1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Nice board, had everything i needed. Would have worked with that 1156 i3 i have on the shelf...

Cons: DOA. Would turn on, up unitl you shut it off. Then it wouldn't come on again for 10-15 minutes without the power attached.

Other Thoughts: Love Newegg and their RMA! refunded and got another board

4 out of 5 eggsComplication

Pros: Nice layout, nice color, work perfect for everything but one thing

Cons: to turn it on, I have to unplug it for 3-4 min and then replug and press the on switch, If I dont do it, the on/off switch have no effect ... gonna have to contact biostrar...

Manufacturer Response:

Your case sounds like may be power supply issue, are you able to try different power supply first or test power supply in another unit?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board!

Pros: Very easy to install.
Worked great right away

I was wary of getting a BIOSTAR board. I usually get Intel mb because I have had bad luck with the licensed boards by ASUS, MSI, etc but this Biostar is great! Didn't have to update firmware or anything to get it to work with my drives. Very powerful and tons of spots to plug things into. Very good board.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: works and is stable, onboard sound works just fine I couldnt be happier.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: paired with i3 550 N82E16819115065 and gskill ram N82E16820231311 as tested by Biostar, board booted up first try, I did not have a single problem with this setup. I also used a PNY 9800GTX+ and antec 500 earth watts I had lying around. Works great with world of warcraft

4 out of 5 eggsGreat mobo for good price

Pros: On-board power and reset buttons.
Debug lights.
Can be checked on your own with volt meter.
Built in auto OC provides slight boost.

Cons: When breadboarding my new rig, onboard VGA/HDMI did not work.
Doesnt have 2 PCI x16 for future upgrades :(
Front panel HD audio is in an inconvenient place (right under graphics card)

Other Thoughts: I had to overnight this motherboard after I fried my other with a rookie mistake.
Very easily set up and I have had zero problems after installation.
The auto OC provides easy boost for beginners. Max increase is ~.2 GHz.

The only reason this is not a 5 egg review is the onboard graphics.
I was breadboarding my parts to insure everything worked before inserting them into my case. I tried to use the VGA adapter and HDMI with no input signal to my monitor.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget board

Pros: Lots of features, good bang for the buck! Good OC capability. Room for future upgrades.. No problems, running Win7 x64 ultimate on both my builds. Works great without a GPU and a core i3 550 for a fast office PC or web browser.. maybe not gaming and multi-media with out a GPU..

Cons: None really for the price. Board locations are cramped, and could have potential problems depending on the case, and what else your installing.. Ran into issues with an oversize cpu coolers bracket on back side coming into contact with solder points (more of a cooler issue, had to exchange for a smaller one)

Other Thoughts: Bought one few months ago with an i5 650 processor, 8gigs GSKIL ram and EVGA 460 fermi. Great OC utility, pushed it just a little over and not a single problem yet (other than a little cramped inside, and the big 460 card covered half the SATA connections) Just did another budget build with an i3 550, no graphics card, same ram, and it really, for a cheap build, does pretty well. Its just an office PC but played media just fine with no GPU.. would recomend BIOSTAR to others!

Cons: NEW

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear, but hoped that you have contacted Biostar Tech support first before RMA, possible may just have missed something simple. 626-581-1055 menu 2 or email.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent small business board, a few I/O flaws

Pros: Excellent feature set for a mini board, includes serial and parallel ports for older peripherals. Full set of BIOS adjustments (I undervolt for reliability). Very forgiving on clocking settings and runs all of the DDR3 memories I throw at it. Runs very cool and has heatsinks for the power Mosfets. Pinouts for CPU and
two system fans, all with speed monitoring. Onboard SATA, Network, USB, Firewire, and Sound fully compatible with Windows 7 64 bit.

Cons: The PS/2 keyboard port cannot handle older "clicky" keyboards, causes a shutdown of the standby +5v system, system will not cold boot. Adding a USB converter rated for older keyboards fixed the problem. Setting the parallel port to EPP+ECP caused random powerdowns with older printers. RMA'ed the board, but the replacement had the same problem. Setting the parallel port to EPP fixed this.

Other Thoughts: This is an excellent choice for a small business system with older mice and
keyboards (but see Cons) and also handles full screen HD movies well.
Like all H55 boards, requires an i-3 or i-5 processor to use the board's graphics ports, and cannot run the memory faster than 1333 while doing so. (Intel's design compromise, not Biostar's). Cannot do RAID, again a H55 limitation. Fine for hi-def movies but only fair for 3D gaming. Maximum DVI output is 1920 x 1200 x 60hz, so not for super large screens.

5 out of 5 eggsHTPC Build

Pros: This is my first computer build, so I don't have a lot of experience. The manual was good and everything went together as expected. The system posted fine and runs nice and cool with the stock cooler on a i5 650 processor. The board runs great under windows and there are some utilities that come with the motherboard which give you the ability to overclock from a gui in windows, nice for a novice overclocker. It also has a utility to monitor temperature wattage and usage. I got Ubuntu and Mint to work but unfortunately have no sound, I think it is a problem with the realtek chipset not having a driver, Linux would load the HDA Intel driver which for some reason doesn't work. The HDMI and optical out work great under Windows 7and sound superb. I am using it as a HTPC, rocking quiet and cool, no need for a graphics card.

Cons: None

3 out of 5 eggsWorked great until...

Pros: Everything it is supposed to do it did well, streamed via HDMI to my TV with ease, which looks outstanding even on a 65" set. Easy to set up and change between IGP and discrete graphics until...

Cons: It just started acting weird one day, it would restart before posting, like a bad overclock, which would wipe out any changes I made via the bios. That was really, really annoying. Also, it started showing impossible CPU temps and it would leave the PSU fan on even though everything else had shut off. I couldn't even switch between IGP and discrete graphics anymore which was the primary reason behind buying the H55 mobo in the first place.

Other Thoughts: If not for the crazy issue causing the RMA, I would have kept the board because it has a nice layout with high quality components, but the fatal flaw was just too much to overlook.
