5 out of 5 eggsAwesome board for Linux

Pros: Everything seems to work with Linux out of the box (Ubuntu 12.04). This includes firewire, sound, gigabit ethernet, ... SATA3 is insanely fast with a 6GB/s SSD. Lots of expansion capability, includes all of the cables, etc. that you need. User manual with header and connector diagrams VERY helpful.

Cons: None yet!

Other Thoughts: Ubuntu was great, had an existing install on the SSD, swapped motherboards to the ASRock and on first boot I was looking at a login prompt in under 10 seconds! No Windows Activation annoyance or installing new drivers, thank you very much. After getting away from building computers for a while, ASRock Extreme3 and Extreme4 boards have made system building a piece of cake.

Other bits:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz
Crucial Ballistix 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC SSD

3 out of 5 eggsCODE 55, READ ME

Pros: 3 stars, because I'm still getting it to work.
If you have a Ivy Bridge processor, you have to either
1. Get a friends Sandy Bridge processor and update the bios
or
2. Call their tech support phone number and they will send you an updated bios chip. (you replace it using pliers).

The call went VERY FAST...Less than 8 minutes I was done..and they sent notification that I would receive my bios-chip in the mail soon.

Cons: I can't talk about any yet.

Other Thoughts: I will try to update this review when I get everything installed.

1 out of 5 eggsThis MotherBoard Was A Disgrace

Pros: good features
the performance at first was great when it was working

Cons: -Worst motherboard i,ve ever bought unlike the asus mother board i bought.
-Had so many bios error while installing and the tech support was terrible at solving it then i had to do some thinking and i solved out the problem myself.
-The material this board was made on is terrible. The cpu socket pins were bent once i took them out. So bad compared to the Asus mother board i have

-read my other thoughts about it explains everything.

Other Thoughts: I bought this product from @mazon since it was cheaper but WHATEVER YOU DO DON,T BUY THIS MOTHERBOARD. MY MOTHER BOARD DIED AFTER 2 WEEKS BECAUSE WHEN I WAS ON MY PC JUST WATCHING A MOVIE IT SHUT OFF AND THEN WHEN I OPENED UP EVERY THING TO CHECK IF TH PARTS WERE DEFECTIVE I FOUND OUT THE CPU SOCKET WAS BENT EVEN THOU I DID,NT TOUCH IT. I CONTACTED ASROCK ABOUT IT THEY WERE LIKE ITS MY FAULT AND THEY THINK IT WAS A PHYSICAL DAMAGE DONE BY ME. IT IS SUCH A BAD BOARD UNLIKE MY ASUS WHICH IS STILL DOING SO MUCH BETTER EVEN THOU IT HAS BEING 4 YEARS. DON,T BUY THIS BOARD OR ELSE YOU ARE GONNA SUFFER THE WAIT FOR LIKE 2 WEEK JUST LIKE ME TO GET A REPLACEMENT. ALSO THE CUSTOMER CARE IS TERRIBLE. THEY ARE,NT WILLING TO LISTEN TO YOUR REASONS AND THEY JUST WANT TO STICK TO THEIRS. SO I REPEAT DON,T BUY THIS BUY THE ASUS MOTHER BOARD WAS MUCH BETTER THEN THIS.

1 out of 5 eggsVery poor RMA quality control and support

Pros: Board has a great feature set. Bought it due to the number of good reviews and the bang for the buck the board seemed to deliver. Nice USB 3.0 adapter.

Cons: From day 1 my computer would never wake from sleep (no overclocking--everything stock). Upgraded the BIOS at least 3 times to newer versions each time hoping the new BIOS revision would fix this issue, but it never got fixed. Finally after a number of months the board just died. RMAd the board, and that's where it all went downhill (see Other Thoughts).

Other Thoughts: Board died--sent it in and about 2 weeks later I got a micro ITX board back from ASRock as a replacement! Sent that back and finally got a true replacement. Took it out of the package, installed it, flipped the switch and--POOF--smoke and sparks near the CPU. Took everything apart, and found about 8-10 bent CPU pins in three different locations. I did NOT bend these pins, but shame on me for not checking before installing. Sent an email back to ASRock, and they denied allowing me to return the MB, telling me that I had caused the damage. Anyway, argued with ASRock for about 2 months and they were adamant I was out of luck. Finally got a call one night from the tech who inspected the board (at least that's what he claimed on the phone), and he was very apologetic and told me not to worry--they would take care of everything. Got a replacement and after installing it I found out the bent pin issue had fried my PSU, CPU, and hard drive. Will never buy from ASRock again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear AsRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for that’s mistakenly sent the Micro ITX mainboard. For the RMA mainboard, we always stress test the returning mainboard to assure working fine before shipped and cover the CPU socket with CAP to avoid damage the pins. As the knowledge, CPU socket bent pins would not burn the PSU and/or HDD since mainboard not providing the power as power supply. As always, we appreciate your purchase and constructive reviews are welcome. If you have any technical questions or warranty issues in the future please contact us at user@asrockamerica.com
