1 out of 5 eggsAsrock 870 Extreme 3

Pros: Compatible with a lot of good equipment.

Cons: Have had problems with this mobo since the beginning. Every few months or so, I would have a problem with it causing me to replace a part until ultimately I replaced everything except the motherboard. After replacing each part it would work for a while and then another error would come up saying it was something else. My RAM never did work right with this motherboard and finally after having it for over a year, I'm finally getting five beeps in the bios which is clearly a motherboard issue. It is also my understanding that it has been recalled because of so many complaints. I would definitely not buy this motherboard.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize that you having difficulty with mainboard.
5 beeps usually related to VGA card.
Please turn the power off, clear the CMOS.
Reseat VGA card firmly to assure fully contact with the slot.
If you have any technical issues or warranty questions please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We can assist you shortly.

Thank you

3 out of 5 eggsWhat everyone is saying is true

Pros: This was a very affordable and well working piece of machinery.

Cons: I've had it for about 2 years now and for the past 8 months it's been making noises as if you can hear the electricity flowing loudly. I've had 2 graphics cards of different manufacturers fail on it and then work again later. When I built this computer I was glad to find such a good deal, but now I'm going to have to rebuild it with a new motherboard.

Other Thoughts: This was the first computer I've ever built so there could have been causes on my end for some of the functionality errors.

1 out of 5 eggsMotherboard failure

Pros: lots of nifty features

Cons: does not last very long

Other Thoughts: So it has been a little less than two years and all the ports on this thing are dying. First the ethernet port died; then my keyboard port died. Now the PCI-e 2.0 slot housing my has GPU died and I had to switch my graphics card over to the free one.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works well in general. Supports 1090T, SATA 6GB and USB 3.0

Cons: Died a little less than 2 years. I consider that is too short for a motherboard.

3 out of 5 eggsJust Under two yeas

Pros: Worked Great.

Cons: It worked great...

Other Thoughts: A Motherboard should last longer then 2 years. This one didn't last the whole two. Giving ASRock one more chance, other then this failure 100% satisfied. Warranty only lasts for a year.

4 out of 5 eggsFirst Mobo.

Pros: Ports and connectors are at ideal location. Supports CFX. Bios is easy. ACHI mode. ALL SATA PORTS (at least it says on the manual) ARE SATAIII.

Came with software that reduced my CPU clock speed when not in use, and max it out when playing games etc. CPU voltage didn't change.
Also came with a soft OCer software that lets me monitor/change fan speeds, ambient temps, "CPU temps" (the temp on the socket, download "Core Temp" to actually see CPU temp).

Still works after a year (purchased at 3/2011)

Cons: No egg off: no SLI support, No USB3 front header, it's BIOS and not UEFI, Not as many USB ports as current ones but I won an auction for a $2 7-port USB expansion with a power adapter. I was using "Unlocked Core" and was getting blue screens. It would have been nice to have the manual say Deneb Phenoms won't support it, or what cpus it supports.

Egg off: PS/2 isn't working.

Other Thoughts: My 180GB Corsair Force 3 SSD was insta recognized. Googled how to turn on ACHI, 4-5 steps and resets later it was in ACHI mode.

My Phenom 965 BE can go from 3.4Ghz to ~3.8Ghz OC in the summer time with a coolermaster CPU fan.

Overall I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase. However, I actually am moving towards Intel probably for their "Haswell" cpus. Intel has Virtue MVP* for GPU computing that I heard kepler cards suck* at (compared to Fermis and Radeons), as well as better* raid controllers and future intel controllers supporting TRIM for RAID0 SSDs. I'll also need integrated graphics to figure out if my GFX Card is the one having problems or not. Though AMD have better APUs, not all their CPUs have integrated graphics.

*Please correct me if I'm wrong w/ any of these statements. These are based off of reviews and not from personal experience.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I've owned this board since 11/2010 and have never had to reset anything. Straight from box to bootup everything worked without a hitch. USB 3.0 is great to have and a few 90° SATA ports that were helpful when installing drives.

Cons: Upon booting up the computer, sometimes the Onboard LAN will not recognize a connection. All I have to do disable the device, wait 10 seconds then renable it. Not worth taking an Egg off for, but annoying none the less. After about a year the audio randomly disconnects/reconnects (not often enough to warrant recording the intervals). However, these could be driver issues.

Other Thoughts: I haven't tried any overclocking as I am using the stock HSF for the CPU.
