4 out of 5 eggsBiostar MB

Pros: This MB is an easy cheap step up or replacement for those not wanting to change their current overall configuration. Easy installation.

Cons: CD-ROM did not want to install drivers. Easy fix was to go to Biostar website and download/install updated drivers.

Other Thoughts: Old MB's BIOS died (thanks for all the non-help Gigabyte) and I didn't want to do complete upgrade.

1 out of 5 eggsBad socket design. Biostar fails.

Pros: This board was inexpensive and, due to its small form factor, was pretty easy to get into the case.

Cons: From power-on, something seemed wrong with this board with "jerky" performance. Nothing eating CPU, no errors. Gave up and requested an RMA. When disassembling, CPU came up WITH heatsink, even though ZIF socket was locked down. Poor socket connection with a 1.6gHz signal (hypertransport) over it will result in signal integrity problems and (from what I know of HT) a large number of retries (outside scope of OS, so no errors, just poor performance).

Other Thoughts: To me, this looks like not just a manufacturing defect, but a design defect. I would expect any board of this model to have very similar problems. Reducing the HT clock might help, but really, you shouldn't have to deal with such problems in the first place. Boo, Biostar, you fail. Newegg wins for their quick and easy refund system!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat 754 Board

Pros: Low price, it's been running rock solid since I installed it over 9 months ago.

Cons: 754 socket is a bit dated.

Other Thoughts: Good solid choice for a low cost basic build.

3 out of 5 eggsJunk, for lack of better understanding

Pros: Award Bios, options.

Cons: Worked great for a day, memtest86+ ran for 12 hours, no errors. Windows XP installed fine. Installed the first set of drivers, rebooted, all was good. Went to install the second set of drivers, system made a noise, rebooted, and never booted again. Can't even fresh install, even after manually resetting the CMOS. I can get to the bios settings, but that is it. Doesn't get past DMI Pool Table refresh.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for I guess. At first glance, I was impressed big time. Especially at the bios settings. But after installing the drivers (2nd option, driver CD), the board became unbootable, with no idea as to why.

Good 500 watt PSU also, so I'm sure that isn't it. Tested it's rails under 200 watt load, all nominal.

3 out of 5 eggsok, so what psu?

Pros: cheap, 754, agp

Cons: no cpu multiplier adjustment in bios

Other Thoughts: If you are going to post a review, especially a negative one, how about mentioning what power supply model you are using? Since most issues can be explained by a cheap or insufficient power supply, saying what you used (actual model, not just watts), might give someone an idea whether the mb is at fault or you are just too cheap to buy a decent power supply. By the way, the psu, not the mb, is the most important part of a computer.

4 out of 5 eggsBest Review of this board.

Pros: The Biostar NF325-A7 is an excellent choice for those on a budget looking to build a fast machine. The nVidia chipset is feature rich once its drivers are installed. In WinXP, you will find it includes some tweakability and monitoring not found on other chipsets at this pricepoint. Biostar's tech support is very accessible, and their website is top-notch. Downloads come easy unlike ASUS, for example. The board is easy to read, and fairly well laid out. Biostar also packaged some neat utilities that are always nice to have. The CD loads easily in WinXp and provides the ethernet, audio and chipset drivers that you will need for windows.

Cons: I tried several video cards with this motherboard and found that even with the latest bios (2.60), it was unable to recognize, or post with the HIS X1650 pro in either the 256mb or 512mb card. The 512mb 7600GS from Nvidia worked just fine. Biostar will be working on a bios update to fix this.

Other Thoughts: I used this board with a Athlon 64 3200+ cpu, Rosewill RCX-Z1 heatsink and fan, 80gb Sata Excelstor 3.0 drive which it recognized without changing it to SATA 1 spec, and 1gb DDR400 budget stick. Tombraider:Legend plays at 40FPS at 1280X1024 with next gen features off.

4 out of 5 eggsOldie but goody

Pros: Bought this as a cheap replacement for my Gigabyte Socket 754 board a month ago, and so far it's a solid performer.

Cons: Installing the NVIDIA drivers was a pain - every time I ran the Ethernet driver off the CD, my system would reboot without reason. It took the third time to install without problems.

Also, the fact it maxes out at 2 GB of RAM may give pause for hardcore gamers or users looking to upgrade to Vista using this board.

Lastly, while I appreciate the safety feature in its BIOS to automatically revert back to safe settings when conditions warrant, I would like to have an option to disable it. I am sure I could up my FSB a few MHz beyond 215 without concern.

Other Thoughts: A hardy board for the average user.
