3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: cheap at time of purchase for a 970 board

Cons: less than a year had to contact asrock for a replacement board due to the mobo catching fire for some odd reason at the 24 pin ps connector. minus 2 eggs

1 out of 5 eggsThis motherboard no longer supports certain CPUs

Pros: Motherboard works fine if you use a currently-supported CPU.

Cons: This motherboard about a year ago had advertised support from ASRock for high-end FX CPUs, including the FX-8350. Support was later (sneakily) removed by ASRock.

Other Thoughts: It's obvious ASRock doesn't test their motherboards properly. Don't even think about trying to have a smooth RMA process with them either; expect long delays, and even expect them to waste your time by shipping you the wrong motherboard.

So on-top of falsely-claiming hardware support, ASRock won't (easily, if at all) replace your hardware either. Almost feel bad for people who initially bought this board and paired it with a high-end FX CPU expecting it to work right.

This motherboard is discontinued, so buying it isn't an issue anymore, but I would recommend staying away from ASRock entirely. Either that, or hope you never have to take advantage of their RMA.

2 out of 5 eggsDied after a year and a half

Pros: It was decent while it worked.

Cons: This mb died after 1.5 years of ownership. I used default bios settings and didn't ever run it hot. It just died a few days ago. I bought a new power supply and hasn't helped--it just won't boot at all.

Other Thoughts: Had a lot of good features I planned to take advantage of later when I upgrade the box. I'm tempted to buy the newer version of this one to replace it.

1 out of 5 eggsNo credit cards? Really?!?

Pros: I bought this MB over three years ago and it's performed perfectly up until two weeks ago.

Cons: Consider buying a spare heat sink attachment if your computer is critical work equipment.

Other Thoughts: I returned to the office Monday morning only to find my primary business computer totally useless because the plastic heat sink attachment clip on the ASRock motherboard had broken off - letting the heat sink fall away from the CPU causing the computer to go into overheat shut down mode.

A few calls to local computer repair shops failed to find a replacement part so I called ASRock USA customer service.

"Yes," they said, "we sell that replacement part. It's only $5.00 You can pay by check or money order, but we don't accept credit cards."

I'm sitting with a useless business computer and I have to mail a check to them because they don't accept credit cards? Mailing a check via USPS and then awaiting the return part could easily take six or more business days.

I ended up sending them a check via overnight UPS with a prepaid overnight return label. Even still, it took four business days to get the replacement part in my office!

The PC is working fine again. But I lost several days of productivity plus the cost of the overnight mail - all because ASRock USA customer service doesn't accept credit cards.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty great for its price

Pros: Good build quality, easy to install, easy to operate

Cons: Could have added more sata ports.

Other Thoughts: I have upgraded to a 990 board but I would still use this in any other build.

4 out of 5 eggsASRock is a life saver!

Pros: This motherboard has provided an excellent solution for my old ASUS motherboard that did not even last a year! It has been very reliable and much more effective than its predecessor.

Cons: The only down side to this board was the how the Network Interface Controller lasted only two months. But i guess that is what i get for not searching each indvidual component.

Other Thoughts: My father has been using this in the media computer he uses to watch netflix.

5 out of 5 eggsStable Mobo

Pros: -UEFI BIOS makes it easy for inexperienced users to change settings in the BIOS if needed.
-Has had no compatibility issues with any drivers or the like thus far.
-Works well for gaming uses.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This motherboard is still going strong, over a year after purchase. I don't regret buying it.

3 out of 5 eggsWorked good for 1.5 Years!

Pros: -Price
-OC is easy
-USB 3.0
-8120 capable

Cons: -Buggy the last 6 months prior to it failing
-Only lasted a little over a year
-No USB 3.0 Header!

Other Thoughts: This motherboard was great for the first year. Ran my fx-8120 at 4.5 perfectly and wasn't difficult to OC. It was a great price as well for what you get.
After a year, I had problems with boots and random shutdowns. Thought it was the power supply starting to fail but ended up being the motherboard.

When the motherboard was working correctly I would give it 5 stars! If it lasted another year I would be so much more happy. Since it failed after a year I give it 3 stars. Wish there was something I could do.

2 out of 5 eggsDead After a year

Pros: Onboard soundcard?

Cons: "The car actually flew?"
"Look at this, made in japan no wonder it broke!"
"Doc all the best stuff is made in Japan."

Really it is because the level of technology has reached such heights that something as small as a bios chip can ruin the entire mobo.
Don't update your bios!
Both Newegg and AS Rock wouldn't cover it.
I really wanted to buy a new video card for christmas not a new motherboard.

I've had 486s last longer then this!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Sorry to hear BIOS update failure. Please contact us at We can assist you shortly.

Thank you
