The BIOSTAR TA970 motherboard is a great choice for those wanting to build a powerful yet budget-friendly AM3+ processor based system. It's powered by AMD 970 Chipset, and supports Socket AM3+ AMD FX/ Phenom II/ Athlon II processor. The latest USB 3.0 and SATA III allow you to transfer and retrieve data at blistering speed. With CrossFire X, you can scale the graphics performance by incorporating two VGA cards into a single system.

Performance is just part of the story. The Blu-ray audio redefines your listening experience on a PC. This board is designed to be a tough guy, with moisture-proof PCB, ESD Protection and OC / OV / OH Protection circuit. Five-phase power design and 100% solid caps take stability and overclocking potential to the next level. An array of user-friendly software is provided, to streamline and optimize your everyday use.

  • newegg Blu-ray Audio Upgrading your Audio performance in the easiest way is choosing BIOSTAR ultimate Motherboard. It does support Blu-ray audio DRM (compatible driver/software) and provide the higher audio output of 24 bit/ 192KHz than the 16 bit/ 48KHz from the normal MB. You will experience the high quality sound effect with pure Blu-Ray Audio.
  • newegg Moisture-proof PCB With the popularity of PC usage and working environment has getting deteriorating and moist (such as rural, coastal). The PCB will be oxidizing easily by damp or absorbed moisture. And then ionic migration or CAF(Conductive Anodic Filament) will be generated. Moisture-proof PCB meets high density and high reliability requirements for moisture proofing.
  • newegg Five Phase Power Phase Design Five-phase VRM design with high quality power components such as low RDS (on) Mosfet for lower temperature has the advantage to raise the overclocking ability.
  • newegg 100% Solid Caps With armor-plated BIOSTAR Technology, all capacitors are placed with 100% solid capacitors that have a lasting life cycle, durability and stability for crucial components.
  • newegg ESD Protection ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) is the major factor to destroy PC by electrical overstress(EOS) condition. ESD occurred when PC users touch any devices connected to PC, which may result in damage to motherboard or parts. ESD protection is designed to protect the motherboard and equipment from damage by EOS.
  • newegg OC / OV / OH Protection All BIOSTAR special circuit design detects overvoltage conditions and prevents voltage surges from spreading in real time. It also actively cuts off the overvoltage supply to protect your system. Over current protection protects motherboard from damage when overclocking or an unusual current import. Over heat protection protects motherboard & CPU from burning when exceeding the temperature limitation.

5 out of 5 eggsNow that we've had this board for a while...

Pros: Please see my initial 8/28/24 review.

Now that we've had this board for a few months now, I just wanted to let everyone know that we've had no issues with it.

It's working great!.

Cons: Just that there is no USB 3 header, but that was fixed by purchasing a Vantek USB add on card.

Other Thoughts: The board runs real well.

5 out of 5 eggspretty solid

Pros: -runs stable with 8310 @ 4ghz stock voltage
-sata 6gb/s
-good oc options as long as you can handle manual oc and don't expect oc genie software to do it for you
usb 3.0

Cons: -my only con is Northbridge gets a little hot 80C with prime 95 before any oc. Replaced with copper silent + little blue led fan now not over 65C with oc
-doesn't have front usb 3.0 but I knew that going in (its a cheaper budget board)

Other Thoughts: the complaints on here are a little invalid (no onboard video, no oc options etc.) its a budget board I got it two years back on sale for $69.99 no regrets. cheaper than any other 970 board.

5 out of 5 eggsA Real Winner

Pros: Custom boot BIOS is awesome if you want to use a custom image. Solid construction, 4 RAM slots, and handles my FX-8320 beautifully.

Cons: Only has two or three beep codes when it goes down. It took me a while to figure out that my RAM was badly configured on my BIOS the first time it happened, so no clear indicators.

Other Thoughts: I got this back when they had the red/black color scheme and after almost a year, this motherboard is still going strong and shows no signs of slowing down. This is great for a beginner build.

2 out of 5 eggsIts not great...

Pros: Well I got this MB in a sale deal thing to build my own computer. I overpaid a little but learned a lot in the process. This is one of those learning moments.

Pros: It works alright for a low power setup. If all you want to do is browse the reddit its perfectly acceptable.

Cons: There is no video output on the board itself. My computer was down for 2 and a half months when the graphics card went out. Thats another thing. The board doesnt tell you what goes out. It doesnt even post when the graphics card goes out to tell you its the graphics card or even spin fans. If you do try to boot it with it out its like "youre an idiot you need a graphics card." And it doesnt even say graphics card because it doesnt have the error beeps like other boards do. It just says "youre missing a thing. I know its important but I dont know what 'it' is."

Also NO USB 3.0 HEADERS. I have a front panel I have never used because I cant plug it in. I refuse to buy a mini adapter to make my front panel USB to work. At least the front panel USB 2.0s work.

The reason I am replacing this is because I am getting an IRQL less or not equal error and the board is not posting (or giving a "youre and idiot error") but will spin fans and try to post even though nothing is plugged in but fans. I guess I've learned my lesson in cheap computer hardware

Other Thoughts: Buy cheap buy twice.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: cheap and works well

Cons: some minor driver issues with my mouse and seems to have an issues booting up if something is plugped in in a front usb port...

Other Thoughts: i bought this to replace a blown mobo before a LAN party and worked fine for that, so i'm happy, will likely go into a secondary build later when i get a mobo i want.

2 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: None

Cons: Dead on arrival when received in January 2014... had to go to local computer shop and purchase similar from a competitor... NOT Newegg's fault...

Other Thoughts: I did receive a new board from Biostar but by then I already built the machine for my daughter's Christmas gift so I just sold the working one ( I assume) on "that auction site" LOL

1 out of 5 eggsCannot handle FX-8350

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: Says in the product description that it handles FX chips.

Put in an FX-8350, and while I can boot to windows, I get MAJOR FPS drops in CPU-intensive games. This MB simply cannot handle the power-draw of a 125w chip at full load.

Tried my exact same PC setup with a different MB and the minimum FPS went from the teens up to about 30.

Other Thoughts: GTAV is completely unplayable when using an FX-8350 and this MB. Every 30 seconds the FPS dips down into the low teens. Swapped out to a different MB and this problem went away.

I am DONE buying cheap MBs.
