1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy if you want RAID in Windows 7

Pros: Not many.

Cons: I bought this board for RAID 5 support. I have tried everything that I know to get it to work with Windows 7 - 64 bit with no luck. I have to run a lower resolution because of the right-side, red-bar that the ATI video controller produces at higher resolution (I should have known better to buy anything with ATI on it). Also, I run this computer on a KVM. Either the video or keyboard is blinking out randomly causing loss of control. It is also a total loss of money.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Board

Pros: This is my first build, was concerned when I saw some of the reviews on this board. However, things went great, just took my time, did lots of research on all products, made sure I was grounded when handling all items of build. Board posted up 1st time, Windows 7 Prof. 64 bit installed without a hitch. Did not do any bios updates, as Biostar website cautions not to do any if your board is running fine. Be sure & use compatable memory to alleviate any headaches. Things could not have run any smoother, am very impressed so far. I recommend to everyone to take your time in your build, do your research, & make sure that you are grounded when handling & installing all items of your build.

Cons: Absolutely none!

Other Thoughts: My Build:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: This is 3rd Biostar board I've used in my builds. All working great. 2 plus years. Nice layout and easy to put together. Manual easy to understand, good software. Doesn't support Nvida SLI, but I didn't care. Has HDMI on board, but I haven't tried yet.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: People have bad mouthed these boards, but I've had good luck and long time use.

1 out of 5 eggsbad motherboard, bad service

Pros: Looks good, has everything I need except SPDIF port.

Cons: Very angry. I got a bad motherboard, which made the system unstable and restart randomly. At first, I though that it was just incompatible with the memory, so I bought another set of memory. However, the problem still existed. Then, I requested RMA, which it the slowest RMA I ever had. It took me almost 3 weeks to receive another motherboard.
However, this is not over, and I got the exactly the same problem with new motherboard. At this time, I made a wrong decision to doubt CPU and power supply, and I RMA CPU, bought another power supply. After I tested my computer with brand new CPU and power supply, I was really angry. The problem still existed!! I got 2 motherboard with the problem!! What is the possibility? Or they might just give me the bad motherboard I sent to them.

Finally, I gave up, and bought a ASUS motherboard, and now it's working.

Wasted more than $200 and 2 months on replacement.

Other Thoughts: Receiving a bad motherboard is unfortunate, because nobody can make things perfect. However, the bad service is unacceptable.

Don't buy a motherboard from such a company with bad quality and service.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty decent board

Pros: Inexpensive (Got it for free, basically! Got a great deal at Fry's: $178 combo deal for a Phenom II x4 965 BE and this MB!). Nice SATA cables. The stock CPU fan is *not* noisy despite what some peeps say (you can adjust how aggressively the fan spins in the BIOS). Runs Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (beta 7100) stably. I'm not an OC'er, but the BIOS seems to offer a lot of customizability. Easy BIOS update from within Windows via BIOSTAR update utility. Pure AM3. Cute little system reset & system power-on buttons built onto the MB (why would you really need these?). Decent on-board video, so if you're not a mega-gamer, you won't really need to buy a vid card.

Cons: Thin PCB (not a big con). BIOS documentation weak (big con, in my book). Stock BIOS had "SYS TEMP", but upon upgrading to the latest BIOS version, "SYS TEMP" got removed :( For this board, I think SYS TEMP is the temp of the South(or North?)Bridge chip. This chip was SCREAMING hot to the touch upon first boot (71C). After Windows got installed & updated BIOS, this chip is now merely warm to the touch. A fat vid card in the primary PCIE slot looks like it will encroach upon the adjacent PCI slot. Hopefully, you have one or fewer PCI card needs. Multi-GPU vid cards are incompatible (I've read). Do your homework on this board before trying CrossFire. Can't seem to find in the BIOS where to switch between Ganged & UnGanged (dual channel & single channel) memory mode. I dont' like the sideways facing SATA heads. No E-SATA :(

Other Thoughts: Before you low-egg this MB, give it a chance & make sure the BIOS settings are correct (and don't ever use the drivers that come on the CD! Windows 7 will load its own!). One reviewer said his keyboard won't work. He didn't say if it was a PS/2 or a USB. If USB, then make sure USB keyboard support is enabled, etc. I was able to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (beta 7100) version with no problem. I don't know why people are having trouble with the RTM version (maybe their BOISes aren't configured correctly, AHCI, e.g.?). I was even using the "08-04-09" bios that came with the MB. I updated the BIOS with the Windows BIOS upgrade app to the "12-08-09" version with no problem.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy if your trying to install Win 7

Pros: I liked the SATA click connectors that came with the SATA cables. Lots of features but won't be able to use them unless I want to keep using Vista.

Cons: Would have been a great motherboard but I didn't know at the time the issues with the 790GX chipset drivers and Win 7. I was able to install Vista Ultimate on it and even tried the upgrade to Win 7 no avail. Even the compatibility check within Win 7 will state to remove the Catalyst drivers before trying to install.

Other Thoughts: I tried everything I could to install Win 7. It gets to a point and looks like it is going to work and then will reboot and you get the screen telling you that it shutdown unexpectedly. I'm waiting for an nVidia chipset motherboard from Newegg to replace this one.

Memory slots close to the CPU (as with most boards). Don't get a large cooler with fins that may extend into the RAM locations. The Patriot RAM that I bought have cooling fins that extend upward and into the cooler that I purchased. I couldn't use the first RAM slot A0 and had to use A1/B1 instead.

2 out of 5 eggsAdditional Comments that may help

Pros: Motherboard can load and run, Vista x64 Ultimate, 2008 Server SP2 Enterprise x64, 2008R2 Server Enterprise x64. I have been in IT support for over 25 years and I have an MSDN subscription

Cons: It will not load Windows 7 Ultimate x64, generates a service failled to start error and the install which is mostly complete fails. I will be returning the board and purchasing an M4A79T Deluxe

Other Thoughts: Great value if you don't plan to install WIndows 7
