The BIOSTAR TA970 motherboard is a great choice for those wanting to build a powerful yet budget-friendly AM3+ processor based system. It's powered by AMD 970 Chipset, and supports Socket AM3+ AMD FX/ Phenom II/ Athlon II processor. The latest USB 3.0 and SATA III allow you to transfer and retrieve data at blistering speed. With CrossFire X, you can scale the graphics performance by incorporating two VGA cards into a single system.

Performance is just part of the story. The Blu-ray audio redefines your listening experience on a PC. This board is designed to be a tough guy, with moisture-proof PCB, ESD Protection and OC / OV / OH Protection circuit. Five-phase power design and 100% solid caps take stability and overclocking potential to the next level. An array of user-friendly software is provided, to streamline and optimize your everyday use.

  • newegg Blu-ray Audio Upgrading your Audio performance in the easiest way is choosing BIOSTAR ultimate Motherboard. It does support Blu-ray audio DRM (compatible driver/software) and provide the higher audio output of 24 bit/ 192KHz than the 16 bit/ 48KHz from the normal MB. You will experience the high quality sound effect with pure Blu-Ray Audio.
  • newegg Moisture-proof PCB With the popularity of PC usage and working environment has getting deteriorating and moist (such as rural, coastal). The PCB will be oxidizing easily by damp or absorbed moisture. And then ionic migration or CAF(Conductive Anodic Filament) will be generated. Moisture-proof PCB meets high density and high reliability requirements for moisture proofing.
  • newegg Five Phase Power Phase Design Five-phase VRM design with high quality power components such as low RDS (on) Mosfet for lower temperature has the advantage to raise the overclocking ability.
  • newegg 100% Solid Caps With armor-plated BIOSTAR Technology, all capacitors are placed with 100% solid capacitors that have a lasting life cycle, durability and stability for crucial components.
  • newegg ESD Protection ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) is the major factor to destroy PC by electrical overstress(EOS) condition. ESD occurred when PC users touch any devices connected to PC, which may result in damage to motherboard or parts. ESD protection is designed to protect the motherboard and equipment from damage by EOS.
  • newegg OC / OV / OH Protection All BIOSTAR special circuit design detects overvoltage conditions and prevents voltage surges from spreading in real time. It also actively cuts off the overvoltage supply to protect your system. Over current protection protects motherboard from damage when overclocking or an unusual current import. Over heat protection protects motherboard & CPU from burning when exceeding the temperature limitation.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Everything worked just as advertised and you can't really get a better price for a board like this.
Use a amd 8350 with a gtx 760 and 12gb ram.

Cons: Hasn't failed me yet after 6 months so far.

Other Thoughts: I saw many other reviews on here of people saying its DOA.
With this motherboard you have to place and screw into stands wherever there is a white circle around the screw hole, otherwise it will not boot.
I had to drill a hole in my case to place a stand for it to work.

I with they would mention this in the user manual because I bet you a lot of the negative reviews are due to the lack of stands+screws they used.

So before you claim it's DOA try this first.

4 out of 5 eggsNot an ATX board For the most part

Pros: Works like a champ and runs my FX-6300 OC at 4.5ghz no problem.

Cons: Went to install it in my ATX case and some of the screw holes matched up and others didn't. For my case some screws had to go into the ATX holes and others had to go into flex ATX holes. It is weird but nothing bad.

Other Thoughts: It's a great board nothing wrong with it besides the screw holes not matching the stated ATX form factor.

1 out of 5 eggsSimple design can go too far

Pros: Spartan specs on paper, nothing fancy. Affordable.

Cons: Had doubts after about a day, the machine would start up slowly. I mean like close to 2-2.5 minutes. Performance grew progressively worse until on day two even complete battery reset could not get the thing to POST.

Other Thoughts: First time Biostar user, and last unfortunately. Stick to the more reliable brands from now on.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks perfectly with no hassle

Pros: Biostar's motherboards may not be the fanciest boards in the world, but I have always found them to be solid and reliable. They just work for me.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: Always an uneventful build with Biostar when I'm assembling a system. That's just the way I like it.

5 out of 5 eggsCalling this a "budget" motherboard is selling it short.

Pros: This thing is great. The PCB is thick and heavy, the headers are in all the right places, the screw holes are effective at preventing flex, the clip CPU mount is much easier to deal with than most AMD clip type mounts. It works perfectly from the start, has XMP profiles (a rarity on less expensive AMD boards) and looks great, for those who have case windows. There are at least 3 USB headers, not like you're going to need that many. I have had two of these, one was an earlier revision. The current revision is more durable feeling physically than the last. This also has one of the nicest BIOS I have seen on any board. It seems to be able to tell whether or not you're booting something that supports/needs UEFI and selects the right support automatically. The interface is text only, but very efficient and has an immense amount of options for overclockers and tweakers. Biostar hasn't failed me once.

Cons: No USB3 front headers, but you can get an adapter for that. Only two USB3 ports in back, but this isn't a huge deal from my perspective since there is only a small number of devices that would benefit greatly. (External SSD, USB flash drive, USB network devices). Of course, your mileage may vary, but I barely feel right listing it as a con.

Other Thoughts: Biostar makes cheap boards, and this turns a lot of people off I think. I have used them a lot, and they are the only manufacturer that has consistently pleased me. Food for thought.

4 out of 5 eggsTo be honest

Pros: This board is extremely reliable, its good quality it's never faulted on me. I have numerous friends with Biostar motherboards they all love their boards as well. Good build quality for a extremely well priced board, hard to beat.

Cons: No usb 3.0 header. Do not buy this board expecting to use your usb 3.0's from your case because it does not have a usb 3.0 header. So just be careful before buying.

2 out of 5 eggsCMOS fail

Pros: Other than the major issues it has, it does serve the purpose of a motherboard.

Cons: On very first boot, got a CMOS fail. Boot up times are obnoxious. USB devices randomly restart every few minutes. It's pretty awful.

Other Thoughts: Probably just got a bad board, but there seem to be a lot of people who did, so I'm just going to try a different brand, I guess.

1 out of 5 eggsTotal Headache....

Pros: - Cheap

Cons: - Cheap

Other Thoughts: This motherboard has been a headache for me since november, it took me this long to figure out there was a default setting on the motherboard that was over clocking my CPU by 0.1 MHZ and causing instability and freezing. Who knows how much this has compromised the rest of my system. Do yourself a favor and buy another board.
