it has 6 Sata connectors (4 at Sata III and 2 at Sata II) new UEFI BIOS.

Cons: Only 1 USB 2.0 header on board, No Raid

Other Thoughts: I have tested it with both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 both work. UEFI BIOS is just eye candy the only difference is UEFI supports secure boot

4 out of 5 eggsFeature Laden Budget Board with a Couple Big Goofs

Pros: Sale Price
Free Shipping
Modern, Full Featured UEFI Bios
Intel B85 supports 4th-Gen Intel CPU's
Four SATA 6 ports
Helpful 72 page manual

Cons: Only one internal USB 2 header on board. WHAT ?
There is no RAID.
PCB is thin
PCI Express x1 slot covered and unusable when using double size videocard
No forum at ECS site
Unhelpful 312 language quick start guide.
Fingerprint smudges on board battery
Resetting BIOS causes date and time loss..WHAT?

Other Thoughts: I wanted a micro ATX board to stick in my ATX case and I did not want to spend much money. The computer this board went in is my back-up system running Windows 8.1 that I use to test new
programs. I had an ECS board in the past and it never gave me any problems. This board is well reviewed by guys that own them.

This is not a gaming board but rather a business board. Intel Small Business Advantage offers six applications
that backup and restore data, a PC Health Center, Software Monitor, USB Blocker, Energy Saver and Wireless Display. Just make sure your Intel CPU is on the list.

In business I would think data critical so at a minimum offer RAID 1

Setup was easy and the system booted right up. Always a plus.

I looked through the BIOS and found under Boot Menu the option:
"Operation SYstem Select" with sub menu options
1) Windows 7 or other OS
2) Windows 8.x
3) Manual

Since I am running 8.1 on the system I selected that and saved.
On reboot there was no display to the monitor.
This occurred whether I used the on board or a discrete video card. The only way to get the system to boot with video output was to clear CMOS. Clearing CMOS also caused date and time to be lost. Since when is that normal? 1990?
Fingerprint smudges on board battery ? Hmmmmm?
I replaced battery but it didn't make a difference.

There are a pantload of options on that BIOS page and some manual adjustment may need doing. I put in a support ticket at ECS and promptly received an automated e-mail..."We got your support request" reply. I would like to hear from them.

System Specs:

ECS B85H3-M3
Celeron G1820 Haswell Dual-Core
8 gig GSkill PC 12800

This is almost a 3 Egg board. The PCIe placement is worth a whole egg off and the BIOS issues are significant enough to almost warrant a loss of another egg but not quite.

Looking back I might have spent a few more bucks but after all I just needed a basic board.

Recommended if you want a no frills mobo at a good price.

5 out of 5 eggsCorrection!--bought 4, all work

Pros: Compact, lots of USB ports, economical.

Cons: Not the easiest to troubleshoot, flimsy VGA connector.

Other Thoughts: I wrote a previous review stating that 3 of 4 units I'd bought were bad. Turns out that it was the CPUs, not the motherboards! The motherboards all work fine with a good CPU. They failed in different ways with the bad CPUs, making it harder to troubleshoot by comparing what went wrong, but I don't buy motherboards for how they handle broken hardware but for how they work with working hardware. And these all work great.

1 out of 5 eggsBought 4, only 1 works

Pros: Inexpensive, lots of USB ports.

Cons: Bought four. One works. Two are completely dead. One tries to power up but doesn't make it to POST. 25% success rate--terrible.

Other Thoughts: This product is discontinued, but I would not buy from ECS again.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing with your motherboard. Prior to shipping from our factory, all motherboards are tested to ensure that they are working properly. A DOA issue can be caused by any of the main components, including CPU, memory, power supply and motherboard. If possible we would recommend testing the motherboard in the following fashion.

Remove the motherboard from the case, with only CPU, CPU fan, memory and power supply connected. Place on a flat non static surface. Reseat the CPU. Test with only one memory at a time and reseat memory. Ensure that both the 24 pin and 4 pin (ATX12V) connections are connected from the power supply. Connect the power button from the case or short the power pins (6 and 8) to power on the system. If still have any issues or questions, please contact us and we can work with you to find a solution.

The odds of having 3 out of 4 motherboards fail are quite high. If you continue to have issues please contact us as we would like to find out more details on your configurations and help find a solution.

I or any of my team members here at technical support will be able to help you.
Our hours are Mon-Fri 9am-6pm PST.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat low cost

Pros: Great low cost motherboard for socket 1150 with an abundance of features.

Cons: the closeness of the pci-e ports pose a problem when you have a double slot video card and the second slot cannot be used.

4 out of 5 eggsNice board

Pros: Inexpensive - though now I see it on sale for $14 less than I paid! Boo. It seems sturdy and well made and has a lot of features for a "value" board. Three video outputs - VGA, DVI and HDMI. USB 3.0, lots of connectors and even has a standard PCI slot. Has four memory slots, not common on Micro ATX boards. It looks like it might support overclocking but I'm not interested.

Cons: I'm not sure how big a con this is. But on my board I cannot enable "IGD Multi-Monitor" in BIOS. My BIOS screen looks just like what it shows in the book. But I don't have the choices it says I will have under "Initiate Graphic Adapter" AND "IDG Multi-Monitor" is stuck on Disabled. I cannot change it to Enabled as shown in the owners manual.

I'm not sure how big a deal this is - Windows still detects both monitors (I have one hooked up VGA and the other DVI) and I can still expand my desktop across both monitors. But I think it might still be something detrimental because if Aero is enabled the second monitor will not fill the screen. If I use a basic windows theme (which fortunately I prefer. Aero is a gimmick and nothing useful) then it works just fine.

I'm actually dropping one egg as much for all the garbage loaded on the driver CD as I am over the video issue that I'm not sure is a video issue. I don't think I've ever encountered a motherboard driver CD that tried to install a bunch of games, trial ware and just junk. When I realized what was going on I terminated the program and installed manually.

Other Thoughts: I've tried looking for an updated BIOS but ECS's website is slow and I can't find downloads. So instead I submitted a support ticket, which took forever on ECS's slow, hard to fill out support screen.

2 out of 5 eggs2 serious issues

Pros: Price

Cons: 2 serious issues:
1. I also experienced the USB3.0 pin header issue as reported by another reviewer. It is recessed back from the edge of the board just far enough that the 20 pin connector I had would not fit into it. I tried too hard and ended up breaking the housing on the motherboard USB header in my attempt to get it in. I tried breaking the plastic completely hoping that I could wind up with enough access to straighten the pins and make a solid connection. All aboard the fail boat.
2. I'm running Intel Core i3-4130T Haswell with CPU Intel HD Graphics 4400. I cannot get audio out on hdmi after coming out of sleep on windows 7. A reboot is needed. Not sure if motherboard problem or chipset graphics problems, but very disappointed with this. I interrupt my recordings from HTPC if I reboot.

I did not return the board, but am living with it. YMMV.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your feedback. It is appreciated. We need your feedback in order to improve the quality of our products and service.

5 out of 5 eggsHas a CIR port for HTPC

Pros: I bought this for 1 reason, the CIR port, and have confirmed the port works great with IR remotes and you can turn the PC totally off and back on, not sleep. You need to buy a cheap <$20 IR receiver.

Cheap, and has solid caps.

Cons: the driver install disk stinks! Don't use it, just download each driver and install independently. The disc was super super slow and installed a bunch of other b s I didn't want.

Other Thoughts: can not find the bios version anywhere but works so not going to upgrade it..

Surprised my normal motherboard vendor no longer includes a cir connector, oh well this one works fine.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard

Pros: Okay, I was originally skeptical about purchasing this motherboard as though I've never heard of them.. but this was my second ecs board, very easy to understand instructions, comes with user guide , driver install disk, rear io panel, and 2 sata cords... Right now my rig is
Asus Radeon R9 270
6gb Crucial 1600mhz ram
Sandisk 64gb SSD
WD blue 1tb
Raidmax 500w PSU

And everything works perfectly.. but! see cons...

Cons: Unfortunately i think its with all ECS boards, they are measured incorrectly... my old board stated micro atx and it is bigger by a decent amount.. and with that issu.. no more pci-e wireless card as it doesnt fit.. but not such a big deal for the price of the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: If you purchase this board.. make sure itll fit your case.. seems to be micro-ITX
