2 1/2 Months & all's well, almost
- Pros: After about a month, the switching between onboard graphics & the GeForce 8400 GS vid-card connected via standard VGA sockets has become second nature, finally. Both NVIDIA GeForce 8 series HDMI video & PCIe x16 are connected to the monitor (TV), a Vizio VW22LHDTV10T. The HDMI was a nice surprise a little better than DTV over the air waves. The onboard intgrated graphics does play Directx 9.0c OK @ 1024x768 w/frame rates of 32 FSP++ maxed settings (FS9 & SS III Grey Wolves Exp for example), Leaving the DX10 to be toggled over to the x16GPU which handles the latest and greatest games OK at less than 21~27 when settings are higher (saving up for a 9600GS card, got it already picked out here on Newegg, ofcoarse).
- Cons: Needed to order an after markrt NVIDIA-NORTH-FAN -- NVIDIA Aluminum Northbridge Chipset (opps). Gaming with the Onboard Graphics does cause the ACPI Zone THRM to reach about 136*F and much hisher with the rougher games. However, websurfing and watching videos it is now at ACPI Zone THRM : 104 °F. Downloading nVidia's updates has made the confusion as to how to toggle between monitors "on-the-fly" or in my case toggling graphic screens less confusing.
- Other Thoughts: System power: Corsair TX650W crammed into my 10 year old mini-tower powering a Brisbane 5400 @ default 2.8GHZ & can easily over clock above Gig+++ with these twin 120mm filtered fans in ths little case (and case side open ;>) But, this Brisbane doesn't need over clocking for my needs, figuring default allows it to last longer, maybe, and temps are manageable thereby...AMD Athlon 64 X2 (Core 2) :54.5 °F AMD Athlon 64 X2 (Core 1) : 36.5 °F
4 Eggies because the board has a good bIOS but the toggling takes too much time to figure out & the 136*F when trying to FS9 sim on the onboard video (An article read, before I chose this board) that the manufactures did not intend for the Onboard IGU to be used for heavy gaming, but, rather a "Green" feature for consevation minded folk like me..
not that bad
- Pros: bought this for a budget everyday use machine light gaming surfing studying worked beautifully at first boot runs better than expected
- Cons: had to set 2 different jumpers for the usb headers to work other than that non
- Other Thoughts: has run for 36 hours straight temps are stable on the chipset at 36 degrees c the surround sound sounds awesome but i am in a small space
JUNK
- Pros: Nice layout , Ample sata ports . Newegg is the bomb. Got it here fast and on time .
- Cons: RUNS HOT and I mean 169 Deg F on the chipset. Started dropping drives then just went to no posting .
Why they put floppy ports on anymore is of no sence. Thier website and tech support sucks.
- Other Thoughts: Buy a Foxconn or gigabyte . They have been a better board.
