5 out of 5 eggsTerrible mother board

Pros: NONE!

Cons: Terrible motherboard. Had many issues with this mother board from BSOD to artifact shut downs to restarts to not being able to see anything on start up after finally testing all hardware deleting hard ware updating drivers and everything that can be done it has finally been determined that it was this biostar MB .... Never again will I buy a biostar ... Asus now has a new loyal customer. Glad I wasn't the only one to have spoke about this defective unit ;)

1 out of 5 eggscomplete garbage

Pros: Was cheap

Cons: Constantly has issues starting. It is as if it forgets that it has CMOS. Most times it doesn't even post. If it does post it has some sort of critical error and can't continue.

Other Thoughts: Want my money back but I'm afraid that will never happen. I thought I would stick with the board and hoped for a fix. Never happened. No updates from BioStar. Just claims that I shouldn't be having these types of problems.

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry to hear of your troubles, please don't hesitate to contact Biostar technical support for assistance

1 out of 5 eggsHorribly unstable board

Pros: Price, if that is actually a pro.

Cons: Unstable from day one. CPU, Memory, Video card, PSU have all been tested and are working fine. I built this system last year before I left town. I managed to get an RMA done within the warranty period. Then I got back home around Thanksgiving to put the new board in and try again. It still has the same issues as before. I've set everything manually to specs, no overclocking yet it still gives BSOD's with Power Management, irql_not_less_or_equal, unnamed modules, etc. It will crash and instantly power off, artifact and power off, sometimes attempts to restart and not make it through post. Also it acts like the CMOS is losing settings constantly. If you're looking for a stable board to build on this is not the one.

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry for your troubles, chances of two boards producing same problem is highly unlikely or there is some sort of incompatibility with one of your components or one of your other components is faulty. Recommend that you try different components starting with memory, cpu, power supply. If still fails, don't hesitate to contact support@biostar-usa.com to see if can help get to the bottom of your case.

1 out of 5 eggsWay Over Rated

Pros: The motherboard layout is decent. Everything fit without too much trouble.

Cons: This board has constant power issues. My friend and I both bought nearly identical parts to build a new pc about a year ago and we are both having identical issues with the board.

The board will not wake up from sleep about 25% of the time is you walk away from it. Also on occasion the screen will go totally blank and will not wake up even when you're in the middle of doing something. Lastly, it has a fair amount of BSOD's even at boot.

My best guess is that it is an issue with the pci-slots but after both of us trying to track down the issue with new poser supplies, and switching out every part - it still has the same issues.

The board has a lot of nice features but the quality of the manufacturing is at best questionable. For this reason it's getting 1 egg.

If Biostar had a better warranty I'd send it in but you have to pay for shipping and if they can't replicate the issue they charge you for it. So if you buy this and have the same issue - you might as well buy a ne

Other Thoughts: This review is for the Full atx format. (which isn't available on newegg anymore but this is essentially the same board with one less pci-slot)

Rest of the build:
OCZ 64GB SSD (master)
Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1.5TB HD (slave)
Nvidia 460 Fermi 1 GB DDR3
AMD Thubian 1100t
Corsair Dominator 16GB at 1600

1 out of 5 eggsGET A DIFFERENT BOARD!

Pros: When it works, it does the job.

Cons: Board has broken twice now. I first thought it was the hard drive, went to pull it to diagnose and the system started freezing at boot... it wasn't the hard drive. Diagnosed it down to the motherboard/ram/cpu. Ram tested fine in another machine and so did CPU. Mobo....

Called BIOStar, they had me send it back in, got a new mobo in a couple weeks. Not bad support...

Then several months later, some of the same issues started happening. Again diagnosed it down to the mobo. Called BIOStar again for another RMA... I talked to Tech support about possibly switching motherboards to something different. One was $15 CHEAPER than this board but better reviews, and tech support said they will "make a note" to the RMA department, but he doubted they would "approve this". I asked if I can speak to them, he said no. Can I speak to a manager about this? No.

My response was "ok, I guess BIOStar support really sucks, huh?"
"Yes... it does sir"

Spend your money on a different board, trust

2 out of 5 eggsWorked great at first....

Pros: Easy core unlock and good o/c tools, 4 ram slots, SATA III, nice color scheme, onboard video

Cons: Picked up this board on Black Friday a year ago. Board was great for a few months, then started having stability problems that I tracked down to the sadly inadequate northbridge heatsink. I pointed a fan at the heatsink and got a few more months out of it.

A month ago, it stopped POSTing and won't work with any memory I throw at it (gives memory code on LEDs). Hoping to get an RMA or some kind of clue what else to do with it.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Supports up to 16Gb of ram
Nice color scheme
Onboard video
Supports raid 0/1/5/10
Has a PS2 port

Cons: CHEAP heatsink on the Northbridge. (Can run at 55c+ if no direct airflow on the heatsink)
Only 1 PCI-E 2.0 slot (They could have fit 2 IMO)
This board overvolts the cpu by up to 0.1v when you start overclocking regardless of whether or not it needs the power.

Other Thoughts: The first thing to note about this board is that it is not designed nor is it marketed to the high end enthusiast or pc gamers. It is a budget board and a hell of a good one. It has a nice red and silver theme with a soft grey and black PCB. There are 4 DDR3 dual channel (1600mhz max) ram slots. This board also features onboard video (ATI Radeon HD 4290). 2 out of 5 eggsGood while it worked.

Pros: The motherboard has plenty of perks and some really cool features. The on board video is very good and the easy over clocking features were neat (but I never used them).

Cons: After a few months I began having very frequent BSOD and crashes and started trying to troubleshoot issues. I tried swapping memory, Updating BIOS, reinstalling Windows, and getting a new power supply. All of these offered temporary relief of the symptoms but they always return. Now 1 year in and if the PC is put under any sort of load it crashes immediately showing graphical artifacts on the screen. The PC doesn't turn off it stays on in an frozen state and won't restart until you do a hard reset. Then it takes a few minutes of being powered down before it will make it all the way through a boot.

It is very disappointing and having talked with Tech Support they seem very quick to dismiss my claims and tell me to retest everything.

Other Thoughts: This was my first Biostar purchase. I am not eager to repeat business with them.
