3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -Review written 4 years after purchase

Cons: -see other thoughts

Other Thoughts: I own the original without revision, partnered with a 2600K i7. This mobo had serious problems. It's known online for some type of mysterious voltage regulation problem, possibly associated with droop. After a long experimental time of fruitless endeavor, when I should have thrown it in the trash, my NVidia driver upgrade for some reason made that problem disappear. It's been okay for almost a year now. I do overclock, but have noticed the wear on my performance, therefore to prevent degradation, I use conservative tweaks then continually monitor. This UEFI is quirky, don't always consider partition problems on your system drive. My Windows Boot Manager sometimes needs to "see" another cloned drive before it reappears in the boot order. UEFI recognizes the sketchy one's device ID, but won't co-operate until you use another drive in there? I don't bother with recovery images anymore. Overall I like ASRock, but it's been a love-hate relationship. I've spent too many hours shaking my head at things that were so much easier back in the day with the older stable bios, vs. this UFI required for my GPT partitions. Also. When are these mobo manufacturers EVER going to make sata connects that actually lock their cables in place? How many hours of my life have I wasted chasing that rabbit down the hole. Thanks for the memories guys, my doctor appreciates the business.

3 out of 5 eggsDied 3/30/14

Pros: Nice board while it lasted OCed well.

Cons: Was a great board while it lasted, I never had but a cheap MB ever die on me, it started to not boot always on first try for about year slowly got worse, and would not come out of sleep, then the day it died one of the fans stopped working and would not boot. Bought 6/23/11

Other Thoughts: Will try their Z77 and hope for more than 2 years for the 2500k, by then it will another leap for a all new build I am sure. If it last I will think about getting another Asrock.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board for Sandy Bridge

Pros: I only buy ASRock motherboards, last 5 boards I've bought were ASRock because they never fail me and have the right price points.

Cons: Not a single complaint on any of my ASRock motherboards.

3 out of 5 eggsDisappointed with driver support

Pros: Lots of options and value for the price.

Cons: Driver for Win 8 is lacking and the support options are limited, they don't even have their own support forums, instead they use third party sites.

Other Thoughts: Since installing Win 8 and not being able to get updated drivers for all components I've had nothing but issues. The whole point of building my PC was to keep it updated. I don't think I'm supposed to be stuck at Win 7 because they stop releasing drivers for the MOBO a couple of years after I bought it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the Windows 8, please visit the link at "http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?cat=Download&Model=Z68 Extreme4"
However, Windows 8 index drivers should work with mainboard without installing the drivers.

4 out of 5 eggsNo issues

Pros: After 2 years still ticking.

Cons: Occasionally on reboot the sata ports will renumber the drives which is a bit annoying - i run linux so as long as it finds the boot disk things are fine but once in a while i have to tell it to explicitly boot from a specific disk.
-
Could never get standby mode to work but not sure if that was an issue with linux or the mb.

Other Thoughts: No real complaints. Was thinking of updating to haswell but I think maybe I should wait for the next iteration. Maybe in 2 more years. If it last that long I'll stick with asrock else I'll probably switch.

5 out of 5 eggsSo Far So Good

Pros: * Still working (2 yrs)
* Stable 4.5ghz like nothing
* Nice easy to navigate save-a-ble Bios.
* Windows view of BIOS and basic controls.

Cons: * Almost 2 years now and it seems like every time I boot my keyboard isn't getting power. I either a) unplug and try a different port or b) reset the machine and it works fine. It's getting more and more annoying but I'm out of warranty.

Other Thoughts: * I bought a 2600k and Asrock Extreme4 back in 5/2011. With experimenting I was able to overclock it to 4.5ghz at 1.385v. Idles at 35C, Load at 62C. To this day the overclock is still running solid. Used with Arctic Silver and Zalman 9700.
* I always buy Asus, but at the time the Asus boards were out of stock and TomsHardware had just announced this board as a solid contender so I went with it. I'm hoping it lasts in the long run.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I purchased this MB after reading many reviews and seeing the vids on youtube. So far it has been trouble free and works very well. I didn't feel I needed the 77 mb

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Mobo!

Pros: This mobo has everything I need for gaming. I did some research on the chipset and there really isn't much of a difference between this one and the Z77. No point in waisting the extra dough. The Bios is very user friendly(an idiot could these Bios); much better than the outdated Gigabyte board I had with the X58 chipset. Looks great with my set up and to top it off I got the open box price at like $70 off, and it came with everything it was supposed to come with! There was even an SLI bridge that I do plan on using shortly with a couple EVGA GTX 560 Ti's. Can't beat that!

Cons: I was skeptical about the open box but all has been well so far. Installing my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 was a breeze. I haven't had one problem that others have reported with this mobo.

Other Thoughts: AZRock Z68 Extreme4 Mobo
Intel Core i5-2310 Sandy Bridge 2.9GHz
COOLER MASTER Hyper N 520
EVGA GTX 460 (1)
CORSAIR XMS3 (4 x 2GB) DDR3 1600
Kingwin Lazer 1000w PSU
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
