5 out of 5 eggsWorth every penny and more

Pros: Everything as advertised. Four ram slots, supports 1150 chips, and enough various pci slots for me at such a great price, and all 4 usb2 ports and 2 usb3 ports ended up working great. Recognized my usb mouse/keyboard instantly for bios. The updated bios was super easy to get going and use, took seconds to get through it and start installing windows. Popped in the CD that came with this MB to update everything quickly. Then put in the GPU, updated its drivers and smooth sailing since. Glad I went with this for my first time build.

Cons: Really? Cons* are a required field? How dare you, on such a fine product.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY

Pros: Who knows

Cons: I ordered this board for my company and it did not have the BIOS chip installed. So we send it back for a replacement and the second board comes in. Guess what? There's no BIOS chip on that one either. Biostar has horrible QC. Do not buy from them.

Manufacturer Response:

You have brought up a very serious matter and Biostar would apprecieate if you can contact us for details of your case, please contact gerry@biostar-usa.com or call 626-581-1055 menu 2 for direct assistance.

4 out of 5 eggsUser friendly, good features

Pros: Easy to set up for a beginner, well finished, good sound quality

Cons: Red boards go faster?

Other Thoughts: I bought this board for my first build, in part because of the care put into the sound side, but also because it has 4 RAM slots. I've been pleased with it. It was fairly easy for me to install, and it seems to be of decent quality.

5 out of 5 eggs  2 months and going strong

Pros: Purchased 2 of these for my kids builds. 4 memory slots and 6g SATA plus usb 3.0 at this price point is awesome. Biostar hasn't let me down yet.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Take a shot, it's worth it

5 out of 5 eggsDecent board, seems reliable

Pros: - Supported my Core i5-4460 right out of the box, which seems to be an issue with other boards right now
- 3 fan power ports (1 pwm for CPU, 2 for case fans)
- All of the caps seem to be solid, which should improve longevity
- Plenty of SATA ports (4 @ III, 2 @ II, I think)
- Plenty of USB ports (2 @ 3.0, 4 @ 2.0, and then some more on front panel)
- I might have enough room to install a larger CPU cooler without hitting the RAM
- Since my 750 Ti graphics card cooler pushes the air towards the MB, the southbridge heatsink gets almost direct cooling.
- Audio sounds good
- Reasonable layout for all connectors (all power connectors, fans, SATA, front panel, ...)

Cons: - The BIOS reset jumper is way at the bottom of the board, which means that, in my mATX case, I will probably need to uninstall my graphics card to access the CMOS jumper
- The lever which needs to be pushed to remove the graphics card from the PCIe x16 3.0 port will be almost to depress with a 2-slot cooler. It is pretty hard to find any purchase on that level from the CPU-side of the graphics card.

Other Thoughts: - Only came with 2 SATA cables, which is pretty standard, but it forced me to buy another SATA cable (more expensive than imagined)

3 out of 5 eggsCould Be Better

Pros: All the stuff about the 85 chipset is true. It has six SATA ports, including four that run at 6Gb/s. Accepts the LGA 1150 CPUs.

Cons: The biggest con is the lack of a PS-2 mouse port. You'd think, if you were a hardware designer and you absolutely had to use this trick, you'd put the mouse data on the two extra pins of the single port so that one could plug in a simple splitter cable and use both devices.

Well, that doesn't work for this mobo. I tried a splitter cable and the mouse still does not work. So, minus one egg for the missing mouse port and then minus one more egg for the missing mouse data pins on the single PS-2 port.

Believe it or not, there's still plenty of us who have our 19-inch KVM switches with PS-2 ports and who would like to plug our new mobos into them. On top of that, we don't want to take the performance penalty on mouse movement that occurs with a USB mouse. So, a mobo with both ports is still a plus, or, worst comes to worst, a mobo with a single port that will allow the use of a simple splitter is also a plus to a lesser degree.

Now, if you don't care about the PS-2 port issue, you can rate this board five eggs.

And, if you do want to use this board with a PS-2 KVM switch, I've found that both the Trendnet TU-PS2 and Perixx PERIPRO-401 PS-2 to USB adapters work with my KVM switch (a Hawking CS-168).

Other Thoughts: Another mobo manufacturer who could be selling a great mobo for Linux use but is too lazy to certify it for any OS except for the one we're all "supposed" to use, and supply a few basic device drivers. Basically, it works in spite of them. The secret to getting it to work (CentOS 6.5 install comes up and says some piece of hardware [its a secret] is incompatible). The secret? Its the Intel Integrated Grafics.

To make it work, under the BIOS Chipset/System Agent Config, make sure to set: RC6 (Render Standby): Disabled; Azalia Internal HDMI Codec: Disabled.

Kudos to CentOS for having learned nothing in 35 years and not telling the user which piece of hardware offends, thereby leaving them to guess what it is and how to fix it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Haswell mATX motherboard

Pros: 4 memory slots on a small size micro ATX (only 7 mounting screws). Low priced, and all three video outputs, VGA, DVI, & HDMI.
I have had good luck with Biostar motherboards, only 1 failure out of 14 in two years.

Cons: The usual problem with micro ATA motherboards, they extend forward in front the last set of mounting screws. One is nervous plugging in cables on the cantilevered front edge, especially the main 20+4 pin power plugs.

Other Thoughts: The only reason I put a i5-4670K on it was I got the CPU cheap. An i3-4130 would be more appropriate.
With 2 pairs of 4GB DDR3-1600 got Windows-7-64bit WEI of 7.6, 7.9, 6,7, 6.7, & 5.9. Yes, it does run warmer than a socket-1155 Sandy Bridge CPU.
I will stick with Sandy Bridge socket-1155 which run cooler.

4 out of 5 eggsGood budget board

Pros: Great if you're on a budget

Cons: No overclocking for cpu, I was able to bump the frequency on my G3220 iGPU from 1100 to 1350 and it's running fine (no video card). I can get playable FPS (20-30fps) at 1920x1080 on games like Bioshock infinite, Crysis 2, Dota2, and Skyrim with low to medium settings.

Other Thoughts: My build:
Intel G3220 Haswell 3.0ghz
8gb G.Skill Ares 1600mhz DDR3
Corsair CX430 430watt

5 out of 5 eggs  great board

Pros: I built an office machine for my Mom, using a Intel LGA 1150 Pentium Dual Core processor, 2x4GB sticks of G Skill RAM, 2 SATA 6GB/s hdd, 1 DVD Drive, and a SeaSonic 300W PSU.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I love BioStar. I've never had a bad board from them.
