The BIOSTAR TA970 motherboard is a great choice for those wanting to build a powerful yet budget-friendly AM3+ processor based system. It's powered by AMD 970 Chipset, and supports Socket AM3+ AMD FX/ Phenom II/ Athlon II processor. The latest USB 3.0 and SATA III allow you to transfer and retrieve data at blistering speed. With CrossFire X, you can scale the graphics performance by incorporating two VGA cards into a single system.

Performance is just part of the story. The Blu-ray audio redefines your listening experience on a PC. This board is designed to be a tough guy, with moisture-proof PCB, ESD Protection and OC / OV / OH Protection circuit. Five-phase power design and 100% solid caps take stability and overclocking potential to the next level. An array of user-friendly software is provided, to streamline and optimize your everyday use.

  • newegg Blu-ray Audio Upgrading your Audio performance in the easiest way is choosing BIOSTAR ultimate Motherboard. It does support Blu-ray audio DRM (compatible driver/software) and provide the higher audio output of 24 bit/ 192KHz than the 16 bit/ 48KHz from the normal MB. You will experience the high quality sound effect with pure Blu-Ray Audio.
  • newegg Moisture-proof PCB With the popularity of PC usage and working environment has getting deteriorating and moist (such as rural, coastal). The PCB will be oxidizing easily by damp or absorbed moisture. And then ionic migration or CAF(Conductive Anodic Filament) will be generated. Moisture-proof PCB meets high density and high reliability requirements for moisture proofing.
  • newegg Five Phase Power Phase Design Five-phase VRM design with high quality power components such as low RDS (on) Mosfet for lower temperature has the advantage to raise the overclocking ability.
  • newegg 100% Solid Caps With armor-plated BIOSTAR Technology, all capacitors are placed with 100% solid capacitors that have a lasting life cycle, durability and stability for crucial components.
  • newegg ESD Protection ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) is the major factor to destroy PC by electrical overstress(EOS) condition. ESD occurred when PC users touch any devices connected to PC, which may result in damage to motherboard or parts. ESD protection is designed to protect the motherboard and equipment from damage by EOS.
  • newegg OC / OV / OH Protection All BIOSTAR special circuit design detects overvoltage conditions and prevents voltage surges from spreading in real time. It also actively cuts off the overvoltage supply to protect your system. Over current protection protects motherboard from damage when overclocking or an unusual current import. Over heat protection protects motherboard & CPU from burning when exceeding the temperature limitation.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Board

Pros: * Price value to performance, this board is rock solid. I have two of them. One was purchased over a yr. ago and the other was recently for my daughters PC. You cant touch the versatility and accommodations of the many CPU that it supports. Rock solid performance with AMD FX8310 in both builds. Have had no issues with those things mentioned by others here. Some these reviews leads me to believe that many folks don't have the basic understanding of building a simple pc. Updating bios went flawless in both builds.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Probably a good idea to have someone, who knows what they are doing, build your PC for you.

5 out of 5 eggsA Budget Board That Just Works

Pros: Budget board that just works. I'm using my old AM3 AMD Athlon II X4 (Propus) and will be upgrading to an AM3+ AMD FX (Vishera, etc.) in the future.

No on-board video. If you're going to be using a discrete GPU anyway, why waste circuitry and silicon on an on-board GPU?

I like that the UEFI setup looks a lot the BIOS setups of old. K.I.S.S.

I come from the Pittsburgh area, so the black-and-yellow scheme is appreciated.

Cons: No USB3.0 headers.

Gotta find and SPDIF PCI bracket.

Some people probably prefer gaudy UEFI setups.

Other Thoughts: Newegg reviews are becoming over-run with clueless power users. While I can't attest to 125W CPUs, and DOA and duds are to expected, I experienced no problems with this board whatsoever. From the reviews I expected a better-than-50% chance that I'd have to return this board. Instead, this was my first setup where everything went right on the first try.

2 out of 5 eggsNot good over a year

Pros: It was cheap and came with a bundle. In the beginning it worked well.

Cons: The Bios was difficult to update and would not reboot because it had issues recognizing the SSD. I had to completely power down for it to boot again. Also, about a month ago it started locking up my computer and forced a reboot with no events in the operating system.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. Spend the extra money now and you won't be buying another MB in a year.

3 out of 5 eggsOk but not Good

Pros: Very affordable
Manual is easy to understand
Bios wasn't hard to update

Cons: The 24pin connector is a vary tight fit
No USB 3.0 I.O connectors
Bios is very basic
The Rear I.O shield has more to be desired

Other Thoughts: If you are looking to build a budget PC this is a good reliable motherboard with some cons but will still get the job done. I personally would not buy this motherboard again and would spend an extra $40 for something a little better. (If you add this on PC parts picker with an AMD FX CPU it will say *this motherboard bios may not be compatable with this CPU that is for the only version and almost all AMD AM3+ CPUs will work (FX-6300)

Pros: Sturdy and nice-looking. All basic needs for an AMD gaming PC

Cons: Can't really overclock with it, so don't buy it with that in mind.

5 out of 5 eggsNow that we've had this board for a while...

Pros: Please see my initial 8/28/24 review.

Now that we've had this board for a few months now, I just wanted to let everyone know that we've had no issues with it.

It's working great!.

Cons: Just that there is no USB 3 header, but that was fixed by purchasing a Vantek USB add on card.

Other Thoughts: The board runs real well.

5 out of 5 eggspretty solid

Pros: -runs stable with 8310 @ 4ghz stock voltage
-sata 6gb/s
-good oc options as long as you can handle manual oc and don't expect oc genie software to do it for you
usb 3.0

Cons: -my only con is Northbridge gets a little hot 80C with prime 95 before any oc. Replaced with copper silent + little blue led fan now not over 65C with oc
-doesn't have front usb 3.0 but I knew that going in (its a cheaper budget board)

Other Thoughts: the complaints on here are a little invalid (no onboard video, no oc options etc.) its a budget board I got it two years back on sale for $69.99 no regrets. cheaper than any other 970 board.
