2 out of 5 eggs2 Dead RAM slots and failure to read video card

Pros: It didn't die on me while I've had it.

Cons: It came time to upgrade my video card, so I went and bought a EVGA Gerforce GTX 660 SC to upgrade from my older 2009 model AMD card and to a pleasant surprise after following all the correct steps in replacing video cards, was hit with a truckload of POST codes and errors such as "AE" which I heard has something to do with boot order and not a video card so the code I got didn't make sense. So I gave up on the card after browsing forums upon forums to see what was up. Saw a few people run into the same exact problem and that this mobo "doesn't play nice with EVGA/ Nvidia cards." Gave that adventure up was upset to see the card actually worked in my friends PC (troubleshot the issue in every manner, power, connectors, drivers, BIOS settings, you name it!)........I then moved on to the RAM.....G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB x 4 sticks to at least upgrade my RAM which I already had 2 of them in there, added the 2 new RAM modules and boom POST code 55, browsed the issue and found that no one ever solved the mystery of POST code 55. Turned out my B RAM slots wouldn't read RAM in any configuration, if there was RAM in the B slots it was not going to boot. So it seems only half of my motherboard actually works so I went ahead and ordered a new one. I'm really disappointed in this board because it did not let me down at one time, it waited till I bought new parts then told me to screw off.

Other Thoughts: I've tried everything you can do to a motherboard that is not taking it out and soldering capacitors yourself on it. Its a no go, can not recommend it.

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry to hear of your troubles, highly recommend that you contact Biostar support for assistance. 626-581-1055 menu 2 or email
For memory related issue may be cause by
1. CPU socket pin damaged bent, check CPU socket
2. Some Gen 3.0 video cards will will not work with Sandy Bridge CPU, need a Ivy Bridge CPU for Gen 3.0 support
3. 55 post cost is related to memory error, can be memory, memory socket, cpu, or motherboard.

1 out of 5 eggsworked until it didnt

Pros: worked great (until it didn't)

Cons: Ethernet and USB began intermittently failing functionality after 10 months of use. I see other folks here have had similar issues so I'm not the one-off. I won't be trusting this manufacturer again.

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry to hear of your troubles, the ethernet and USB controllers are leading name brands such as Realtek for the LAN and USB is native from Intel. If these functions are not working properly, Biostar will take responsiblity to assist in repair. To start with RMA please fill RMA form to start warranty service.

2 out of 5 eggsLook somewhere else.

Pros: Good features, solid components, nice layout, cheap

Cons: Bios incomplete, useless manual, coil whine after a while, LAN port no longer working, slow RMA

The motherboard itself seems to have degraded over time badly.

Other Thoughts: The motherboard uses solid components, but overall, it's not that great. I guess it's because of the way they built the mobo or the circuitry

Some say this board is better than the Asrock Z77 Extreme4, I have no idea, but listen to me and look somewhere else.

I bought a Gigabyte motherboard (Z77X-UD3H after this one, because I knew the RMA would be slow and sold the board I got from the RMA.

Manufacturer Response:

Biostar RMA process averages 3 to 5 business days from date of receiving for processing. If urgent, keep track of RMA shipment and on day Biostar receives, contact or call 626-581-1055 menu 2 to inquire for same day service.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid board, great price

Pros: -Great price. I didn't order it from Newegg; but after the two rebates, it ended up being around $75.00 after shipping.
-Fully featured. Has 3 PCI-E slots. Last one is x4 bandwidth, but it can be used for a dedicated PhysX card or something. 7.1 audio, enough Sata ports, supports 2600mhz RAM, etc.
-Fully overclockable with Biostar's BIOS and software.

Cons: -Only two fan headers, and one is in an awkward location. The one on the bottom is almost in the middle of the board, so a lot of the times, your front intake fan will not reach it. I had to buy an extender/splitter.
-Can't suspend properly. Not sure if this is a BIOS issue or something, but attempting to wake my computer up from a suspended state resuts in a black screen, with the fans still running.

Other Thoughts: I used to have a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3, but after having boot loop issues, I got this motherboard instead. It is cheaper, and it has more features than my previous motherboard. Not being able to suspend is a bit annoying, but I haven't taken the time to really look into this issue.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Happy at all

Pros: good deal at the time

Cons: 6 month owner, now DEAD

Other Thoughts: I bought this motherboard back in Dec 2012. Seemed like a good deal at the time. Research reviews seemed positive. upgraded monitor and motherboard is toast. went to Biostar's website and they are referring me to Newegg to replace. Newegg's policy refers me back to Biostar. Nothing against Newegg, but not happy about this experience with Biostar at all. Now trying to decide to go with an RMA on this board , or try another manufacturer entirely. Either way , lost time and money. Again, NOT HAPPY

1 out of 5 eggsEhh

Pros: Wouldn't know, looks sexy

Cons: On the first boot it started in sleep mode and for a long while I couldn't figure out was wrong I took apart the computer and put it back together and eventually realized I had to reset the bios, so I had to reset it on the board because it wouldn't show up on the monitor and then it wouldn't boot windows 7 off my optical drive and when ever I turn it off I have to manually reset the bios to turn it back on.

Other Thoughts: Not sure what to do, don't think I can send it back now, third build

1 out of 5 eggsDies after 5 months

Pros: price point?

Cons: Died after one year of use. RMA process extremely slow, save your time and buy a nicer brand, even if it costs a bit more.

Other Thoughts: Out of a computer for over a week, very slow to fix the problem.

2 out of 5 eggsI thought highly of it for a while...

Pros: Decent, mid priced motherboard. Comes with all the connections you would want.

Cons: The PCI slots are poorly laid out. My hopes of one day SLIing two video cards will never be fulfilled with this MB.

I also thought the onboard audio would be adequate with this rig. However, there is a feedback that is causing a buzzing to come through any speakers or headphones I plug in. I've explored power source feedback, moving my graphics card to different slots, running with HD graphics.... But no luck. I don't think I'll be considering a biostar in the future.

2 out of 5 eggshmmm....

Pros: not good! I guess there is a price for everything. Lesson learn is you can't go cheap and expect things to be stable. I should of stuck with ROG boards.

Cons: It's been 2 months since i last posted here. For the last 2 weeks, this mobo is becoming more and more unstable. I had not OC yet, every setting is set at default only. Not only when gamimg, but when i browse the internet or watch streaming video. The mobo BSOD's, i get BSOD when playing games like SCII, the computer will actually crash with nothing running. I upped the Vcore voltage and still crashes, but not as often. The problem is with the added voltage, with same default clock speed. The idle temp was in mid to high 20's celsius. Currently, with added voltage; the idle temp is in high 30's. still BSOD when i play games like SC II. Basically, default setting will crash no matter how I set it.

Other Thoughts: My Win7 64 is up to date with SP1, the mobo bios is up to date. Tested the memory with Memtest 86 with no errors. With defaut settings, running Prime 95 will either BSOD or 1 or 2 worker stops working, usually at 2 to 5th round during the test. If I up the voltage, Prime95 is a bit more stable, runs a little longer but it will eventually crash/BSOD. At this point, no games i play is stable, I'm getting more BSOD. Extremly unstable and hard to work with. Very dissapointed, I hate dealing with RMA, and be even more disaptointed if i get another board with same issue. ON TOP of that, i have to pay for shipping. This really sucks!!!

2 out of 5 eggsBoard re-write.

Pros: A decent motherboard for the price. Comes with lots of pretty colors and hookups. Solid feel, and seems stable enough.

Cons: Well, this is my 2nd. Since August of 2012. I got this along with all my other parts for a decent gaming rig. Then suddenly, coil whine. Oh man, the coil whine. I've been having nothing but problems with the dang coil whine. So I got it RMA'd, and they said even though they can't hear it, they'll send me a new one. :/ Hm, okay. So I get the new one, and it fits as akwardly as ever, but still nice and snug. I reinstall all my other parts, [sans cooler, forgot my S524's rubber gaskets], and lo and behold, three weeks later [early march, late feburary] -> Coil whine! Again! Not as loud, for now, or as insistent, but MADDENING. Coil whine is probably the equivalent of nail on chalkboards for most people. I email Biostar back again about this, and they're asking me all these questions about overclocking and whatnot. I tell 'em I have the ram bumped up to 1866 instead of 1600, and that's it. No response. They have seemed to just begun to ignore me, and that's how it's going to be, I guess. They boast solid capacitors and all this high-quality material, but you're going to sit there and tell me it can't handle everything it says it's designed to? No.

Very unhappy with how this is going, and I don't want another replacement. This one proved that it's a solid feeling but overall poorly built board, and can't handle simple use and moderate gaming.

Other Thoughts: Coil whine... Ugh. I feel so let down as a customer and consumer. I'd gladly take another board over this one, at this point. I actually am considering duct-taping anything that's not a fan to shut this thing up.
