Get more for your money with the TFORCE TA790GX motherboard by BIOSTAR. This ATX board supports AMD's Socket AM2 and AM2+ single- and multi-core CPU's including the Phenom, Athlon 64 X2 and Sempron processors. Install up to 16GB of DDR2 memory with dual channel support to power through complex operations. Hyper Transport 3.0 technology massively increases the CPU bandwidth at lower power levels for cooler operation.
The board features the AMD 790GX chipset with an integrated ATI Radeon HD 3300 graphics adapter. Two PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots support CrossfireX technology to deliver maximum horsepower to take on any graphics challenge. It supports HDMI output – letting you display your video on any HD flat-screen television. The onboard audio chipset delivers 8+2 channels of sound to enhance your viewing or gaming experience.
Besides the two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 lanes for the CrossFireX video, there are also 2 PCI-Express 2.0 x1 and 2 PCI slots providing the flexibility for further system enhancements. Storage won't be a problem with six SATA 3 Gb/s connectors. Four USB 2.0 ports allow you to attach peripherals and integrated Ethernet lets you connect to a home or business network.

Read about it, THEN do it. OK?!?
- Pros: Very decent for the money. People have problems when they try to do something without reading about it first.
If you get the right combination, the price/performance is unbeatable. I like B*ostar's build quality for the money.
- Cons: You might have to upgrade the bios. If you can't, take it to someone and let them chew your gum for you, also.
AM3 procs (phenom and II) will unlock 1066 ram speed. The AM2 procs can only do 800 on default bus speeds.
Ram will show -256mb based on how much you allocate to the IGP, the integrated graphics processor, which uses system ram in lieu of dedicated graphics memory. This means your ram overclock might affect the IGP also.
The dual monitors off IGP idea is flawed to begin with. If you get it to work, you win. If not, buy a graphics card.
There isn't a lot of room when you enable crossfire. Deal. Crossfire is 8x, not 16x, deal again.
Sound devices must be hidef to use hidef sound.
No fan for the mosfets, wacky *if decent* support and drivers, everything will work it's just not always intuitive.
Not for noobs, buy a bigger brand and call the hotline. You have to be able to read, AND follow directions. If you're electrically challenged, please buy a
- Other Thoughts: Don't crank up the overclock to insane levels right off the bat, ease into it and uptick in small increments. People who just up the voltage without watching temps and stability really ask for what they get.
DOA? Again? Lol... Never had one yet.
Great board, great value.
- Pros: Great board. Loads of options in the BIOS. Everything worked like a charm, straight from the initial installation. Even with mismatched RAM (before I got my PI Blacks), everything ran smooth as silk. On stock cooling, I was able to overclock my x3 720 to a max of 3.888ghz. We'll see what I can pull off with a Core Contact.
- Cons: None that I've seen.
- Other Thoughts: Even with my mismatched RAM (1gb DDR2 667, 2x 256mb DDR2 533...hey, it's all I had at first.) it ran like a charm, and I was able to overclock to 3.775ghz max. This board coupled with an x3 720 is a force to be reckoned with.

Still great after 8 months
- Pros: Have had this board with a Phenom II X3-720BE, 8Gb GSkill , BFG 980GTX+ OC 1Gb vid since Feb. Runs great. No problems at all, runs Win 7 RC 64-bit great. Online BIOS upgrade function works fine both times I've used it.
- Cons: Yeah the location of master PCI express slot could be a problem for some but I have a big case w/plenty of cooling.
- Other Thoughts: Have used Biostar boards many times in the past and think this TA790GX-128M is one of the best I've used.
Bios flash isn't going to do it, sorry.
- Pros: The plethora of features built into the board are phenominal. The auto OC setting (V6/V8/V12) is a nice feature and, of course, Fusion is outstanding. I'm not an experienced OC'er, so this feature was a plus, keeping this rating from bottoming out at one egg.
- Cons: My board was supposed to handle an AM3 chip, because of the updated bios, but didn't. When you get the box it clearly has printed on the front 'AM2+'. Got it built with an AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0GHz 95W Deneb. When loading the chipset drivers it kept telling me (that's after I flashed the bios first) 'Hardware is not installed'. So I went to the AMD site and tryed loading from there - same error message.
- Other Thoughts: My system got up and running, but eventually degraded to a looping boot. First thing I thought of was the chipset drivers. Now I've got a Biostar that specifically states that it is an AM3 board.
Great Board
- Pros: After 7 months running this board with a 9850 x4 be its been a pleasure. The bios has plenty of options for overclocking. It runs fast and is very versatile especially for the price. Its taken whatever RAM I wanted to throw in and picked up the correct timings for each one. Itll take such a wide variety of processors.
- Cons: None so far.
- Other Thoughts: The low placement of the 16x pcie creates a bit more heat but a well ventilated box there is no issue. It made for a very easy build. You will need to update the bios.
