Great board, great value.
- Pros: Great board. Loads of options in the BIOS. Everything worked like a charm, straight from the initial installation. Even with mismatched RAM (before I got my PI Blacks), everything ran smooth as silk. On stock cooling, I was able to overclock my x3 720 to a max of 3.888ghz. We'll see what I can pull off with a Core Contact.
- Cons: None that I've seen.
- Other Thoughts: Even with my mismatched RAM (1gb DDR2 667, 2x 256mb DDR2 533...hey, it's all I had at first.) it ran like a charm, and I was able to overclock to 3.775ghz max. This board coupled with an x3 720 is a force to be reckoned with.
Definitely strong board!
- Pros: Board installed easily and accepted my Phenom II x3 710 with no problems at all. The bios shows that it's very easy to overclock, with good automatic overclocking features that I haven't tested yet.
The 2 nVidia graphics cards that I tested in it don't seem to run at full potential and the biostar technician that I talked to said that it's either a defective card (8800 GTX and 6800GT) or that the PCIE slot was defective. I'm going to vote that the cards are bad, and switch to a Radeon 4850 here soon. The tech support was very quick with responses.
The onboard LED indicators show exactly what's wrong when you boot, if anything (VGA error, memory, or CPU). If both are on, you have 0 errors. The board is a little smaller than my previous one, a gigabyte NF4 which may be a pro for some people. It runs the processor at 20C idle, and the system stays at 22C idle. I can't wait to OC this thing!
Very sturdy and durable motherboard. Cons became minor problems The manual is very info
- Cons: THE PCI-E MASTER SLOT IS ON THE BOTTOM! My big graphics cards block 1 of 2 regular PCI slots! I can only put my soundcard in next to the master video card, and they are VERY VERY close together. It worried me a little, so I moved some fans around in my case.
6 Sata slots, but they are facing the front of the case, which I don't personally like, but some people may. (It will keep the wires towards the front of the computer, away from the mobo, if wired correctly.
The driver CD that was sent won't read on any computer I put it in, so I can't use any of the programs that came with the motherboard until I return or get a new disk.
The power HDD, +/- LED, reset and power buttons aren't color coded correctly but the book has everything on the motherboard labeled correctly.
- Other Thoughts: I torched a 500W PSU and an old IDE Hard drive while messing around with all of my graphics cards and wiring options, but it didn't hurt the mobo at all. The capacitors claim to have 6.5x the life of regular capacitors, which I'd believe after that little mishap.
Only 3 fan slots exist on the motherboard (1 CPU fan, and 2 regular fan slots.) Which bothered me a bit, because they are spaced out and the 3rd, at the bottom, is located behind my sound card.
All in all, I beat this thing to hell the first day I had it, and it took everything I threw at it and still booted properly. I never hurt the CPU or anything electronic on the board.
Onboard graphics saved me while I was messing around with my graphics cards, but for someone without a VGA adapter you might be a little lost if you have the problems I encountered.
Good board, good buy. Thanks biostar and I hope your board lasts me as long as it claims to.

I'm happy with it
- Pros: Good for a gamer on a budget as you can use your old DDR2 RAM if you don't want to spend money on DDR3. Six SATA ports suit me well. I hear the onboard video is not terrible, but I've got two 5770s, so I'm not really using it.
- Cons: I hear some people have had BIOS issues with AM3 procs. I've got a Phenom II 940 AM2+, so I didn't run into that problem. The "Master-Slave" layout is kinda silly. I didn't think boards were supposed to need that anymore. It would have also been nice if Biostar included spots on the right edge to screw into motherboard spacers. It kinda makes installing RAM, the power supply, and an IDE drive a little scary--you feel like you might snap the board.
- Other Thoughts: I saw a couple reviews that noted you couldn't Crossfire certain cards. Just to make it clear--you can do a dual card setup, just some cards won't work with the onboard video. The manual that comes with the board only goes up to the 4800 series, but believe me, the 5000 series crossfired works great.
an awesome board
- Pros: absolutely amazing board; has a great layout, great number of ports, crossfire. the integrated graphics card makes playing farcry 2 on max settings a breeze. not only that but the biostar customer support is great as well. when i lost my drivers CD they responded quickly to my emails and it was easy to find the downloads for the drivers. got this bundled with a AMD 3.2ghz quadcore a year ago for about 250 bucks, great combo, and im loving it.
- Cons: ... blue? why is it blue? with the name BIO you would think it would be green.
taking your 5 eggs down to 4.98694 eggs.
- Other Thoughts: great board, and the biostar team is great as well.. though, blue?
Whats the deal with this thing?
- Pros: Great overclocking settings in BIOS.
- Cons: Now the weird thing. When I got this mobo, I installed a AMD Phenom X3 720 and it was fine, this is before the BIOS updates were available for AM3 chips. I OC'd the chip to over 3.5 ghz and it all was very stable. Couldn't unlock the 4th core sadly. Anyways when I ran the bios update, I was unable to boot the system with the same CPU settings. The absolute Max i can run satble is 3.3 ghz. Okay.. I guess I can live with that. So i have it for almost a year and the other day I turn on the PC and it doesn't POST. NO LED ligfhts on the MOBO= cpu or chipset error. Called BIOstar and RMA'd the board the next day.. Waiting for my replacement now.
- Other Thoughts: Turned the computer off for literally 20 minutes, which is probably the most time the computer has been off in the year i have the board, then go to burn it bck on and nothing. Hopefully BIOSTAR gets me my new board soon!
Also, as always NEWEGG is topnotch!
