4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is a good motherboard for its price and fits everything I have currently in the computer

Cons: This motherboard became discontinued shortly after I got it. The bios set up wasn't the greatest for simple and easy overclocking compared to like and asus motherboard. I would like to add a second gtx650ti but I do not believe this motherboard will work for that. The space at the top was a little closer than I would like for adding fans or a radiator but I think thats more of a case issue. For an average gaming computer or just a basic computer this should fulfill your needs but I would not use this for a higher end gaming rig.

Other Thoughts: Another issue you may find is adding fans to your system with this board but there are many ways around just plugging them into the motherboard

5 out of 5 eggsGood Board

Pros: Good board, great for the price. Does the job that is needed on a budget. Great for the PCIe 3.0 x16 and PCIe 2.0, and 32 gigs of ram for the max. Does the job for gaming indeed.

Cons: Of course with Boards this size, pci slots become a problem.

5 out of 5 eggsGood inexpensive Linux board

Pros: Works out-of-the-box with Linux.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: I used this board with an Ivy Bridge I3-3225 CPU to build an inexpensive, general purpose PC. Debian-based Linux installation from a thumb drive went without a hitch. No proprietary drivers were needed. This hardware has been rock solid and performs perfectly for my application.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat motherboard for htpc

Pros: stable once flashed to latest BIOS, quick boot time, good layout, easy to set up

Cons: No SPDIF on this board

Other Thoughts: I've been using this as my HTPC which is on nearly 24/7 w/ windows 7 and ceton infinitv tuner to record shows. i've recently added a Radeon HD7770 to the board as well. It's been rock solid stable as a movie watching/DVR and light gaming machine.

5 out of 5 eggsA Great Board with What's needed

Pros: Great quality basic motherboard. Nothing real fancy but also well built. It has pretty much everything anyone would need for a good mainstream PC build. UEFI bios Windows 8 ready.

Cons: The bios is UEFI for Windows 8 but can be a little complex. If you know the basic settings of a motherboard bios it shouldn't be a problem though. You don't have to make any adjustments to things that you don't understand. UEFI bootup can be enabled in the bios for Windows 8.

Other Thoughts: I got it from somewhere else but noticed Newegg runs sales for it too. I'm using it with a Sandy Bridge i7 2600S and Hynix ram an EVGA 650ti, Creative SoundBlaster Recon, Zalman heatsink fan, Antec P280 case (which is pretty big for such a small motherboard but works great), older Antec Earthwatts 500 (made by Seasonic) power supply.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small. MOSTLY worked, Cheap

Cons: Day one out of the box it wouldn't connect consistently with my graphics card, once out of every 10 power cycles it would boot to the graphics card, other wise it would display only out of the onboard graphics.

Other Thoughts: Will not buy another BIOSTAR product for the rest of my life. I replaced it with a Z77 Full ATX Biostar board, and that had to RMA'd after 20 days.

4 out of 5 eggsOk board for replacement

Pros: Nice fan controllers, for SYSFAN and CPUFAN. It calibrates to your fans.
Comes with nice driver and software utility, auto detects your SO and selects what you need.
A lot of utilities wich i didnt installed none.
HDMI and DVI ports.
Serial port (i am electronic engineer) so i can use it in some experiments, as well as parallel port.
USB 3.0 (i havent used it).
Small.

Cons: Complex BIOS, theres no manual.
Sometimes it takes some time to get into POST.
Short, it was shorter than the board i was replacing so the RAM sockets and other connectors end is just hanging with no screws, it takes 6 instead of 8. This is 9.6*8.66, old one was 9.6*9.6.
'Default' bios options comes with no AHCI enabled or virtualization.
Fans start at full blast at power up.
Cheap IO plate.
Audio header quite far from the edge so if your front cables are short it wont get there.
Power led always on (?)
Not a lot of info on front panel header. (no 'm' connector)

Other Thoughts: I got it pretty cheap at 70 bucks with free shipping, for replacement of a dead OEM board, came quick in the mail.
Included SATA cables arent orange, they are black (i dont really care) but be aware if you buy it for looks. But they do are right angle on one end and clip ones.
Have read on other reviews that pcie connector is too close to ram so with big gpus may be a problem (i am using integrated graphics as it is not a gaming sistem)

3 out of 5 eggsDecent budget H77 board

Pros: Small (about an inch shorter than my old uATX board) and easy to install.

Decent layout, although audio header is at the back of the board.

UEFI, lots of options to choose from in the BIOS setup.

Cons: No manual to explain those BIOS choices. The manual only has hardware install instructions.

Very slow to POST. Takes 30-45 seconds with only POST screen showing before starting to boot. With an Ivy Bridge and an SSD I was not expecting this.

1 out of 5 eggsRebate scam

Pros: Easy set up, works as described

Cons: Biostar rebate system is a complete scam.

Other Thoughts: The last 2 black fridays I purchased a biostar board. Both had rebates. Never received it on the 2011 board and still have heard nothing back from the 2012 one. At the same time I have had no issues with other manufacturers. The rebate support numbers are a joke. I will never purchase another Biostar product due to this.

Manufacturer Response:
