3 out of 5 eggsGood Board, not so good video

Pros: Cheap, fast, and uses almost Zero Energy

Cons: Integrated Graphics do OK for Netfilx, and some very light gaming, but fail when trying to watch 1080i/p video. Running 16gb of 1600 ddr3 with the max of 2gb shared to the iGpu and cannot watch most of my digital library on this machine.

Other Thoughts: Get a seperate video card, and this will be great for just about anything but heavy gaming.

2 out of 5 eggsGood processor, lousy company.

Pros: The A6-5200 is plenty fast.

Cons: Lousy memory support (couldn't get my 8gb module to work)

Lousy tech support from company (filling out a ticket is a nightmare, and they require things like the serial number, which is nowhere to be found).

UEFI BIOS doesn't support memory timings, just speeds. It adjusts timings own its own based on the speed, regardless of how you change them. It's also buggy and counter-intuitive.

Other Thoughts: If you can find this processor in a different motherboard, from a different maker, go for it.

Do not buy from ECS, they did as poorly as one could have expected.

Also, this board does NOT support XP. It will work, kind of, but because the Kabini has no XP drivers from AMD, the iGPU is not support, making for a very awkward XP experience. It's essentially unusable on XP, but runs fine on Windows 8.1. I wish it were the other way around.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the issues you have experienced with your motherboard.

For your and any others reference, support can also be reached by email or phone. See the contacts below and contacts are listed on each ECS product page on Newegg. For future reference, when filling out an online support request, required fields can be filled out with anything. For this motherboard the serial number is on a sticker on the side of the rear audio input stack.

If you are still having issues with your memory configuration, please feel free to contact us. We are here to help.

I or any of my team members here at technical support will be able to help you.
Our hours are Mon-Fri 9am-6pm PST.

Thank you,
Andy

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome, more powerful than expected

Pros: Very nice UEFI interface
Able to change memory voltages, speeds to accommodate faster timings or higher MHz/voltage
Multiple settings for optimization inside EFI for CPU, fans etc
Super low power consumption (25w)
PCI x16
Two Sata 6G
USB3
Two PCIe ports
Supports VI
Supports 32GB RAM
HMDI out

Cons: It's getting tricky to find this APU, and ECS stopped making this board :(

Other Thoughts: Really a very nice combo for the money. The board is loaded with a lot of features and has a solid APU from AMD (I'm an Intel bulder at heart, but you can't find these specs with Intel ITX for under $300).

I'm running this board in a SteamO box with no additional GPU and, with some tweaking, have been able to run many games at 30-40 FPS on good settings without turning this into a 100 degree C oven.

4 out of 5 eggsFair Unit

Pros: Small Form factor
Smokes an e-350D there is a night and day difference in the power and speed between these two processors.
Quite, I drove the processor at 100% for month and I couldn't hear it and it didn't break 55C, but I didn't have it in a case.
Doesn't need an SSD to feel speedy, but it dose help.

Cons: Limited pci-e slot (only for video cards, loss of one egg)
No vista drivers, but there are XP drivers there
I couldn't get the USB 3.0 to work but that may be on my end since I have 3 computers with USB 3.0 and none of them work.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to drive my 780 for folding at home, it doesn't require a full 16X pci-e slot for this type of operation, All I could get out of it was about 90% utilization, so I went back to my X6. An E-350D would only get me about 82% utilization.
It would be great for an daily computer that used email, and internet and some older games from the early 2000, but for an home server since there is only two Sata ports and the pci-e cannot be used to expand I would suggest else ware.

3 out of 5 eggsNice little board...

Pros: Works great with Windows 8.1. It runs a little faster than a 65w 2 GHz quad-core AM2 cpu that I use to run Windows Media Center, but this board uses only 25w of power. Very quiet operation. Fast sata ports, supports large amount of ram, and supports VT.

Cons: The on-board network card is not recognized by pfSense 2.1.1 or Endian Firewall 3.0.0 or Ubuntu Server 12.04.2. The screw hole for the short mini PCI-e slot was not tapped, which means its has no threads so it wont accept any screws. (the long mini PCI-e slot screw hole is fine) Has no on-board USB 3.0 connector/header for front panel connections

Manufacturer Response:

hank you for your feedback. It is appreciated. We need your feedback in order to improve the quality of our products and service.

If you haven't already, please contact us so we can look into and address your concerns with the NIC and the screw hole for the mPCIe.

I or any of my team members here at technical support will be able to help you.

5 out of 5 eggsGood for MMO gaming

Pros: Low power, fast booting, very small (fit with much room to spare in the SilverStone Sugo case series). Great general windows/browser performance. Good for light gaming and MMO playing.

Cons: Not overclockable. Concerned about the longevity of the tiny CPU fan.

Other Thoughts: Star Trek online (Good settings, w/o shadows) 30 FPS @ 1680x1050
World of Warcraft: (Good) 22 FPS @ 1680x1050, (Fair) 35 FPS @1680x1050

*Note, this is with very slow memory (DDR3 1066) and slow 5200 RPM HDD from another PC. These performance numbers could be much higher with better RAM.

4 out of 5 eggsSnappy HTPC on a Tight (Power) Budget

Pros: - Complete HTPC packaged board
- 25W TDP
- Great graphics capability for HTPC
- Stock fan is relatively quiet (I upgraded see Other Thoughts)

Cons: - mSATA compatability with Muskin mSATA SSD

I took off one star in the rating since I couldn't get the mSATA to work with my Mushkin SSD. I'll investigate if ECS will help on this one.....

Any ideas ECS?

Other Thoughts: Nice clean build with only the ODD's power and SATA cables.

Components:

- ECS KBN-I/5200 miniITX /w A6-5200 APU
- Habey EMC-800B Black 3mm aluminum Server Chassis
- Kingston HyperX blu 4GB KHX1600C9D3B1/4G DDR3-1600MHz CL9 DIMM
- PICOPSU-120-WI-25 12-25V DC-DC ATX Power Supply
- Fractal Design Silent Series 50mm Ultra Quiet Cooling Fan 3500RPM (case cooling)
- Fractal Design Silent Series R2 40mm Fan (upgraded CPU fan)
- Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT240GB-DX mSATA 240GB SSC (but i had to use a StarTech SAT2MSAT25 2.5in SATA to Mini SATA SSD Adapter Enclosure since the mSATA slot wouldn't recognize the SSD)
- LG Blu Ray ODD Model CT21N
- Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate

The upgraded fans create a practically silent HTPC.

Win 7 WEI:
Processor - 6.2 (not bad for a 25 Watt CPU!)
RAM - 5.9
Aero - 6.2
Gaming Graphis - 6.2
SSD - 7.8

3 out of 5 eggsWorks Great - Without PCIe Card

Pros: The motherboard works great! The fan on the CPU heatsink isn't very loud and it doesn't consume much power.

Cons: I tried to stick a PCIe x1 TV Tuner card in the PCIe slot and the computer would not output integrated video using HDMI or VGA. There isn't a setting in the BIOS / UEFI to enable integrated video.

Other Thoughts: I contacted ECS about the issue and they said, "Unfortunately the PCIe slot is for graphics only"

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the issues you have experienced. We sincerely apologize that we can't meet your expectation. Due to the hardware design, the PCIe x16 slot can only support VGA card.

I or any of my team members here at technical support will be able to help you.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Gentoo/XBMC box

Pros: Have it working perfectly as a XBMC machine running Gentoo Linux. Not sure what other review(s) are going on about when they claim poor Linux compatibility. Everything works fine, even accelerated video decoding w/ HDMI audio out--even have VSYNC enabled to prevent tearing!
Also have streaming of Adobe flash movies from Google play, youtube, etc working.
STRONGLY recommend this platform for a media center machine when running Linux!

Entire system uses roughly 17 W at the outlet when idle, although I haven't yet started working on aggressive power savings so, hopefully, if I can get this even lower...

Cons: I suppose the price is a little high but I prefer it over the 1.5GHz clocked model as there are times when playing adobe flash movies that the extra clockspeed helps...
