A good little board/cpu combo

Pros: low power/low heat

cheap

no rebooting problems as some other people reported (probably shipped with a newer BIOS revision)

better performance than Atom (at least in benchmarks)

Cons: Can't boot from a USB memory stick.

Requires a pretty new OS in order to get the OS to install. When trying to install Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy the SATA controller driver wasn't really compatible with the hardware; it would only recognize one of the devices connected to the SATA ports so we couldn't install due to using both a SATA CD drive and a SATA hard drive. Tried Windows Vista but the installer would immediately bluescreen every time. Both Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty and the Windows 7 RC had no trouble installing at all (but the included Windows driver CD wouldn't work with 7 so I was stuck with the generic Windows drivers for video, ugh). Didn't have a Windows XP install disk to test that OS. But overall it seems you have to have the absolute newest Windows or Linux OSes in order to install the OS (and the included driver CD will work with none of these OSes... it seems to be designed for Windows XP).

Great Motherboard

Pros: This board supports 64bit OS. It is great motherboard. it supports 3GB of ram or more. It supports ECC memory!

Cons: the random reboots where a problem for about two minutes till I figured it out.

Other Thoughts: The random reboots are caused by the watch dog timer built into the mother board. Just disable it in the BIOS. The newest Firmware disables the watch dog time I believe. This is the second time I submitted this reveiw, they did not post it before. I could have saved people from returning it. I guess newegg doesn't care.

Get the Atom instead

Pros: Small, low power Mini-ITX board. Supports 2GB of RAM.

Cons: Same random rebooting problems reported in other reviews. I got 2008 server running on it, but it would randomly reboot. Do yourself a favor and get the Intel Atom Mini ITX (BOXD945GCLF2) board instead. The Atom board has the same basic specs, will take 2GB of RAM and is dual-core. I've been running 2008 on it and it runs just as well as the VIA Nano.

Other Thoughts: The VIA Nano is supposed to be theoretically faster than the Atom 270, but I don't know how it stacks up against the newer dual core 330. I would expect them to be about equal as the VIA Nano does 2 calculations per cycle and the Atom does 1 calculation per cycle per core.
