2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: ASRock software is useful and user friendly. UEFI BIOS is easy to navigate.

Cons: I have had nothing but trouble since purchasing this motherboard. I plugged in my trusty USB which has always worked, into the front ports and since then none of my front ports are functioning, but the USB is. 5/10 times I boot up, no video output and a Dr. Debug code thats different each time, requiring me to reset my BIOS a few times. Clean install of Windows 7 working fine, shut it down at night, turned it on in the morning and was very quick to finish "Starting Windows" and then for about 15 minutes its a black screen. ASRock extreme tuner sometimes thinks the motherboard isn't supported and closes. VRM heatsinks have poor cooling and heat up extremely easy after a few months of owning the board.

Other Thoughts: Save yourself from the hours of fixing the board and spend a bit more on a more quality motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Motherboard

Pros: Easy installation and Easy Over-Clocking. I truly love this Motherboard except for the 970 Chipset. There are plenty of fan headers and USB 2.0 Headers which is nice if You would like more then 2 on the front as well as 1 3.0 USB header. XMP works great on this Motherboard as well. There are several Auto Overclocking Features both at boot and in the BIOS plus You can still do it the manual way.

Cons: The only gripe I have and all AMD 970 chipsets except for the most expensive Motherboards have this problem is that both the first and second PCIe X16 slots run at X8 mode when using SLI or Crossfire. At first I picked up a couple of EVGA GTX 275's cheap on bay but I wasn't happy with performance of SLI so I scored a Nvidia GTX 295 Dual GPU so that I could run SLI just using the first PCIe slot in X16 and what a difference plus adding a Kingston HyperX 240 GB ssd really helped as well.

Other Thoughts: My gaming rig is close to done. My next Gaming Motherboard will be the ASRock 990 Extreme 6 so I can have X16 mode in both slots when I pick-up another GTX 295 for Quad SLI and that board also has a M.2 slot so a PCIe ssd can run at 32 GB/s (hello Kingston HyperX Predator M.2 ssd). I also will be running 1866 MHz Kingston HyperX Predator 8GB x 4 memory chips.

2 out of 5 eggsWorst board ever got

Pros: Full board

Cons: North & South Bridge overheats, when that does happen, LAN stops working. No proper support for fx 6300 and above.

Other Thoughts: Will need good ventilation, and fans that will cover, north and south bridge.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Due to power design, AMD platform generates more heat, especially with FX series CPU. However, these chipset are designed to be tolerating for heat as well.
Beside, the LAN should not be affecting the heat since its using separated chipset (Realtek) on different location.
Please cechek if LAN LED lights are on.
Check the router and cable.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat MB for the price and needs

Pros: Plenty of USB ports
USB 3.0 header
Onboard sound
Lots of memory capacity
AM3+ CPU
Easy setup

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I have been looking at this board for several months and compared with others. I finally purchased along with an FX8320, 256gb SSD 16gb ram and a used 5750 Sapphire video card; this is a lightening compared to my ancient desk. So far all is well, I have not setup the onboard sound yet or tried overclocking. The stock setup is fine for now.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's stable but not a great performer

Pros: Inexpensive
Supports AM3+ CPU

Cons: On board sound issues
The board that I have gives awful performance with AMD FX 8350 and nVidia GTX 970 compared to my intel i7 machine.

Other Thoughts: When I install my nVidia gtx 970 in my intel i7 sandy bridge cpu machine, I get min fps of 45 with no overclock. When it is installed in this mobo, I get min fps of 32. With overclocking, I can get a min fps of 37. Also, I needed to install a pcie sound card to get stable sound.

This motherboard is a poor performer but it does run stable even with mild overclocking.

2 out of 5 eggsWhen it decides to work.

Pros: The price was fair for the features and what I thought was good quality since all the other ASROCK motherboards worked great and still do to this day.

Cons: So I got the motherboard home and I had to wait to put things together due to other life things. I put it together outside the case and it all worked fine. So I then put it in the case worked fine. I then went to reboot it and it hung a bit then it fixed itself somehow. I then decided to put Windows OS on it worked for a day and shut off randomly. I figure it needed BIOS update newer chip older board. I updated the BIOS worked great for an hour then it cut off again I can no longer get it to come on unless I let it sit without have power going to the power supply. This machine was not meant to be a daily runner but, I did need it to run for me. I also noticed the locking clip for the second PCI had been broken not sure how this happened since I have had no need to use that slot.

Other Thoughts: I sure hope I can get this resolved due to the fact I have really like ASROCK for many years now.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
Turn the power off, clear the CMOS.
Test with single memory module.

2 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: Works I guess,
Cheap

Cons: Throttles my 8 core cpu at stock frequencies, because despite the fact it says 8-core cpu ready right on the box, it doesn't have the right phase for my fx-8350, also it finally reached the tipping point because the USB internal hub died.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the throttling issue, please install a CPU cooler with a top-down blowing design to avoid overheating the area, especially CPU FX series with 125W and above.
Or install the chassis fan top of VRM (MOSFET) area instead.

Below link CPU models (indicate with *) that required top-down blowing fan, please visit link below.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Mobo!

Pros: The board is a solid. It was easy to build with and the ports were pretty intuitively placed. The on-board POST code display is a welcome edition on this budget friendly board, as are the power and reset buttons. I used this board with an AMD FX 8120 cpu and 8 GB of G-Skill Ares RAM. I've had no issues yet. It was easy to update the BIOS and install Windows 7.

Cons: The SATA ports are are hard to get at if you have a long graphics card in the top PCI 2.0 x16 slot. Equally awkward is running the HD audio connector right next to the top PCI Express x1 slot.

Other Thoughts: Overall, solid board. Love it. Will probably use again when building budget rigs.

2 out of 5 eggsNot the best.

Pros: The layout of the SATA ports are totally unreachable with a GPU installed, but since they are sideways they aren't actually blocked from use as long as you plug all your SATA stuff in beforehand.

Looks neat I guess.

Cons: While the SATA ports are not rendered unusable by a GPU, they do make adding any sort of drive a lot more complicated, as you would have to remove the video card each time to change the connections.

The connections are all very flimsy. It feels like you are going to snap the board in half when installing RAM, and unplugging cables feels like you are about to take the entire port with you.

Within 2 weeks of me using this board, one of the SATA connections failed.I thought my brand new SSD was dying as I was getting hangups and slowdowns, and eventually I couldn't boot from the drive at all. However, I simply removed my video card, unplugged the SSD from one SATA port into another, and it worked perfectly again. Luckily I only need 3 at the moment, but it sucks to feel limited now that one doesn't function. Additionally, I'm worried ports may continue to fail.

One of the connectors for the front panel is located really awkwardly, away from everything else. Made cable management rough.

Other Thoughts: Debating on replacing it to see if it was a one-time thing or a common problem with this model. Kind of don't want to deal with it though.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsJust out of warranty

Pros: Good value for AM3+ Was running a AMD 8230 CPU, Corsair H90 cooler, 16 GB Corsair Vengence 1866 Mhz memory, large Fractal case and Asus GeForce GT 640, fanless graphics card.

Cons: After 13 months of perfect operation, motherboard would lock up in POST. Monitor would show splash screen with all the selections, but wouldn't respond to any keyboard inputs. Dr Debug code "99" (PCIe problem). Troubleshot all components, no luck. Board was out of warranty, so purchased Asus mobo with 990 chipset. Now everything is ops normal.

Other Thoughts: IMHO, marginal board for the AMD 8230.
