The BIOSTAR TA970 motherboard is a great choice for those wanting to build a powerful yet budget-friendly AM3+ processor based system. It's powered by AMD 970 Chipset, and supports Socket AM3+ AMD FX/ Phenom II/ Athlon II processor. The latest USB 3.0 and SATA III allow you to transfer and retrieve data at blistering speed. With CrossFire X, you can scale the graphics performance by incorporating two VGA cards into a single system.

Performance is just part of the story. The Blu-ray audio redefines your listening experience on a PC. This board is designed to be a tough guy, with moisture-proof PCB, ESD Protection and OC / OV / OH Protection circuit. Five-phase power design and 100% solid caps take stability and overclocking potential to the next level. An array of user-friendly software is provided, to streamline and optimize your everyday use.

  • newegg Blu-ray Audio Upgrading your Audio performance in the easiest way is choosing BIOSTAR ultimate Motherboard. It does support Blu-ray audio DRM (compatible driver/software) and provide the higher audio output of 24 bit/ 192KHz than the 16 bit/ 48KHz from the normal MB. You will experience the high quality sound effect with pure Blu-Ray Audio.
  • newegg Moisture-proof PCB With the popularity of PC usage and working environment has getting deteriorating and moist (such as rural, coastal). The PCB will be oxidizing easily by damp or absorbed moisture. And then ionic migration or CAF(Conductive Anodic Filament) will be generated. Moisture-proof PCB meets high density and high reliability requirements for moisture proofing.
  • newegg Five Phase Power Phase Design Five-phase VRM design with high quality power components such as low RDS (on) Mosfet for lower temperature has the advantage to raise the overclocking ability.
  • newegg 100% Solid Caps With armor-plated BIOSTAR Technology, all capacitors are placed with 100% solid capacitors that have a lasting life cycle, durability and stability for crucial components.
  • newegg ESD Protection ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) is the major factor to destroy PC by electrical overstress(EOS) condition. ESD occurred when PC users touch any devices connected to PC, which may result in damage to motherboard or parts. ESD protection is designed to protect the motherboard and equipment from damage by EOS.
  • newegg OC / OV / OH Protection All BIOSTAR special circuit design detects overvoltage conditions and prevents voltage surges from spreading in real time. It also actively cuts off the overvoltage supply to protect your system. Over current protection protects motherboard from damage when overclocking or an unusual current import. Over heat protection protects motherboard & CPU from burning when exceeding the temperature limitation.

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely horrible

Pros: At first it ran really well, no problems what so ever.

Cons: When I decided to put a more powerful CPU in, it would no longer let me load in the BIOS setup or beeb when it boots up. I contacted BioStar to see if they could give me any suggestions. Their customer service was horrible and extremely unprofessional. they told me I should send in a RMA so they could "fix" it. I got it back almost 2 weeks later and it finally was able to enter the BIOS setup, but it still didn't beep when it booted. Just today all 6 SATA ports died! so now I'm out a computer for a while

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry to hear a problem has happened after the first RMA service. Generally if a problem happens and cannot be solved over phone or emails, then it's standard procedure to send item to Biostar to have the issue resolved. But your case if this is second RMA issue, please contact gerry@biostar-usa.com for direct support.

5 out of 5 eggsDespite mixed review, I like this little board

Pros: Stable, easy to use interface, Windows 7/8/10 drivers available at the Biostar website.

Cons: Limited overclock interface, but this board is not sold as an enthusiast board. That said, this board's auto settings voltages for DDR and CPU are entirely too aggressive. My FX-8150 was running hot for no apparent reason, I had to manually set the voltages. For the RAM, you cannot set the volts by number; you can subtract in stages from the auto. Backing down the voltages brought the system temps down and will extend the life of the system.

Spacing is NOT ideal for tall monster graphics cards like the AMD R9. Since PCI Cards are the legacy tech, why not locate those ports where PCI-Express slots usually are? This way, the mega GPUs don't block useful ports!

Other Thoughts: I got this board as part of a package deal at the Egg, but is has been really sure footed. I was intending to upgrade, but instead I will move the board, chip and cooler over to a new box and use it for my secondary comp/file server. It is simply too stable and smooth to be worth messing with.

I've been hit and miss with Biostar in the past, but I like this board for what it is, and at the price it's great for non-benchmarking builds. Whatever your level of expertise, you will need to go into BIOS and tune a few things by hand in order to get the most efficiency out of it.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Board, Great Price

Pros: Anyone that says this board is only for watching youtube is crazy. I game with this board and have zero problems. I have a giant steam library and have had no issues playing anything...Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Tera etc. Very easy to setup and run. Plus the board looks great as I blacked out all the components inside my custom budget build. Good board for a great price.

Cons: The only con is no usb 3.0 for front panel (minor con).

5 out of 5 eggsAs Usual Biostar Quality +++

Pros: Works out of the box NO problems very stable
Price is extremely affordable for ATX
ATX= Stable/Solid if Stock (as recommended)
Runs cool, my two boards heatsinks are warm to the touch NOT hot as other have said (I run stock)
AMD Mboard always a +

Cons: Biostar is not making Gaming boards it seems :(
can be a budget build (ATX should be a gaming board)
May not want to OC this board as its not gaming which again is unusual for ATX

Other Thoughts: I can always recommend Biostar I have been using nothing but them,
However, Biostar seems to be slowing down and ding budget boards mostly now, with the lack of ATX boards and gaming boards.
I've used these boards in numerous customer builds and two of my systems are running them, and I've had no serious problems with them yet.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the kind feedback. Biostar will launch 2 new series beginning of this year, Racing series (more focused on aesthetics with RGD LED's), however will still focus on best bang for the buck, and Pro series focused on professional grade components for that added quality.

1 out of 5 eggsD.O.A

Pros: cheep, if it works on arrival, the product dose what it claims to, To a degree, dose support crossfire BUT!!!! if you plain on using crossfire be warned, when i went to hook up both cards there was only 1/8 of a inch clearance between the cards. way to tight very hard time setting cards all the way in couldn't hit tabs either.

Cons: in my opinion Strictly a YouTube watching mobo only.
D.O.A seems like a lot of people have been getting D.O.A arrivals lately! i for one would not take the chance! praying return mobo works, heard people getting multiple dead's.
if you need a cheep mobo, i would highly recommend another brand, at least tell they figure out better product control or whatever seems to be there current issue!

Other Thoughts: For Reference only "Cards used were 2 sapphire dual-x 280 boosts" bought it for my wife's computer, cards were just a hand down, didn't buy this for that purpose. don't waste your money if that is your purpose. in my opinion!.

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Few commons issues that may cause no post that some users may not be aware of.
1. Memory configuration, if using a FX cpu, you must have at least one memory install in the second memory slot closest to she CPU slot. Otherwise no post.
2. 4 pin stand alone 12 volt CPU power connector, please double check to make sure this is attached, sometimes this is missed.
3. You mention lots of DOA, please note that our sales volume of this model is very high, one of our top selling AMD platform models on Newegg.com, and continues to be a top seller. All Biostar motherboards prior to shipping from our factory is QC checked, not random testing. What happens afterwards of why the product turned DOA can be caused by any numbers of reasons from shipment to user error. In the motherboard business, there is no manufacturer immune from DOA, We apologize for this inconvenience if this has happened to you and hope that you are able to obtain replacement. Should the replacement work as intended for you, we hope that you enjoy it as well. Have a Happy New Year!

1 out of 5 eggsVery Basic

Pros: It posts windows 7 and 10

Cons: It barely works. Will not allow 6300 to even run at advertised speeds.

Other Thoughts: Monkeyed around with overclock setting for days. Could not get the 6300 stable past 4.0 ghz and when I ran it in stock turbo setup it never past 3.8ghz when under full load. Anything past 4.0 ghz it would drop down to a handicapped 1400mhz (No voltage settings would make a difference and all power saving options turned off). Gave up and settled at 4Ghz.

Manufacturer Response:

Overclocking capabilities vary by parts used, some CPU's even though same model can overclock better then the other. Also depends on the combination used along with other components such as cooling solutions and memory. We may suggest this youtube video as a guide to see if can assist with your case. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEj8miRM8po

Please note: As a manufacturer we do not recommend any overclocking as overclocking can cause component failure. However we are aware users do enjoy overclocking so there are options in bios for such overclocking features which users can set at their own risks.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: literally none

Cons: everything

Other Thoughts: running the AMD fx 8350 125W so I know its supported and for good measure I swapped out the CPU for an FX 6300 just to be sure it wasnt a bad processor. Computer turns on but no video and no beeps. I also swapped out the video card (GTX 960) with a a gtx 550 so I know its not the card. Grounding issue? Not a chance I had it floating in mid air ( almost literally) and still nothing, Power issue? no all lines are secure and there is power going to the card because the fan spins but the fan is run by the power supply so what a shocker there. Also who the hell uses a 4 pin connection on a motherboard these days, I really have to read the specs more closely. After 4 builds in the past year this is the first one to give me a serious problem. I usually use gigabyte or MSI and I switch just one time and biostar sucks. Well it would suck if it actually worked properly. I can't even seem to return it for some reason, might as well use it as a Frisbee. Thanks for nothing Biostar...jerks

3 out of 5 eggsWorked well... until it didnt

Pros: bought this MB for my pc build 3-14 and everything went together great pc ran smooth with little to no issues for about a year and half.

Cons: About 6 months ago this MB started to flake on me. would not save boot sequence made me pick where to boot from every time I restarted it. About a 2 weeks ago I hit the button to power up my PC and... nothing. power comes on but I get no boot beep nothing just dead. I have tested all other parts with my other PC and its Def the MB. great while it lasted for the price but didn't even make it 2 years.

Other Thoughts: no

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry to hear of your troubles, the item has 3 years warranty, please fill online RMA form to start Biostar warranty process.

3 out of 5 eggsBasic motherboard

Pros: Does what it says it does, works perfectly

Cons: Don't buy this motherboard if you want to OC at all. My FX-6300 couldn't even hit it's maximum turbo speeds on this motherboard, the fastest it would go is 3.85ghz.

Manufacturer Response:

There are many different variables when overclocking is involved, from motherboard, to CPU, to memory, and cooling, and bios settings. May want to check this youtube video as a guide to see if can help your case. A user achieving 4+ Ghz on a similar CPU/platform. https://youtu.be/UEnyzFdbBdk
