4 out of 5 eggsAwesome When Working

Pros: I upgraded from an i5-2310 on an ASRock P67 to this build, an ASRock 970 with an AMD 8350 and have been very impressed with the performance gains, I'm running Windows 7 and a 7200 RPM HDD mind you. The boot times are excellent, usually under 20 seconds with X-Fast Boot and only 30 seconds with the standard boot enabled. I'd highly recommend this board to any enthusiast who enjoys gaming.

Cons: With all good things must come the bad. By default this board comes with no RTFS support, so no Windows 8/8.1 (not much of a loss if you ask me) or 10 (the former applied doubly so) so make an update flash handy if you are going to a new OS. I have had this board since January 2016 (now May 2016) and have started to have some fairly obnoxious, but still nominal problems, such as boot hanging when a gaming mouse is plugged in. After reading the ASRock forums and its 3rd Party counter parts I can only ascertain that the band-aid on a broken leg methodology is available for the moment and differs from case to case. In mine, I need to unplug my mouse and keyboard until after the machine clears POST or it will take a long time to complete its boot-up. I consider this to be a minor inconvenience as I have a USB hub on my desk but if I had to continually climb down to do this it wouldn't be so Okay. Even after updating my BIOS to current these problems persist, albeit with less consistency. Hopefully these problems will be figured out by ASRock in the near future (fingers crossed).

Other Thoughts: Otherwise a very nice and easy to work with motherboard. Hope this helps anyone interested.

5 out of 5 eggsBought for a build 4 years ago, heard no complaints

Pros: Easy enough for a beginner to assemble, with features that a pro will appreciate
Debug LED is nice, pointed me to the RAM right away (wasn't seated right)
Clear CMOS button is handy in a pinch
I haven't heard any complaints from my buddy I built a nice gaming rig for, except the GPU going out. I did warn him about overclocking it...

Cons: Doesn't assemble itself in the case

Other Thoughts: I bought one 4 years ago, so this was the model before Windows 8. There's only a couple differences I see between this model and the one I bought though, such as UEFI BIOS. I decided one day to build a nice rig, here's what I ended up with:
This Mobo
FX 6350 Black OC to 4.4 GHz
Radeon HD 6950 (still a nice card to this day)

2 out of 5 eggsNot Complete

Pros: Nice board

Cons: Wish I could use it. Missing all mounting hardware. Never bought a board missing hardware before.

Other Thoughts: Do not know if I would recommend it because I waited all this time for my components and now have to wait longer.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear John,

Thank you for purchase and review.
The mounting standoff and screws should be provided by chassis but not the mainboard.
Please visit mainboard's specification link below under accessories section to check mainboard's Package Contents.

1 out of 5 eggsNo good with 8 core FX processors, despite what you read here

Pros: Probably fine with other CPUs.

Cons: Reading these reviews made me think the fx-8320 would work well with this board. It does not. If you think yours is working great, load the Asrock utility and prime95. you'll see the multiplier drop to 7x to keep the weak VRMs from overheating. That translates to FPS drops in heavy gaming. Thanks to the mail-in-rebate, I can't even return this. Unless Asrock does something (I emailed them about it) this board is useless to me.

Other Thoughts: Will update when if I hear from Asrock.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Chris,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Due to power design, AMD platform generates more heat.
Please allow better air circulation inside the chassis including VRM area (consider installing fan top of that).

1 out of 5 eggsMotherboard Would Not Report Basic Sensor Data - Stay Away From

Pros: - Great price from Newegg.
- Works with AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition CPU.
- Works with G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL
- Hyper Cooler 212 EVO fits with no interference with RAM in any slots.
- Clear CMOS button on back side is a great feature.

Cons: - Shows motherboard and CPU temperature as N/A in BIOS or any other program I run.
- Shows 0.00 for the VCore, +12, and +5 voltages. +3 voltage is way off from what I tested with a multimeter.
- 1st SATA port is blocked by the 2nd video card. Poor design (Other 4 are 90 degrees except the 1st one which is straight out).
- Blocked SATA port would require a "left hand" SATA cable to get past video card.
- Motherboard caused my power supply to produce "coil ring". My original board never had this issue.
- Not enough fan power connections. Seems to only have enough for 4 case fans and 2 CPU fan connections.
- BIOS settings are not clear and manual does not help much.
- Customer support is slow / non-existent. Had to send a second e-mail to get a response.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this motherboard and 8GB of G.SKILL RAM to replace my older ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard which has been working great since I purchased it 8 or so years ago. I only upgraded because I wanted to get a little more life out of my system before building a new rig, and wanted to move up to SATA 3 and USB 3.0. Shipping was quick from Newegg and I found the price to be great, but unfortunately you get what you pay for. Right from the start the CPU and MB temperatures reported N/A and the voltages either did not report or were way off. This makes it impossible to monitor the system or try any type of overclocking. My power supply also starting putting out a very high pitched squeal which I later found out to be called "coil ring". I tired everything I could think of from resetting the CMOS, moving the RAM around or running a single stick, to installing earlier BIOS versions, and messing with just about everything I could in the BIOS (unlocking "extra" cores was disabled). Nothing fixed the problem. Tech support was slow to get back to me. I waited 4 days and then sent a second email which took an additional day to get back to me, If I hadn't sent a second e-mail I feel I would not have heard back from them. They recommended resetting the CMOS (Which I already had done) and then after that didn't work, returning it to my vendor.

Overall I should have listened to the reviews about the motherboard being DOA or not working properly. I should have also spent the money for a better reviewed motherboard. Being an older overall system I am just going to return the components I purchased and go back to my time tested motherboard and RAM until I can save the money for a brand new system. Replacing the motherboard and playing the game of will it work or will it not work is not worth my time, being this is my everyday system. Hope this review helps someone out.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Joseph,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please clear the CMOS to check if its address the issue.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Linux compatible, lots of options for connections including usb3.0 and Firewire. Decent audio chip. Bios very easy to use. Dr. Debug very useful, had a ram module go bad and code 54 came up at post and pointed me in the right direction quickly. Writing this through Ubuntu right now. 4350Fx set at 4.4 and Kingston value ram at 1680. Very stable and cool running. Nvidia 650ti with Nvidia drivers and supend is supported. In daily use for general computing for over a year and perfect for that.

Cons: X-boost should not lower ram speed, but it does, better to use manual settings. Works better with two ram modules, not four as chipset will lower speed with four.

Other Thoughts: Would buy another if I needed another board. Highly recommend memtest at booting to check settings when doing setup.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked great until sound stopped working

Pros: Cost/performance

Cons: The board didn't like the old OCZ DDR3 modules I had, either incompatible or the modules failed. Not worth the trouble to tear down the system and return the board for the sound. Hopefuly nothing else fails, but had to spend $40 for sound card.

Other Thoughts: Sound was flakey at the beginning, used the Win 10 64 bit drivers from ASRock site and no more sound no matter what I tried, even rolling back drivers did not help.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Dana,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the memory, please visit link below for supported memory for reference.
For the audio issue, please clear the CMOS.
Load the BIOS setting default.
Check the playback sound (Control Panel) has set to appropriate output.
Download and install the audio driver at link below.

5 out of 5 eggs5 years strong

Pros: Bought this in 2011, and it still works great. Ran my Phenom II X4, and now runs my FX 8350. BIOS is easy to look at, and updating it to handle the new CPU was super easy. Have not tried overclocking.

Cons: I do wish there was another connection for a front panel fan, located on the East side of the motherboard. It only has one, and I would have to buy a case fan with an extra long cable to either reach the top North mobo fan connector, or the South one. Also the front panel headphone and stereo connection is located all the way on the West side of the mobo. A little inconvenient if you decide to us a non-USB headset or stereo in the front. I disconnected mine, as it was the only cable to run across my mobo awkwardly.

Other Thoughts: In my case, this was a reliable and affordable motherboard. Deserves the 5 eggs after almost 5 years of use.
