4 out of 5 eggsHere's Hoping

Pros: Small, Inexpensive, everything you could want for a base computer.

Cons: Currently not working correctly.

Other Thoughts: I've got the previous version of this MB (A75M-HVS) in a HTPC that's been running for over a year and a half with no hiccups. I built as close to an identical system as I could to that for my mom, and have had numerous issues with reboots, glitches, ports not working and other small issues that make working with computers difficult.

Due to waiting on some parts, I missed the return through newegg window. I'm hoping ASRock will allow for an RMA directly, since I can't through Newegg. I'll lower the rating should ASRock not be prompt in their RMA process, as I think my woes are simple oversight in QA, rather than indicative of a larger problem.

2 out of 5 eggsNot for media PC

Pros: I/O options are good, plenty of speedy SATA ports. Board is stable and operates fine as long as you NEVER shut it down. I really like the APU chips for media center operation.. however

Cons: Latest bios update has been applied, still no HDMI output until the operating system is fully loaded. Meaning: If you're planning to use this in a media center you'd better pray it boots EVERY TIME or you're stuck looking at a blank screen. There's no diagnostic information or POST display during the boot process except on the VGA output - meaning if your TV does not support VGA input you have to drag out a standard PC monitor, hook up the VGA connection, fix the boot process, and then get everything put back in the entertainment center..

Other Thoughts: I'm a professional computer repair tech. Can no longer use ASRock boards of any kind in our systems due to reliability/QC issues and stupid problems like this. Do NOT plan on using the HDMI output of this unless you're in a dual monitor setup. Had another ASRock board of a different model where the HDMI output just up and died one day. Needless to say that does not make for happy customers or happy technicians... The boards are cheap, you do get what you pay for.

2 out of 5 eggsMissing part

Pros: It seems to be a good buy based on the price and the number of features.

Cons: The package missed an IO panel shield. This should really not occur. The waiting for the missing part put my work behind for a week.

Other Thoughts: Newegg is great on helping this resolved. They shipped me the missing IO panel shield so I did not need to return the whole package for an exchange. Many thanks to Jay at Newegg.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsnon-functioning motherboard.

Pros: it came in a pretty box.

Cons: After assembling pc, plug it all in, and motherboard fails to post. No display output whatsoever. removed ram, get memory fail, so I know its starting. Plugged in a video card from another pc that I know works, still nothing. rechecked all wiring, cleared cmos, attempted to start again, somehow it did, and I was able to install windows. Rebooted at the end of windows installation, and once again, no display. have been trying for four hours to get some sort of response from this board through either the onboard graphics or a separate video card. Finally got frustrated enough to call ASROCK tech support, and was told in no uncertain terms that there was going to be nothing they could do that I hadnt, rep then hung up on me without a second thought. called back, and was hung up on as soon as I mentioned the model number of the MOBO. Am using verified ram, and an AMD APU processor. Unable to update bios due to lack of display. Asrock clearly has no quality control and cares nothing for customer service

Other Thoughts: I've never had an issue with any other manufacturer over any of the 27 PCs i've built so far, but this board just makes me want to scream

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsWorks, decent features for price

Pros: The features are there.
The motherboard is still working.
The layout is pretty ideal for my build, not glaringly bad in general.
Asrock provides some nice software extras... and some not so nice ones.

Cons: Not-So-Nice Bloat -_-
Drivers have given me issue to install. At one point, they began causing bootloops, and at another BSOD.
Temperature sensors are quite a mess, not always accurate and quite vague.
CPU 4-pin fan connector is in an awk place IMO
No Individual Fan Control Using Voltage Variation; that is, you can control 4-pin PWM fans using a step system (choose a speed out of 10 and stick to it) except CPU which is 2-step... What you cant do it control a 3-pin fan. Asus motherboards have this option and it is pretty helpful.

My last con is an omition, and while they could have made this clearer before i bought it, I'm not one to take away points for what I 'wish' was included, I'm here to review what 'was' included.

Other Thoughts: If i needed the same specs for a motherboard and it came down to brand and price, I think Id choose this again.
I guess thats whats important.
Still, drivers could have been better and this is by no means comparable to a more expensive Asus alternative, barring price.

Oh, my A8-3850 flies on this.

1 out of 5 eggsThis has to be the worst motherboard I have ever purchased

Pros: When it was working it was a decent product.

Cons: I can not explain the amount of frustration I have had with this board. I currently was using this board for a HTPC build with 9tb of data and a ssd for the main os.

The first board I had I needed to get replaced as when I went to power on the PC one of the capacitors literally went up in flames with smoke pouring out of the top of my case. Thank goodness none of my other components such as my graphics card was damaged.

I of course RMA'd the motherboard and received a replacement. The replacement motherboard worked for a while, but after about 2 months decided that it wanted to stop working and will not post. I have tested all of the other components and it is indeed this motherboard. I am now even debating RMA'ing this again as I really don't know if it is even worth the hassle.

This was my first experience with this company as I usually buy from more well known brands, but this will be my last purchase. I feel like I wasted the money spent...

Other Thoughts: If I could give this 0 eggs it would have it....

Manufacturer Response:

Dear AsRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Sorry to hear that the second mainboard has faulty after 2 months of using which due to nature of electronic product, it can happen. Please trouble shooting the mainboard for below steps with known good components; remove the mainboard from inside computer to outside. Place the mainboard on empty mainboard box, clear the CMOS, reseat the CPU with heatsink fan as well, inserts 1 memory module only in A1 slot, Onboard Video, power supply with connecting 24 pins + 8 or 4 pins ATX power to the mainboard, plug the computer case’s power switch to mainboard's front panel header and try again. If still having same issues please contact our tech support at 909-590-8308. We can assist you shortly.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent board.

Pros: Good compatibility, no problem or defects, good feature support.

Cons: Dual graphics requires ASRock drivers.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this for a media PC for use with a spare Radeon I had lying around (an XFX 6570) It's done it's job well. No solid complaints. You need to use ASRock's drivers to for Dual Graphics, according to all documentation, and this is under Windows 7. Using AMD drivers, or in Windows 8 I haven't been able to tell if dual graphics is working, as I don't have a baseline to compare performance against. It was however, a fun build in a custom, modded case.

1 out of 5 eggsRAID caused freeze at boot

Pros: When it worked, it did OK. Reasonably fast boot and operation.

Cons: When I set up the included storage controller in a RAID 0 configuration with my two SSDs, the BIOS stopped booting or accepting input. I could access the RAID configuration utility, but even after I removed the array, the problem continued. I could not get into the BIOS menu to disable RAID altogether; I could not access the boot menu to install an OS. After I cleared CMOS using the jumper, video input quit working. Removing the battery itself did not help this, either. RMA'd.

Other Thoughts: This is the second ASRock motherboard I have purchased that has failed within two days. I should have learned my lesson the first time.
