5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Really, I have no idea but it's been working for over a year now with no problems and I felt like it would be a shame if I didn't leave a review saying so.

Cons: .

3 out of 5 eggsNot real happy

Pros: Chipset, board layout, expansion, throughput. Bios is nice, just doesn't support my chip.

Cons: Have had terrible stability with this board. Just annoying enough that I've not sent it back. No support for the 3.7 Quad Phenom 980 (that I have). 3.6, but no 3.7 Asrock says, and no bios update forthcoming I guess. I'm not sure how everyone else on earth can overclock systems a ghz (or so they say), but I'm told this can't run at 3.7Ghz with a chip that's actually a 3.7? Hey Asrock, huh? So if I get a 3Ghz chip I can overclock it to 4Ghz, but a 3.7 won't run at 3.7? I guess I'm not savvy enough to understand...

Other Thoughts: This board is huge. I won't list that as a con, but it sure is big. Like an old 286 board in an AT. I'm not happy that a board of this price/featureset, has no support for the flagship processor of its day. I'm having stability issues with this, and I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel. It fails to detect my OCZ Solid State drive and then requires a full power off (kill switch on ps) to workaround. AsRock Tech says there is a newer rev (rev2) of this that does support the 3.7, but that doesn't help me since Newegg didn't have that board, and still doesn't that I see. Ya know how when you get a brand new system and first power it on, if you see the slightest glitch you know this isn't going to be a smooth running machine? Well that's the feeling I got on this immediately on power up. And it's lived up to that first impression.
GSkill Sniper 8G. Phenom II 980 3.7. Ocz Sata3 SSD. OCZ 700w ps. HD6770 Sapphire. Not working satisfactorily.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Quality Control.

Pros: Has alternating PCI Express Slots allowing 7 slot back panel expansion Tri-Fire.

Has LED error codes to tell you what's wrong.

Cons: Bought 3:
- 1st DOA
- 2nd died within 2 days after plugging in a new power supply.
- 3rd probably not far behind.
LED Display sits at 00. Not even bios boot.

Never capable of posting with all three PCI Express slots filled.
BIOS has yet to be updated by ASRock.

Other Thoughts: I bought three of these boards since they are reasonably priced and have their PCI Express slots alternating with the last one 2 slots above the bottom of the board. This allows you to run a Tri-Fire setup on a cheaper 7 slot expansion back panel case as a large dual card won't come in contact with the bottom of the case. If you want something for this reason, pay the extra $10 and get the Gigabyte. I will still only stick with ASUS though for my personal boards.

2 out of 5 eggsLimited Support. Would not buy another one

Pros: On par with other board options. My review is for 890GX Extreme 3. Reason to post on Extreme 4 review is to make buyers like me aware that support for Asrock boards can set you back within a year.

Cons: Extreme 3 has USB 3.0, Sata 6 and all the bells and whistles, not a cheap board. BUT have not had BIOS update since Oct 2010. I cannot use 3TB drives on Windows 7 as BIOS does not support UEFI. Calling support (Mr Pablo. suggests, I return the board to the vendor :-) How should i do that, I didnt get it, after almost a year of purchase.

Other Thoughts: BIG Caution, you may get hosed on some other feature by next year, as newer peripherals come out. I think saving about 20 bucks is going to cost me a whole new board, if I stay with 3.0 tb drives, that i got here last week.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Nice board, overall a good layout and lots of features. Has been solid, though I haven't OC'd.

Cons: I purchased this board partly because it had a 1x pcie slot in addition to the three 16/8/4x slots. Apparently the 1x slot and the 3rd 16x slot are shared, so I cannot use an additional device when I have 3 video cards installed.

Perhaps this is bad wording in the manual or there is a way around it that I haven't found. It's not a big enough of an issue to RMA the boards, but it's an inconvenience not being able to use all of the slots.

Other Thoughts: System Specs:
Ubuntu 11.04 64bit on USB thumbdrive
3x Radeon 6950
OCZ 1250watt PSU

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Well I bought this as an open Box item and saved myself almost 70.00. I swear to you when I got this it did not look like it had been touched at all. No problems what so ever. You have to know how to set up the bios and make sure everything is cool before turning on any computer for the first time. Got my 435 rana at 3.8 ghz with a tiny voltage increase and runs like crazy.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: First open box and would do it again i think because people return things because it is not what they wanted or put the wrong hardware in and do not know how to troubleshoot it. or maybe no time to mess with it, Well your loss is my gain. I bet a 1/4 of the stuff returned they think is faulty but it is not and just human error.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: my first motherboard. it works well, and it has a nice layout, and the on board video works well enough for now.(probably buy a video card before too long though). havent tried overclocking with it yet though.

Cons: none, really liked this board.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: Great Idea, poorly executed.

Cons: Manual seems like it was written by a 7 year old. Received post codes that were not in the manual. PCIE clip is annoying and pointless. Would boot, set time and reboot. Then would cycle through several different post codes. Only if I reset the cmos would it allow me to get back into the bios. Then the situation just repeated itself.

Other Thoughts: I think this product had been opened before I received it, it was missing half of the SATA cables, and one of the molex to SATA power cables. It was also not sealed.

3 out of 5 eggsOrdered 2, Both DOA

Pros: Seemed like a nice board. Newegg's return process was easy.

Cons: Ordered one, arrived DOA. But that's ok; it happens sometimes. So I returned for an exchange, but the second arrived DOA too. I figure there was a bad batch at the factory. Both boards failed in the same way: something was wrong with the CMOS chip.

Other Thoughts: I gave 3 eggs because I can't comment about the performance of the board. After the second DOA, I went with another model.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Easy to set up. Quite a few options in BIOS. Unlocked Athlon 2 X3 450 and 455 fourth core with a push of a key. Couldn't be easier.

Cons: Does not have IDE connectors. Sata only. Suppose that will be the norm from now on.

Other Thoughts: Bought two for system builds. Unlocked Athlon 2 x3 450 and 455 processors 4th core. Installed G.Skill 2g (1333) on one board and G.Skill Ripjaws 4g (1333) sticks on another. Windows shows unlocked processors as Phenom II x4 B50 and B55 respectively.
