The P45R2000-WiFi from ASRock is a great choice for an upgrade board. This LGA775 board supports both DDR2 and DDR3 memory so you can use your DDR2 memory to start and when you need more speed then you can switch the memory out for DDR3. The P45 chipset supports Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Extreme processors as well as Core 2 Duo with 1333/1600/2000(OC) FSB.
The motherboard has everything you would expect. It has 6 SATA ports plus 2 eSATA ports (shared with the internal ports) for drives and an ATA133 header for legacy drives. There are 6xUSB ports on the back panel and 2 headers for 4 more ports. There is a 7.1 channel audio system with analog and SPDIF ports.
The motherboard comes with the WiFi-802.11g module. This lets you connect wirelessly if you put the computer in a room too far away from your router. Or you can set it up in Access Point mode and not have to worry about setting up a separate device if all of your other computers are wireless. The 2xGigabit Ethernet ports let you connect to a printer or a broadband modem.

1066 Dual Channel problem solved!
- Pros: I found out why I couldn't run DDR2 at 1066 in Dual Channel....it was the memory.
This Kingston HyperX memory (perhaps all HyperX memory) will not run at 1066 in dual channe on this mobo even though it's rated at 1066: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104038 It will run 1066 in single channel mode (either stick in either slot), but only at 800 in dual channel.
ASRock tech support said to get OCZ, Corsair or G.SKILL memory.
I replaced the HyperX with OCZ: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227298
Everything is running perfectly stable now at 1066 dual channel.
- Cons: Some memory won't run at rated speeds.
As stated above, do NOT use Kingston HyperX memory with this mobo!
- Other Thoughts: This is a great board, and offers a LOT for the price, but you have to be careful of what memory you use.
I hope this helps the other people that are having memory problems.
Also, be sure to set memory remap option in BIOS if using 4GB or more of ram.
This is my 4th ASRock mobo & all have been good solid boards, I've called tech support on many ocassions with questions about BIOS settings, etc. & have never been put on hold for more thn 5 minutes & they've always been helpful (they also didn't treat me like I was some sort of idiot).
I'm sure most of you are aware that ASRock is ASUS' budget line...but some of these "budget" boards rival some "enthusiast" boards.
Great Board!!!Most stable board I ever used!
- Pros: Straight to the point board! Bios is good. Even though my new processor hadn't been put in the list yet it recognized and was great with a little tweaking. I have an e8600 Wolfdale. If you have one make sure you set to optimized under CPU to get it to correctly identify. It works great with Reapers 2x2 gb memory from OCZ. If you are using 2 dimms of that memory timings of 6-6-6-18-54-2t uses 1.77 volts. If you have 8 megs then the same settings require 1.95 dimm voltage to run correctly. I wish it had more fan connections for 3pin mobo fans. I bought 2 spot fans from Antec and I had to modify them to fit the power supply instead because of this.
- Cons: I didn't like where the wi-fi plugs into. It's crowds my slot, but I bought the new wirless n router anyway, so it wasn't an issue. Works great with my 1100w power supply from ABS. I had a problem after building it thinking my power supply was bad because it has no LED or light that tells you the motherboard is getting powered, but it turned out my power suppy exteral grounding cable wasn't grounded to a good place. This motherboard does very well with heat. It puts out very minimal heat.
- Other Thoughts: It took me two weeks to figure out if I wanted to take a chance on a brand of mobo that I never heard of before. I was into ASUS amd DFI only, but after ASUS never returned my calls and treated me like a number I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. I usually look for the most expensive motherboard out there, but this one is a total con. It's well worth over 200 dollars. Thanks ASROC for doing a job well done, one nice feature I would like to see is the placement of the power pin connectors to be moved to the front so it makes it look clean when built.

Failure
- Pros: None
- Cons: Would not boot windows xp, vista, 7.0
Would not boot a cd from bios Blue screen on boot
- Other Thoughts: Extremely fail
Garbage
- Pros: Lots of options
- Cons: Many issues. The first board I recieved was DOA, not a big deal it happens. So I send it back at my expense of course and get another one. Does alright but has issues posting sometimes with random restarts. Now have had it for 6 months and it wont post at all just like the first one.
Disappointed
- Pros: Price
- Cons: Bought two boards, one worked (with some tweaking) the other never posted.
I didn't think that the post lights/codes were all that important until I had problems and didn't have a clue.
- Other Thoughts: NEWEGG is still the best.
