4 out of 5 eggsFinally Stable

Pros: My father's motherboard failed in his HP Pavilion Slimline and I scoffed at the $75 price tag for an identical replacement board on online auction sites. My Dad's over 70 years old and doesn't plan to buy a new machine... ever. For less money, this NEW motherboard put life into my Dad's machine. Oddly enough, EVERYTHING, including the HP headers fit perfectly except the power cable (see other thoughts) and I now have my Dad running dual monitors (which together make one HD monitor, but that's another story).

Cons: - I thought by reading reviews purchasing a 4-pin 70mm CPU fan or aftermarket heatsink/fan wouldn't be a problem to dial back the full-speed jet fan going on by default. This was a HUGE chore and ultimately a design flaw imho. Given the era this motherboard is built for, the CPU fan connector should have been 3-pin for the stock fans.
- Windows 7 was highly unstable (random power offs during Windows update) until I installed the AHCI driver on the disc. Everything was smooth sailing afterward.
- DVI-D? Seriously? OK, make the signal digital but at least give as a DVI-I connector so we can plugin the converters for the old monitors.

Other Thoughts: The 24-pin ATX power cable was too short, but I easily found and an extension on newegg for less than $5. I tossed in a cheap 128gb SSD while I was at it. If I can find one at a reasonable price I might drop in a low-profile video card as well. All in all, despite a few minor nuances, there's nothing here to deter anyone from purchasing this motherboard.

4 out of 5 eggsASRock Rocks!

Pros: Works out of the box. Thought my previous motherboard was shot turned out it was just my videocard that was defective. Bought a dud with bad support so had to live with it.

Plenty of SATA ports would be nice to have sata 3 ports, but I use this computer for light office duties, and for home related activities and surfing. Speed was not what I was looking for only reliability. Surprised, it lasted 3 months. I might do a review again if I'm not happy.

My old motherboard only had two sata ports, and limited me. Worked great but I thought it was defective. I bought another videocard and build another rig out of it.

BIOS has so many options some that I might never use. The startup GUI is a nice touch. I wasn't expecting much but was surprised with the BIOS options.

Cons: Has one of those pins to reset the bios. Has not seen that for many years. I wouldn't really care except its just in an awkward space by the pci express slot.

I had to turn over my rig a couple of times to get the pin. In this price range I was pleasantly surprised. Worried that a cap might get blown, but if it does maybe I can find another motherboard in a few years on the internet

Other Thoughts: AM2 boards are tough to find if you have an option to find a another board with ddr2 support for more go for it otherwise I would roll the dice and go with this.

Otherwise search the internet and auction sites for used boards and good luck.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Micro Board

Pros: This motherboard has been stable since day one of its installation and has produced no errors of any kind. In addition to being well-adjusted error wise, it has had no compatibility issues. I have not attempted overclocking because the board is serving as a network storage / media server / mail server / web server and high performance is not an issue. Handles all tasks admirably. Cool'n'quiet tools and Powersaver work as intended.

Cons: The layout on the board is cramped and there is no fire-wire port that I could discern from the documentation or the board itself. No support for USB 3.0

3 out of 5 eggsPCmadeez

Pros: cost effective

Cons: I have purchased two of these boards and the bought have the same problem. They will not boot with two sticks of 2gigs each of PC2-6400 (800mhz) or two sticks of 2 gigs each of PC2- 1066 mhz. One stick of either works fine.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent for what it is.

Pros: Nice layout on the board. Went from a burning out Asus Crosshair to this board - everything fits my components, instructions are easy to follow. Case hook up was a breeze! Turned the system on with a previous Windows 7 install and it immediately ran with no hassle whatsoever! I was taken aback by that. I was honestly expecting a windows re-installation, so I prepped for that. But, lo and behold, no need!

Cons: Only two RAM slots and not enough room for an aftermarket CPU cooler - it hits the RAM, so back to stock. I was using the ARCTIC Alpine 64 Pro Rev. 2 CPU Cooler - AMD, Supports Multiple Sockets 92mm PWM Fan at 23dBA, or N82E16835186035.

Other Thoughts: Overall great board. Now, first and foremost I am going to say this: by looking at this board, and while ASRock is advertising overclocking, this is DEFINITELY NOT an overclocking board. This board is something that will probably treat you good out of the box as long as you don't "tweak around." The lack of heatsinks and aftermarket fan clearance are sure signs of its inabilities for overclocking.

It was a quick install, everything was very straight forward. I feel like I am getting my money out of it.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA; RMA; DOA again..

Pros: Flexible socket type, good bang for buck.

Cons: DOA. Ran through several bread board tests, all parts confirmed good, but board wouldn't post. RMA, got the replacement board, it's also DOA, won't post. Wish I would've written down the SN before RMA, as it's possible (I feel likely) that they just repackaged the mobo and sent the same one back, but regardless, two DOA boards. I'll never buy ASRock again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Sorry to hear the second mainboard having same issue (DOA).
Please check other components (CPU, memory) that they are working properly.

Trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
Unplug the ATX power, remove all components from mainboard.
Remove the mainboard from chassis, place it on mainboard’s box
Clear the CMOS.
Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan
Test with single memory module (non-ECC, un-buffered)
Test with onboard VGA
Plug the 24 pins + 4 pins ATX power
Plug the chassis power switch to mainboard, and try again

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked right out of the box, without any problems. It was even compatible with all the parts I had to work with.

Cons: Nothing to contribute in the line of "cons" so far.

Other Thoughts: I got this, as a cheap replacement for my uncle's fried MoBo, and it works better than the original, I was even able to put Windows 7 on it, and everything started up, and installed just fine.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Lot's of support in terms of physical hardware. Cheapish

Cons: Broke after about 4 months. Gotta love that ASROCK quality hardware. Will update after I try to use warranty.

Other Thoughts: If you can steer clear then do just that. However if you're forced to use older hardware (AM2/AM2+) then this is a good buy in terms of price. Everything else out there is pretty awful.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

2 out of 5 eggsdied just out of warranty
