2 out of 5 eggsNot the best.

Pros: The layout of the SATA ports are totally unreachable with a GPU installed, but since they are sideways they aren't actually blocked from use as long as you plug all your SATA stuff in beforehand.

Looks neat I guess.

Cons: While the SATA ports are not rendered unusable by a GPU, they do make adding any sort of drive a lot more complicated, as you would have to remove the video card each time to change the connections.

The connections are all very flimsy. It feels like you are going to snap the board in half when installing RAM, and unplugging cables feels like you are about to take the entire port with you.

Within 2 weeks of me using this board, one of the SATA connections failed.I thought my brand new SSD was dying as I was getting hangups and slowdowns, and eventually I couldn't boot from the drive at all. However, I simply removed my video card, unplugged the SSD from one SATA port into another, and it worked perfectly again. Luckily I only need 3 at the moment, but it sucks to feel limited now that one doesn't function. Additionally, I'm worried ports may continue to fail.

One of the connectors for the front panel is located really awkwardly, away from everything else. Made cable management rough.

Other Thoughts: Debating on replacing it to see if it was a one-time thing or a common problem with this model. Kind of don't want to deal with it though.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsJust out of warranty

Pros: Good value for AM3+ Was running a AMD 8230 CPU, Corsair H90 cooler, 16 GB Corsair Vengence 1866 Mhz memory, large Fractal case and Asus GeForce GT 640, fanless graphics card.

Cons: After 13 months of perfect operation, motherboard would lock up in POST. Monitor would show splash screen with all the selections, but wouldn't respond to any keyboard inputs. Dr Debug code "99" (PCIe problem). Troubleshot all components, no luck. Board was out of warranty, so purchased Asus mobo with 990 chipset. Now everything is ops normal.

Other Thoughts: IMHO, marginal board for the AMD 8230.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst MB ever

Pros: Good layout, color scheme, debug led and power button

Cons: Worked fine with my 970 for 3 months, then... everything changed.
First audio chip stopped working, and I started to notice some USB strange errors, 5 moths later the mobo died, I cleared CMOS, tried with other pair of memory, just one stick of memory but this piece of .... just don´t do anything.

Other Thoughts: Go for another brand.

3 out of 5 eggsnot impressed

Pros: will run 8 cores and has an easy bios set up.

Cons: this mobo will not stay stable at clock speeds no matter what i do. this is not what i imagined ....i had to down clock the FX-8320 and down voltage it until it stablelized..not happy with my first Asrok and will never purchase or recommend it to any one....

Other Thoughts: I do not recommend Asrok for anyone...spend your money else where...my first and last Asrok mobo they need to rewrite the chart of supported cpu's to reflect real life experiences......NOT A GOOD COMPANY!

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing!

Pros: I have been using this in my very first build along with an AMD FX-8350 and have had ZERO problems. If you were worried about using an 8-core processor with this board, don't fret any longer. This can easily handle it.

Cons: Not a 990 chipset

1 out of 5 eggsOkay While it Lasted

Pros: Got my First build started and running for about a month.

Cons: The CMOS on this baby gave up right after the 30 day warranty.

Other Thoughts: The hyper 212 heatsink didn't fit like it was supposed to.
Fits awkwardly in my case as well. (not sure who is at fault there)

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

5 out of 5 eggsGood for its price

Pros: Does the job, minimal problems so far
fancy box
pci express lock-ins are cool

Cons: audio inputs and outputs sometimes drop out for a split second, but I'm looking into that.

Other Thoughts: Picked this up for ~70$ and everything works just fine, other than the one con I mentioned above, it's barely noticeable, and other than that, it's great overall. I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for something within this price range.

Some of sata ports are stacked on top of each other instead of being side by side, so you should consider if you have enough room to weasel your sata cables in.
