4 out of 5 eggsWorks well for 2+ years

Pros: Longevity

Cons: Recently I tried to add a new 4K video card, but the board will not post with it installed. The video card company suggested a bios upgrade. I had the same "no post" problem with the 4k video card on another mother board and a bios upgrade solved it. ASRock has bios upgrades for windows only. I put in a ticket for binary of the bios that I can directly load onto the SPI chip, but 8 days and no response other than the "we will contact you soon". If you're a Linux user, you cannot upgrade the bios from ASRock.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear normcf,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please download and update the latest BIOS at link " http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?cat=Download&os=BIOS&Model=H67M-ITX ".
Set the UEFI BIOS default.
Reseat the VGA card firmly with its 6 + 6 PCIE power (if applied).
Check the power supply is providing enough power to both VGA card and system.
If you have any technical issues please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsOne Year old this month

Pros: This is just an update. This Board is still working like a Champ! It's been updated from an Intel G530 to I3 2100. I felt this is an important update since we've run it 24/7 for a year. This is our Home server/HTPC.

Cons: Still Non.

1 out of 5 eggsWouldn't Post

Pros: *Looks nice
*Fits in smaller cases
*Perfect for home theater PC

Cons: *A friend of mine very knowledgeable with CIS help me put this together and after we were finished the mobo would not post.
*Sent it back immediately for a refund and turned around and bought a more reputable mobo.

Other Thoughts: I read lots of reviews before I bought this mobo. It seemed to have work for most people but a good chunk of customers received a defective mobo. I was in that chunk. So think hard before you buy this because you might get 2 or 3 DOA before you get a working one.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear AsRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. AsRock mainboards are fully tested to assure that they're working before shipped. Unfortunately, due to nature of electronic product, it can happen. If using Ivy Bridge processor that you might need to update the BIOS in order to recognize the new processor. For the future reference, pre-trouble shooting can be done by below steps with known good components; remove the mainboard from inside computer to outside. You can place the mainboard on empty mainboard box, clear CMOS, check the mainboard’s CPU socket pins should not be bent or missing then reseat the processor to the CPU socket with heatsink fan as well, inserts 1 memory module only in A1 slot, Onboard Video, power supply with connecting 24 pins + 8 pins ATX power to the mainboard, and try again. As always, we appreciate your purchase and constructive reviews are welcome.

Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsOutdated?

Pros: Fits in my ITX case

Cons: So far it doesn't work. 4 BIOS beep codes on startup. My guess is that the motherboard ships with an outdated BIOS. I don't know of any other work-around other than buying another (lower-end) CPU, which I then can't return, just so I can install Windows and upgrade the BIOS.

Other Thoughts: In the olden days, you could still boot up a motherboard, even if the CPU was newer than the supported ones by the BIOS, just so you could upgrade it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear AsRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. If the CPU is Ivy Bridge, the BIOS update is needed to recognizing the new processor. If not the Ivy Bridge CPU, try with known good memory in A1 slot to see if it's solved the issue. If still having same issues please contact our Tech Support at 909-590-8308. We can assist you shortly.

Thank you

4 out of 5 eggsGood value, no onboard USB 3.0

Pros: Great price, nice BIOS & options

Cons: No USB 3.0 pin-outs, drivers CD didn't work (using Win 8 Rel Preview)

Other Thoughts: Looks like a nice little board, will see if it lasts. Using with Intel i3-2105 3.1Ghz & Kingston 256GB SSD; installed in Antec's tiny ISK 300-150 case which actually came with USB 3.0 jacks on the front panel (!) Unfortunately, this mobo only has USB 2.0 pinouts on the board, so I ended up using the provided USB 3.0-to-2.0 converter cable. It has USB 3.0s on the back of course, but would've been an extra bonus to have them accessible on the front. The only other issue was the enclosed CD which produced assert errors when trying to launch the drivers installer (in Windows 8 Release Preview); ended up downloading drivers from ASRock's website, all seems good, Win 8 boots & runs very fast.

5 out of 5 eggsIt just works

Pros: - Great for Mini ITX build
- Logical Layout
- Plenty of ports for an average user
- Posted on the first try, nice BIOS options for the price point

Cons: None that I can find. Not really sure what everyone is complaining about. I love how most of the people who can't get it to work also claim to have a "High" level of technical competency. HA!

Other Thoughts: Booted up first time no issues. Paired it with a LIAN LI PC-Q07case, Intel i2-2125 CPU and 4 GB of Corsair XMS3 1333 RAM. Motherboard even started in AHCI mode, recognized all physical drives... I built it for someone else, but after 2 months they're still happy with it.

1 out of 5 eggsFirst and Last ASRock mobo

Pros: Small.

Cons: Board arrived with outdated BIOS version which redered it completely incompatible with the Ivy Bridge CPU I ordered. I did my homework and selected a CPU that ASRock has listed on their QVL. Needless to say it would not POST without a BIOS upgrade. I contacted tech support with ASRock and requested an updated BIOS chip. They didn't have one in stock so I had to wait nearly 3 weeks for one to be shipped from Taiwan, updated, and then shipped to me.

With the new chip in I was no longer getting the beep-code for incompatible CPU however I now had a new beep-code with NO POST. I looked up the ASRock beep-codes again and this new one (5-SHORT Beeps) was not even listed.

Avoid this board and brand. I've always purchased from Asus and Gigabyte with very few issues that weren't immediately resolved. My experience with this board has put me off to ever buying from ASRock again.

Other Thoughts: I am now in the process of trying to get a replacement through ASRock as my 30-day window with Newegg for RMA/Refund expired while waiting for ASRock to ship me an updated BIOS chip. This has been the worse experience with any mobo manufacturer I've ever had. I'm about to write-off this purchase as a complete loss rather than continue to deal with ASRock anymore.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear AsRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Due to the mainboard has been released before ivy bridge processor, the BIOS update is needed to recognizing the new processor. However, we usually shipped the BIOS within 3-5 business days. Sorry for took 3 weeks to shipped and hopefully it was a onetime delay. If you have any technical questions or warranty issues please contact our Tech Support at 909-590-8308. We can assist you shortly.

Thank you

4 out of 5 eggsNice board, customer support questionable

Pros: Small board, works great. Nice features for the price. Perfect for an HTPC.

Cons: Support is questionable. The board shipped with firmware version 1.30 and 2.20 is out. ASRock only offers updates through Windows.

I am using xbmc in Linux so I can't use the update in Windows. The UEFI firmware has the ability to perform updates, so all I need are the files. Emailing support returned no reply. Tried contacting the email found in the manufacturer response here - user@asrockamerica.com - and finally got a response:

"May you please send me a copy of your invoice and a shipping address?

THANK YOU!"

After providing the information I heard nothing for 2 weeks. Sent another reply to them and got an even weirder response:

"You can only update the bios yourself if you have the sandy bridge processor."

I questioned the statement and John replies saying they only offer Windows firmware updates. So in the end I can't update the firmware. At least I am using a Sandy Bridge processor. I'd be out of luck if I was using an Ivy Bridge.

Other Thoughts: Overall the board does what it's supposed to and works really well. I hope I don't have to contact support in the future as I am unsure of how helpful they'll actually be. This is my first and last ASRock product based on this experience.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks, but slow customer support

Pros: Good feature set for such a small board.
Worked great after a BIOS upate

Cons: Old BIOS revision doesn't support IB out of the box
Manufacturer's website does not make it easy (or evidently possible) to find a binary-only release of the firmware; use Google
Customer support is slow to provide assistance
USB 3.0 controller not supported in (older?) Linux kernels

Other Thoughts: I had no access to a Sandy Bridge processor to flash an updated BIOS for Ivy, so I was left with an inoperable product out-of-the-box (not really the manufacturer's fault). I called and they took my address and said they would ship me an IC with the latest revision ASAP. Several days went by and I inquired and was told that they were "conducting inventory" and should be done soon and would send it out then. I grew tired of waiting and ended up flashing the BIOS with a Arduino+serprog-duino+flashrom.

The CS representatives seem quick to respond to reviews and to phone calls, but don't appear to be too upfront -- why not just say it would be a week before the chip would ship out?

If I never need support from the manufacturer, I'm sure I would be fine, but given some of the other reviews and their speed of delivery, I'm not sure I would purchase another ASRock product.
