Luvs Linux & Runs cool
- Pros: The onboard nVidia 8200/256m "variation" video is all that's needed for my movies and editing using VGA. HDMI works well with my HDTV otherwise. Surprisingly, this board runs cool with the AM2+/2.8g CPU and 8g RAM. The IDE PATA133 for one OS (-4g one) and the 650g SATA2 for the other OS, this board allows for both older "already got" drives & the latest SATA2 drives from Newegg. Plenty of room in that old MINI tower 4 bay.
- Cons: Manual not very clear explaining power connections. My son figured it correctly dispite the friendly Jetway fellow on the phone who could only refer him to tech via email. After a month, I'm still waiting on the answers that we figured out for our selves, precarious manual. Albeit, a seasoned Micro ATX builder would have no problem with the factory taped over the four pin power plug, manual not clear. It's seemingly not used with the 20 pin block on this mobo for it is running very nicely (and quitely) using the 8 Pin block and 20 pin block and the tape remaining over the 4 pin block, it was confusing for a while...
- Other Thoughts: Only one system fan and the CPU fan is cooling this at present. It's so very quite as it is for HDTV/movies. However, an nVidia recommended 8400GS x16/512 w/fan to be ordered from Newegg this week may require that 2nd system fan. Eager to place the Newegg order for Vista 64 on that big new latest-greatest SATA2 hard drive and latest ASUS DVD burner, from Newegg ofcoarse, dispite how well Linux Ubuntu 2009 runs on it, too. Besides, 'got quite a collection of XP software... (Windows On Windows, maybe?).
It works...
- Pros: Works fine... was included as a combo with a CPU which made it a steal.
- Cons: Manufacturer's website is confusing if you are new to this
- Other Thoughts: The integrated graphics is powerful enough to run Vista and get started but you will want to buy a video card eventually. Im using an AMD 64X2 cpu and it works well.
