5 out of 5 eggsExcellent budget gaming board

Pros: Budget a bit tight? This is the perfect motherboard for throwing together a gaming system that just works, or for upgrading an older system. Installation and setup is easy and quick. The only tweak I made to the bios was to increase the DDR3 speed to 1333 (Mushkin). System is fast and extremely stable.

Cons: The power connector is in a odd location, requiring you to route your PSU cable over the top of your CPU cooler.

4 out of 5 eggsExactly What You'd Expect

Pros: Supports Dual-Channel RAM; Plenty of SATA and USB connections; Feature-rich for price; Compact design

Cons: Compact design

Other Thoughts: Perfectly designed for the typical home or office-work system, but I put this into a bargain gaming rig, and it has performed fine. This board is a WYSIWYG trade-off between functionality and value: Only two DIMM slots, but supports 4GB in each, and runs in Dual-Channel mode. Only two PCI slots, but lots of USB connectors. Only one IDE interface, but four SATA. Compact enough to provide plenty of room in any case, but components placed too close together for optimal access; Any mid to large sized expansion cards you use will likely block some of the on-board devices. Integrated video chipset good enough for mutli-media presentations, movies, even MMOs in low detail, but obviously you'll need to add a dedicated GPU card for any modern games in acceptable quality. Built-in Dolby sound, but very little signal output; Too quiet without sufficiently amplified speakers. Overall, general utilitarianism for the economically minded consumer.

5 out of 5 eggsBudget Build

Pros: Great little board for a budget build. Nvidia on board graphics... which may lack a little but its better than intel... although intel is getting better... but not at the budget of this board.

Cons: Some minor things like placement of the board stuff.. but other than that I've built two computers with this board and they are stellar boards... especially for the price

Other Thoughts: both builds had a 3ghz amd athlon II x4

they zip around for being so cheap...

3 out of 5 eggsOkay for a no-frills mobo

Pros: * Received for $15 extra in combo deal

* Flexible options for a Micro ATX mobo

* PCIe x16 slot

* Easy BIOS configuration

Cons: * Poor overclocking from BIOS

* No core unlocker feature

* Very limited number of USB ports and headers

* No on-board Firewire port or header

* Very limited SATA ports

* Very limited audio ports

* Confusing to configure from IDE to AHCI in BIOS

Other Thoughts: Aside from the obvious physical limitations of a micro ATX mobo, I actually like this BIOSTAR board. I used it in a build for my daughter and son-in-law, and they absolutely love it. I pretty much maxed out the available SATA ports and USB headers, but I was still able to build a decent system. In addition to the mobo, this is what I put into the build:

HEC MicroATX Mini Tower Case /w 585W PSU
2 x 2048 G-Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600 PC3 12800 (4GBRL)
Intel X-25M 120GB SATA SSD
Seagate Barracuda SATA 2TB HD (ST32000542AS)
Sapphire 1GB HD 5770 graphics card
EDIMAX USB Wireless nano adapter (dongle)
AMD Athlon II X3 455 Rana 3.3GHz CPU
ASUS DVD burner (ASUS DRW-24B1ST)
Rosewill Internal 74-in-1 USB card reader (RCR-IC002)
Windows 7 Ultimate OS

The only headache was downloading the AHCI driver to run the SSD as a boot drive. The BIOS did not provide an easy selection from IDE to AHCI. Flashing the mobo BIOS was quirky but not a problem. Bottom line: It's a decent no-frills, home-

5 out of 5 eggsBest price Motherboard

Pros: Price and stable

Cons: Unknown rebate process status

Other Thoughts: First time Biostar buyer, better the Foxconn for sure. I put it in my case and it boots right away without checking this and that

4 out of 5 eggsI got a N68S3+ mobo

Pros: Purchased the MCP6P3 board and received a N68S3+ board with a sticker on it saying it was the MCP6P3. There doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the two except the chipset. Luckily the sticker on the box said it was the MCP6P3 board so I could mail it in for the rebate. I got this board with the 4 GBs of Patriot memory deal (what a steal if the rebates pan out). The memory was detected as DDR3 1066 by default and just changed to 1333 in the bios at default voltage and it's running great. Nice plain cheap motherboard.

Cons: I knew that it was a basic board, so no cons.

Other Thoughts: Runs Windows 7 Pro 64 bit/ Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit wonderfully.

4 out of 5 eggsSuperb, but bad flash utility

Pros: This board has a very impressive feature set for its price point. DDR3 memory, a highly configurable BIOS, and the onboard chipset is pretty impressive too.

Cons: The BIOS flasher is scary unpredictable.

Other Thoughts: This board went right into an old mATX case, without a problem. At first I got no video and thought I was in for a bad stretch, but simply cycling the monitor rectified that for some reason.

The only problem I've had is in trying to update the BIOS via the Windows flasher. The BIOS download uses a different file extension than what's on the disk. And the utility itself fails to back up the existing BIOS version, and doesn't keep the user informed as to what it's doing. I finally just said the heck with it; it's not worth the risk. But that's a lousy way to do business. The flash process should be made as smooth as possible, precisely because it is so critical. I've had flashes via floppy that went far smoother than this. This is why I took one egg off. Thankfully, at this point at least the update is not critical to me. But at some point it may be. Then what?
