3 out of 5 eggsadequate

Pros: mini itx, 4 sata. cpu is fast enough for a nas

Cons: Realtek NIC will not do gigabit with a video card attached. i have 2 of these boards, neither will connect at gigabit with a video card installed. take the video card out, gigabit speed is back.

5 out of 5 eggsOh hey look a title

Pros: -Cheap
-Silent CPU fan
-Has a CPU fan at all (at the time of this review most were just heatsinks)
-is pushing only ~20W right now
-runs Debian out of the box like a boss (aside from one network driver)

Cons: None yet, will report them when they happen. I am running it as a home webserver, so it is not expected to ever be turned off.

Other Thoughts: As a personal web server, it doesn't need a lot of power, but I have yet to pull the CPU above 35%. With this consuming so little power, my only real cost here is bandwidth. I hope to consider this a part of the best ~$100 web server I could have put together at the time.

5 out of 5 eggsStellar File Server

Pros: Great file server. Running Debian minimal (CLI only) and has never had a hiccup. Booted immediately and never looked back. Runs 64-bit without trouble. Streams content with no troubles. Been running for 283 days straight 24/7.

Cons: The backplate is a bit finicky when it comes to installing the board. I bent one of the tabs, so be watchful of the big tab over the HDMI port

Other Thoughts: As someone mentioned, its good to get a bigger fan and remove the stock one. The little fan is noisy and not too good at keeping the cpu cool, especially under considerable load. I'd recommend taking a 12cm fan and just leaning it against the cpu heatsink. Works for me.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate: Realtek 8111E NIC failed after 16 months

Pros: Price and value.
Low power consumption.
Fully compatible with NAS4Free and FreeBSD 9.1

Cons: Realtek 8111E Onboard NIC recently failed. It refuses to maintain a connection to the switch. When the connection is restored, it dies as soon as I try to access the computer.

Other Thoughts: This is an update to my 5-star feedback post. I use this build as a home server running NAS4Free 9.1.0.1 Sandstorm. It's on 24/7, and I haven't turned it off for more than a few hours at a time for the last 15 months.

Given the continuously ON nature of the machine, and the price of the motherboard, having the NIC fail at this time is acceptable. Nothing lasts forever, right? Only thing is, the Dell GX150 this thing replaced never failed at anything. I guess they don't build them like they used to.

I ordered a replacement Realtek 8111B Rosewill PCI-Express NIC for the repair.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: Small. Supports lots of RAM. Integrated HDMI, both audio and video. Capacitors appear quite solid

Cons: HDMI output on a 1920 TV choppy.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this to power a small form factor home entertainment PC. The main purpose was to run YouTube at 1080p on a 65" LED. The first build resulted in major lag running YouTube videos at 1080p with the resolution at 1920. Audio is okay, but video couldn't quite keep up. Dropped down to 720p and it was better, but still not satisfactory. I rebuilt the OS after swapping a standard SATA HDD out with an SSD. With all the drivers up to date on Windows 7 Pro x64, 8GB of DDR3, high-quality cable and receiver on the 65" Vizio Razor LED, the audio quality remains top notch, but YouTube videos at 1080p still just too choppy. Dropped down to 720p, everything looks good so far. Not to be too picky, but if you're looking for top-notch playback at full res, you'll want to get a more powerful board.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for file server

Pros: Great board to run Windows 2008 R2 and attached external Sans Digital 5-bay SATA HDD enclosure with HighPoint 620 RAID card. 8GB of RAM installed, never had an issue. CPU runs at 55C.

Cons: Price - now you can put together a higher performance board + CPU with lots more bang for the buck. I got this board two years ago for the same price it is now.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent MoBo/CPU Combo

Pros: Use in a fileserver (Chenbro ES34169 case, 4 SATA 3.0 Drives). Runs Fedora 19, x86_64, 8GB memory. Runs headless; no keyboard, mouse nor monitor.

Cons: None so far. This runs 24x7 as a fileserver, so if there are issues, I should find them relatively soon. So below for comments on 32bit ethernet. That issue cost my review 1 egg.

Other Thoughts: The Ethernet port will not run on 32bit Fedora. This board replaced one running 32bit Fedora 17. Couldn't get ethernet to work on previous OS. As last resort put USB thumb drive with X86_64 live distro and it worked. So, had to reinstall OS, but all seems good now.

1 out of 5 eggsLaggy

Pros: Cheap
Easy to install

Cons: Painfully slow
Horrible with Windows 8

Other Thoughts: This was my first and last attempt at building a desktop piece by piece, after months of trouble-shooting all signs point to this processor being the culprit for constant lagging and video crashing. I don't even stream music on it anymore, I found that it just cannot handle it if you so much as open a new tab while any other song or video is playing. Consistently runs maxed out usage according a program I had to install to monitor my PC, a horrible companion for Windows 8.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Thank you for your purchase and review. Due to budget mainboard with built-in CPU and APU, the performance will be limited if it compares to entry level or high-end mainboards.
However it’s also related to total amount of memory installed and Windows drive (SSD drive could be faster).
If you have any technical issues or warranty questions please contact our Tech Support at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We can assist you shortly.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsgreat value

Pros: great little cpu/mbcombo. Sure its not the fastest, but with good ram, and win 7 32bit, it'll stream hulu just fine (via usb wifi card).

Cons: heat is an issue with the included fan. replace the stock low cfm fan on the heatsink with a better one from newegg and you have no problems

Other Thoughts: obviously not a gamer, but that said, it /will/ play Halo classic (combat evolved, custom edition) on medium-low settings (no shadows, etc). is also capable of emulating the n64 quite well, and I have one running as a dedicated pj64 box as a replacement for a dead n64 console and it works just fine.

for htpc use its perfect, streams hulu, youtube, etc fine just remember it isnt going to be totally silent (hs/f is too small and needs a high cfm fan to be installed or lag/bsod playing 720p media.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid and Easy

Pros: Easy swap of my old Gigabyte M/B that had leaking electrolytic caps. Workstation at the office, no problems yet since July 7, 2012.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: I recently bought another ASROCK AMD m/b for quad-core processor. That system is solid as well.
