5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it should

Pros: Runs what and how it should. It is running 16GB ram, i5 2500k overclocked to 4.7ghz at 30c idle 55c max, 2 570s in SLI, and 2 1TB hard drives witch water cooling on the CPU.

Worked out of the box. no hic-ups.

Looks great, it just has a rugged mean look to it with the heatsinks for the NB/SB/everything it came with. I love it!

Cons: NONE

5 out of 5 eggsGood bang for the buck

Pros: Was up and running within an hour. No problems and fast.

Cons: Had a problem with the ram seating in this motherboard. 1/3 was not working and would not post. I had to go into the bios and change the output from "AUTO" to 1.5V standard then reseat the RAM into slots 2 and 4 for dual-channeled useage. It then posted and booted without problems. I'm still unsure if 1/3 would work. I don't even want to touch it.

4 out of 5 eggsGood board.

Pros: Looks cool. Good heatsinks. good I/O ports, LOTS of SATA ports.

Cons: Came DOA, but that happens, and I RMA'd it. Good board.

Other Thoughts: I would not hesitate to buy from ASRock again. They are becoming more and mroe competitive.

2 out of 5 eggsNot the good choice

Pros: Works for the most part (for now)
Could be worse problems I guess
Gave me worst system build experience
Looks kind of nice
Mmm...... that's all I got

Cons: One of the worst new system experiences (out of 30+ builts).
First problem: I tried 2 different USB mouse and both had problems navigating UEFI BIOS (worked fine on another new built based on A**S Z68 motherboard) with Logi***ch one it was just jumping upward vertically like it had seizure).
After installing Windows 7 on M4 SSD and updating all drivers, files, etc. MB switched mode to IDE for some reason after one of the boots, going back to AHCI in BIOS left me with unbootable system, had to waste another 3 hours to repeat all of the processes, good thing installing system took like 10 minutes and then endless restarts to install rest of the stuff.
The XFast software (both USB AND especially LAN) is so HORRIBLE I can't find words bad enough to describe it, good thing on second OS reinstall I was smart to avoid installing it.

Other Thoughts: After paying almost $200 i would expect better quality and YET I got better from A**s with almost half the price.
After searching online I found that it has problems with USB hardware working in UEFI BIOS and at boot and even though ASRock lists that 1.3 BIOS "FIXES" USB Function problems and it did nothing for me.
I was also dazzled as to why they didn't include RAID for Marvell Controller which would make sense for 2 ports that it hadles. Instead they offer raid on 4+2 Intel Controller which can work in AHCI OR raid ONLY and since I have too many drives that need AHCI or can't run in raid, I can't set up raid 0 with my other 2 sata drives since there's no raid on separate controller and with using intel one I loose 4 additional ports.
I mean it would make sense to set up 2 ports controller for raid since it requires two drives minimum and that's how many people usually use but NO...Also they recommend not to use Marvell for boot drives, so to me it's almost worthless.

4 out of 5 eggsGood experience.

Pros: Great feature set. Nice BIOS features Makes overclocking a breeze. Nice placement of PCIe slots for 2 vid cards.
Nice touch for having a power and a reset button right on the board as well as an accessible CMOS reset button on the output panel .
Installed and up and running using supplied install disk with no hangups at all.
Running almost continuously now for 10 days. Have my i5 overclocked at 4.2GHz (a one click process) with no problems.

Cons: umm.... was a little bloat ware on the install disk.. no biggie..

I really had no problems at all with the install and the mobo is functioning great so I have no negatives to report.

Other Thoughts: Got a great deal on it as well.. (sorry newegg.)

4 out of 5 eggsA good board

Pros: Purchased mine about 2 months ago from a local retailer as I needed an immediate replacement I couldn't wait on delivery (sorry newegg) I paired the board with a 2600k and 16 gigs of g.skill. It overclocks well, the bridges even stay within reasonable temps which is something I'm not used to seeing on my intel boards. I've been building my own rigs for a long time now, I have not been this happy with a board since socket 478 was the standard.
DO get a small ssd to make use of the rapid storage caching. Or if you have the means get a larger ssd for a boot drive. I have no experienced any problems outside of asrock having outdated drivers on their site causing me to go hunting. (this is something you just get used to when you build your own machines though)
Also it has shown to be very quick at video conversion (same cpu/ram was on previous board conversion time has been nearly cut in half though)

Cons: Short list of fully supported memory.
Asrock has outdated drivers for the intel 3000hd that causes bluescreens with certain power plans in windows 7. You'll need to grab the updated driver directly from intel.
Not a 'beginner' board

Other Thoughts: Setup was complicated mildly by having to read a memory dump in windbg then driver hunting, this cost the 1 egg,

DO get a small ssd to make use of the rapid storage caching. Or if you have the means get a larger ssd for a boot drive.

Outside of that I have had no complaints about this board. It has functioned well for Gaming, Video editing/conversion (it's studly at this if you take the time to set it up properly)

if this is your first personal build I would go with the MSI Z68A-G43 instead. It's a bit cheaper but covers all the same basics, and MSI live update is pretty good at handling driver problems for you.

5 out of 5 eggsASROCK Z68 EXTREME4

Pros: Only had the system up and running for about a month now. Had no trouble installing the board. The UEFI is great. Overclocking is easy. There is even a one click ( Turbo 50 ) overclocking option. This board is less expensive than a couple of other name brand boards of similar quality ( at the time of my purchase - 12/2011 ). I am hoping for lasting quality and reliability. Only time will be able to tell for this one.

Cons: None, so far.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Board...while it worked

Pros: Great board while it worked.
Had all the features on it that were needed.

Cons: Asrock as a company has terrible support

Other Thoughts: Bought this back in October of 2011. Board worked great out of the box but am now having issues with it. Reported the issue initially to Asrock and I received the "cookie cutter email" about 18 hours later. I replied to that email explaining that none of these issues would fix the problem (not to mention in my original ticket I explained I tried all this) to no avail. This is close to my 50th computer build and I feel I am pretty competent resolving issues. It is now 36 hours since that reply and I have not heard back from the company. This will be the last Asrock product I buy.
