5 out of 5 eggsI love Biostar

Pros: Full featured, looks nice, on board numerical LED display that shows mobo codes and temperature. BIOS is well laid out, simple to overclock. Plenty of I/O, and generally very stable.

Cons: None, it's a simple board plenty good enough for a gaming or multimedia build. If you spend more money you can get more BIOS features, a bit better voltage regulation for extreme overclocking, not much else.

Other Thoughts: Very highly recommend Biostar, I have done AMD builds with their boards as well and they are very stable and well designed.

3 out of 5 eggsMarketing audio that doesn't work

Pros: Contains all the features I need at a decent price point. Fast.

Cons: It seems that one of the main marketing points for this motherboard is the audio, but given the quality of the audio utility that's paired with it you might be surprised to hear that. I just recently built a new pc and from the very beginning I've been getting "windows is out of memory" errors. I've spent the last couple of days trying to find the issue, and it seems that it's the SmartEAR 3D audio utility that comes with the board. I'm not sure how such a glaring issue gets past. The utility consumes a 30gb page file in a matter of minutes, and it begins to disrupt your ability to do anything in windows, and only because it's open.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your comments. Here we try to setup unit to duplicate your issue but no problems found. We rand programs and games while SmartEar 3D is running and no stability issues. If you have the time, please contact Biostar support gerry@biostar-usa.com to see if we can try to duplicate your issue to help solve problem.

2 out of 5 eggsMemory Slots Issues

Pros: Nice looking, nice features, nice layout

Cons: Broken DIMM slots. Won't boot up if any memory is in the Dual Channel configuration for Dimm A1 and Dimm B1, or Dimm A2 and Dimm B2. If I put memory in Dimm A! and Dimm A2 it will recognize and boot, otherwise, it's just a constant cycle of self rebooting. Thankfully Newegg responds and allows me to RMA it, because I tried to contact Biostar support, and they haven't contacted me back.. a bit disappointing.

Other Thoughts: I really don't know if I'll be buying anything from Biostar again after this; it's one thing to receive a bad part, but it's pretty inexcusable not to answer support questions... Hopefully the second one works. I'll update the review once I receive a working one.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Motherboard

Pros: Good motherboard with plenty of memory slots and a good amount of PCI-express connections. Was really nice to have so many fan connectors physically on the board.

Cons: One of the motherboard heatsinks seemed loose and kinda wobbled around.

Other Thoughts: CPU connector seemed kinda strange and took a minute to figure out (my first Intel board may be the problem). At first i thought having sideways USB 3.0 and SATA headers would be nice but with my ATX mid tower case there was very little room to connect them. Had to remove the board to attach the cables then remount it.

1 out of 5 eggsNewEgg has horrible customer service

Pros: The board has a great layout with plenty of connections. All the connections were easy to reach within my Fractal R4 case.

Cons: Would not recognize (perhaps utilize is a better word) any RAM. Tried G.Skill, Crucial and Vulcan.... no dice.
It eventually showed the full 16Gb of 2400 G.Skill RAM, but wouldn't run it over 1333 even with XMP enabled.

BIOS update utility would crash the system (both Win 7 and 8.1).

TOverclocker utility would crash the system (both Win 7 and 8.1). The two times I was able to get this utility to open, I was greeted with numerous "invalid floating point" error windows when accessing the RAM section.

Audio was horrid. For a "hi fidelity" board, there were so many snaps, crackles and pops it made me turn off my speakers all together.

Other Thoughts: I'm done ordering through Newegg. Tried to RMA the board but they claimed there was damage done to the pins in the CPU socket. I know for a fact it was in good shape when I mailed it... but now it's a "he said, she said" situation and they say I'm out of luck.

I requested pictures of the damage... it took 3 days and several requests to receive them. They were so blurry it looks like they used a potato to take the photos.

TLDR: Newegg RMA process is lengthy and a complete joke.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear of issue you have. Most cases related to damaged cpu socket pins Biostar can help to repair at no charge, please fill Biostar RMA request form to start process.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic!

Pros: As others have already said here, this motherboard is fantastic. The layout looks very much like it came right from EVGA. With LED debug (a must have in my oppinion), power and reset buttons on the board, that's first class. This is not the first Biostar mobo that I have owned. They build a great product and I am happy that this particular unit has everything I needed for my most recent build and and a great price as well. You will love this board, don't hesitate to buy one.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Antec Nine Hundred Two case, EVGA Nova GS 750W PSU, Samsung 840 Pro SSD, Western Digital 1TB HDD, Intel 4670K, Zalman CNPS9500, 8GB GSKILL RAM, Gigabyte GTX650 Ti GPU, and of course the Biostar mobo. In the future I will upgrade the video card, but in the mean time this rig is all my son needs to play League Of Legends. The things we do for our kids.

5 out of 5 eggsBelieve positive reviews, this is better than Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI!

Pros: It just works, and it's cheap!

Cons: Might have some misalignment with the aluminum cover plate thing, but that's a common problem with all motherboards, and it's easy to fix with scissors or needle-nose pliers.

Does not support Nvidia's SLI, so you'll only be able to use 1 Nvidia video card, but I'm willing to sacrifice that feature to get a high quality stable motherboard. I would have paid more for this motherboard, even though it's only 99% perfect!

Other Thoughts: I researched every motherboard made during the last 5 years or so, and I came to the conclusion that there are no modern 5 egg motherboards on the market from the big 3 of Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI. Actually, it has been a long time since those guys made a motherboard that gets near-universal praise. The manboards they have on the market now is just buggy garbage that never got tested.

At first I believed the hype from Gigabyte about their claims of superior quality in their motherboards, but it's all just hype. Gigabyte makes garbage like Asus and MSI does. When I realized that, I started looking for alternatives. The older motherboards were just too old, hard to find, and quite expensive used. The people that own those old 5 egg motherboards consistently get high prices for them, so they cost a lot!

I very nearly gave up until I saw this motherboard from BioStar, with only 5 reviews, but all of the reviews had 5 eggs. I decided to take a chance, and give my money to a smaller company that might be more deserving, and I'm glad I did! This motherboard is every bit as good as everyone says it is, and it's not $400 like the flagship motherboards from Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI. I put the extra money I saved into other components.

If you want quality, and you're willing to pay for it, the good news is that it's actually CHEAPER from a company that doesn't have a gigantic marketing budget. This motherboard is well-engineered and high quality. It is worthy of your money. I hate problems, and this motherboard has been rock solid stable. I don't even need to think about it, it just quietly does its job.

Bottom line: Buy quality, buy this motherboard.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I like how Biostar has laid out their BIOS.. Makes it very easy to overclock which is im sure why you are looking at a mobo like this one.

Cons: Had an issue getting the videocard lined up in the PCI slot and my case, ended up breaking the tab that releases the videocard.

5 out of 5 eggsQuite pleased.

Pros: Bang for the buck.
Memory options.
It works exactly as advertised.
LED Temp gauge.
The black and blue color scheme is pretty sharp.

Cons: Lack of spdif out (mb header included but this is billed as an audiophile's board, so...).
crossfire only...no sign of sli support (knew that going in).

Other Thoughts: No complaints other than the spdif. Very easy bios. XMP profile loaded my gskills right up.Overclocking software seems pretty easy although I havent needed to OC just yet. I'm waiting for a water cooler upgrade for that. Overall solid board to build almost anything you need.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great, Enjoy the Sound Software

Pros: Great software, easily fits all of parts, easy setup with a concise manual to read and follow. Happy with the sound software built into the Motherboard brings a new life to things using even just a 2.1 with a subwoofer speaker system.

Cons: No cons works great houses everything correctly and has plenty of space for all my external parts such as ram fans and massive gpu.

Other Thoughts: Affordable and simple for a first build or advance build I highly recommend this product.
