2 out of 5 eggsNot good for long term

Pros: Good price, fit the requirements I was looking for and was inexpensive. No problems with it while it lasted.

Cons: It died after a little over a year and I have to replace it. Doubt I will look to ASRock for motherboard options in the future.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Sorry to hear that the mainboard has malfunctioned after 1 year which’s due to nature of electronic product, it can happen.
Please trouble shooting the mainboard for below steps with known good components;
Turn the power off.
Remove the mainboard from inside computer to outside, place the mainboard on top of the empty mainboard’s box
Clear the CMOS
Test with single memory module (non-ECC, un-buffered), try with another known good memory if its same issue.
Plug monitor to onboard VGA (CPU with iGPU supported or test with VGA card)
Plug the 24 pins + 8 or 4 pins ATX power to the mainboard
Plug the computer case’s power switch to mainboard's front panel power header and try again

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy for me

Pros: Easy to install, easy to maintain, inexpensive, great for media functions, toslink output

Cons: The on-board video card is not that great. Even with HDMI out the video doesn't look right.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this board in September 2011--I have used this board for 15 months. I build a media computer using this board and I have been very happy with it. I have not had any problems with it as of yet. Along with media functions on the console, I often remote into this machine (enabled tsclient) to do other work without problem.

Build Info:
Intel Core i5-2400 (3.1ghz)
8gb RAM
2x 1TB Samsung HHDs
GeForce 9500 Video Card
TV/Cable Tuner card

4 out of 5 eggsIt does the job

Pros: Built my first gaming PC off this board. It worked after trial and error.

Cons: Trial and error: Plugged everything into the right socket and tried to boot it up and the system kept getting to the windows logo on start up then it would shut off for a few seconds then boot up again and loop that action.

It wasn't until I removed my secondary hard drive and disk drive that it would boot up. Could this be a power supply failure?? The Fan also doesn't start up with the computer it spins slowly stops then spins slowly then when I removed every thing it would do that same thing but then the fan would start once it reached the windows sign in screen...

Other Thoughts: The instructions are not user friendly they tell you all the sockets but they don't give you recommendations nor suggestions nor anything beyond the name of the socket locations on the board. You know I just remembered while typing this up what went wrong. Your small battery on the motherboard is flawed on arrival and I had to use the one from my old mobo. Not cool I overlooked that for the longest time when trouble shooting what was wrong. Egg off for dead mother board battery I don't like playing where's waldo with a new mother board it should just work and everything should be new and ready to go.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks...now

Pros: Good feature set for workstation and light gaming builds, although no USB 3.0 header is disappointing. Solid capacitors around cpu and regulators is a major plus for this cheaper board.

Cons: 6 months after build, customer had a power failure and the board refused to boot until the ram was re-seated. After every subsequent power failure the same thing happened.

Other Thoughts: 1 egg for the problem, but ASRock took care of it VERY quickly. The total RMA process took less than three weeks. Considering the amount of email exchanged and shipping time that's not too bad at all. They sent a new board and everything runs as it did before. My customer is happy and so am I.

1 out of 5 eggsEh.....

Pros: Cheap, small, works for those who just want a cheap board to put in their computer for basic stuff.

Cons: This board worked fine for a while, I bought this one because a friend suggested it to me and I was upgrading my CPU from an old Athlon X2 to a newer Intel CPU. It was a nice fit in my old case, which was just a store bought computer I was upgrading. Put it in this new case and put my heatsink on it. Which worked for a while until I started up a game one night and where I was normally getting 60 FPS locked (I have a graphics card installed) I was at 8 with a peak of 9. Changed settings to no avail. Tried another game and got 12 where I got 56 or so before. The other day this turned to 2.45 FPS.
The problem isn't persistent and can happen anywhere from startup to whenever it just feels like it. I've tested my CPU and my GPU and both seem to be fine. The problem seems like the mobo, but that will be tested soon.
Also the PCI-e x16 slot being the top slot is a bad design idea for this board. And that will be something I look at on other boards.

Other Thoughts: I realize this isn't a gaming centric motherboard, but it shouldn't have to be. If i'd have known I was going to run into these problems I would have gone with something else at the time.
The PCI-e x16 slot is just in a terrible location for those using a beefy heatsink and a graphics card. My graphics card touches the already really thin plastic clips that hold the fans in place, and if it had a backplate it would probably bend it in a bad way. It's not the cause to my problem though, i've tested that with a smaller cooler. Moving the CPU socket up just 5mm or so might have fixed the problem entirely. And locking the card in place with the fans on the heatsink is impossible without a screwdriver or something to poke the lock. Heaven forbid you get it out without almost taking out the heatsink.
I've heard ASRock has been doing pretty good with their boards, they've really let me down with this one. Sorry guys.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Would have been a good buy if it had worked.

Cons: Arrived with bent pins in the CPU socket. Returned to Newegg, only to be told they didn't cover that kind of damage. They referred me to ASRock for support.

Contacted ASRock and was told that they would charge me $50 to repair it. That, plus the cost of shipping would end up costing more than the motherboard itself.

I paid money and got nothing but a defective product to show for it with no help from any of the companies involved.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear AsRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. AsRock mainboards are fully tested to assure that they're working before shipped. Unfortunately, mainboard CPU socket pins bent is considered as physical damage which not cover the warranty refer to RMA policy "http://www.asrock.com/support/index.asp?cat=Policy". As always, we appreciate your purchase and constructive reviews are welcome. If you have any technical questions or warranty issues in the future please contact us at user@asrockamerica.com

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the job

Pros: Inexpensive. Small.

Cons: No FSB overclocking. I've been out of it for a few years, so maybe things have changed, but I can't overclock the CPU in this mobo. It can overclock the GPU, but that seems pointless since its an intel GPU.

Other Thoughts: Memory works fine as long as you follow their rules about single sided memory. Don't be deterred by the memory limitation.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, could do better on storage.

Pros: -Compatible with Ivy Bridge with a BIOS update.
-4 SATA ports. (3.0Gbps only)
-BIOS is UEFI = easy to use & plenty of options(clock, timings, etc).
-Outputs are more than enough for most people.
-Driver CD doesn't load junk unless YOU do it.

Cons: -SATA is only 3Gbps if that's important to you.

Other Thoughts: Used this in a basic-use/HTPC build paired with a Celeron. Actually holds up pretty good. Using the Celeron as an in-between until I gather money to get a new IvyBridge CPU. Pretty nice knowing that this board has some life ahead of it. Definitely get 2 sticks of RAM to enable DualChannel, it helps alot no matter what programs you're using(I'm using 2x4GB sticks).

4 out of 5 eggsGood bargain

Pros: Price, features, layout.
This was the best bang/buck for my requirements of a MB having: optical out, DVI out, and decent built-in video/audio chipsets for my HTPC build.

Cons: Have to enable high RAM speeds via BIOS since it's not on by default. Cables for lights/panel are unnecessarily long.

Other Thoughts: The board arrived with a bent corner (just the tip where the screw goes in). It was visibly creased to the point where the PCB was broken, although the box didn't have any damage. Clearly it got damaged at the manufacturer and they still shipped it. Doesn't scream quality.
Luckily the board design doesn't carry any data over that part of the board, so it doesn't impact operation of the board.
