DFI has long had a notable reputation within the overclocking community and their DK 790FXB-M2RSH motherboard continues the trend. Based on AMD's 790FX and SB750 chipsets, it is ready to host the latest AM2+ Phenom quad-core processors along with other Phenom and Athlon single- and multi-core CPUs using the AM2 or AM2+ socket type.
Up to 8GB of DDR2 1066 can be installed with dual channel and Hyper Transport 3.0 technology providing increased performance. AMD OverDrive offers further increases in performance tuning using Advanced Clock Calibration. A trio of PCI-Express 2.0 x16 cards can be mounted for cutting-edge graphic power with multiple configurations of 2, 3 or 4-way CrossFire combinations.
Get eight channels of HD sound from the Realteck ALC885 audio codec with high-performance DAC's offering 106db dynamic range. Connect up to six SATA devices at 3Gb/s for high-speed data transfers as well as the option for multiple RAID configurations. Integrated Gigabit Ethernet LAN allows bottleneck-free connections to other network devices at broadband speeds and a half-dozen USB 2.0 ports allow for nearly unlimited possibilities in connecting peripheral devices.
Pros: I've owned nearly every brand of motherboard out there except DFI up until now. All I can say is I was missing out!
The BIOS is like none other. Very custom, very cool. You can pick from 4 BIOS profiles before you load up windows. It even has one called "AMD K10 Black Edition" (you can rename the profiles as you see fit). This allows me to have an "everyday" clock, one mild overclock, one extreme overclock, and maybe one underclock just for kicks.
I love this board. Black PCB is nice too.
Cons: The heat sinks could have been interconnected by a heat pipe like some other brands have been doing, but I can't complain. It delivers on performance without getting uncomfortably hot and that's what counts for me.
Other Thoughts: DFI has won me over. As long as they continue to make such overclocker-friendly hardware I think I might never buy another brand again.
Note: Hit 3.0ghz without even activating ACC. Looking forward to more overclocks in the coming days. With AMD Overdrive, DFI Auto Boost System, and the slew of options in the BIOS, I think I may upgrade to water cooling just to see how high I can take it.

Great board
Reviewed By: mackbaz on 10/15/2008
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Great board. It works, has all the features i want, runs cool. It has a very good price too. I paid more for my k9a2 platinum last school year. the motherboard runs cooler than the asus competitor to this. My asus ran around 45-50C this one runs from 32-42C.
Cons: No eSATA, but I wouldn't use it anyway. Also I liked the spongy i/o plate with the matte black finish from the asus, but the board would not work while using s3 sleep and this one does, so i use this one.
Other Thoughts: Solid board. Only other thing is if you are using crossfire, you have to change some stuff in the bios for it to run at 16x and by default you need to crossfire connectors and it only gives you one. I think though with the LO, L1 settings in the bios you can select which bridge to use. I just through another on there and it works great with my two 3850s

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: board looks great, heatpipe cooling, FX790 / SB750 chipset, well packaged, quality PCB, bears the DFI name
Cons: Finally happened, got a board that wouldn't post. And no, I didn't do it wrong. The board layout/jumpers are simple enough to figure out via the manual, except for PCI-e-3 jumpers. I stared at the manual info for some time but never could make sense of what they were trying to saying I had to do.
I found the on-board speaker jumper set to ON (according to the manual the Default is OFF) so maybe this board - though the bag seemed sealed - had been opened and tried by someone before it got to me? But the seal looked intact (however, careful fingers can remove and replace it without showing any sign of having been removed).
Looked like a great board, great price too but was a little saddened that I had to RMA it back to Newegg. I asked for a refund rather than a replacement and Newegg approved the request immediately.
Other Thoughts: Newegg is the best online merchant I buy from ... FIVE EGGS for you Newegg {}^ )
DFI might need better quality control? I do not know really. One reviewer said if you can't make it boot you're doing it wrong. I would agree - if I were setting the BIOS to OC and not doing it right - but anyone who has experience building computers ought to be able to make it to the BIOS screen without any troubles or having to set jumper configurations, don't you think? Sure would cut down on RMA's and lost sales {8^o
Gave the board 3 eggs (middle of the egg rating choices) since it's a DFI board and it has a very good review at modreactor.com and many the same here at newegg. Also has too many one egg reviews and I hope DFI responds to them in an appropriate manner.

DOA

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: DOA
Cons: Was warped so much it looked like it had been sitting in a moist area for its entire existence, possibly the bottom of the ocean.
I give the review 4/5 based on Newegg's RMA process (aside having to pay to ship a DOA product back)
Other Thoughts: @Newegg: Change your RMA process so that when YOU ship a DOA part, YOU pay for it's return.
I can understand people paying for RMA shipping if the product was not what they wanted or needed.

DFI and Newegg rule !

Pros: I have had this running perfect since late april 09 with a phenom II X4 940 Black, With G.Skill 4GB DDR2 1066 (PC8500) Dual channel, I added better cooling for proc, North and south bridges, Overclocking is endless though seems just fine all stock, Very stable I love it, At 1st had to get a newer bios to get 1066 option after that perfect. Great layout.
Cons: Stock cooling for N +S bridges might be iffy to make it last depending on your environment.
Other Thoughts: Wish there were way more coolers for north and south bridges to choose from here on Newegg (Exstreme Air) stuff for this type of board, But I'm getting by with 2 Jing Tings, DFI made a real good board here. Can only get stability using orange slots for 2 sticks of mem, But my older DFI LP NF4 Ultra D Didn't like the mem in the yelloew slots either. Gook Luck! Newegg has not done me wrong yet !
