5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: Love it that every time that I upgrade parts in my computer I never have to worry about this board because is usually compatible with anything that I throw at it. Works either with AMD or NVidia chips.

Cons: I don't like it that it only comes with 6 SATA ports. So if you want to have more than 6 devices connected to you sata ports sorry. My case alone requires 2 sata ports therefore I lose two right there.

Other Thoughts: I wish it had more built in sata ports, because most ATX cases nowdays requires you to use two of them therefore leaving you with only 4 left, which for me is not enough.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks ok, but I dont like it

Pros: It 'works'* My system is up and running*, and 'issue free'* on the front end. *

Cons: I guess i missed the part where the bios must now provide a gui that looks like it's from a stupid 2002 video game. The mouse/keyboard use on the bios violates basic user expectations about what arrow key moves where, what happens when you click/drag..etc. it's ridiculous to learn how to use, and even feels 'slow' at times.

Aside from that, it has numerous bios features that just "DONT'" work at all or work as expected, ESPECIALLY in the overclocking dept.
Setting the fsb does: nothing.
Setting my ram speed: nothing
changing ht clock: nothing
setting cpu voltages: actually works
Adjusting cpu multiplier: Actually works*
setting cpu multiplier by core: lol, nope. defaults to standard on everything

It likes to boot to 'create bios recovery disc' by default any time you change your hard drives around, or add a new drive.... etc. Such that i would be concerned giving a non-tech this computer to use...

* any overclocking setting change results in the fsb clocking down to 194.3...... why??!??! I have to bump one whole multiplier more just to get the same clock. also slows down the rest of the system.

My 1866 ram runs at 1333 and loose timings. niiice. since setting ram speed or timings doesn't work, i paid double for ram for no good reason. COOL!

overall It's just having to fight the cruddy bios that's got me so upset.

Other Thoughts: I always build at least two computers, one that i use and one with all-compatable components in the low price range, so I can trouble-shoot with it. I switched to the $80 msi board on the backup pc, and everything works great now(aside from the msi board not supporting features I want, such as 1866 ram)

I'll add this mobo to my 'storage shed - o - computer junk' in the motherboard pile, in case i ever need one... Since im too lazy to RMA... and look for a better board from another company.

What a waste of money.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Kerr,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the memory, please set the XMP profile at UEFI/BIOS, OC Tweaker, DRAM Timing Control, Load XMP setting [Profile1].
mainboard has overclocking function. However, overclocking could damage the components as well as mainboard which depend on user’s knowledge, experience and adopted components.

1 out of 5 eggsUSB 3.0 not working

Pros: good looking mobo, got 3 pci e express for 3 way sli or crossfire

Cons: I can use the usb 3.0 it took me a while to figure out where to plug in the power button cable inside the case, the instructions are really confusing until now I still cant figure out where to plug in the reset button and the hdled, I have a good case cooling but it seems to get hotter , the board is just really soft and I actually need to be really careful every time I put something on it like the ram or the cable from power supply, there is an updated bios but asrock site said don't download it its like download it at your own risk i guess,

Other Thoughts: i think this mobo need a review from newegg so people can figure out what to do with the cabling

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for my Needs

Pros: Plenty of on-board options. Great price. Seems to run fine with my FX-8350 at stock settings.

Cons: None at the moment. Though maybe a little more USB 3.0 or eSATA would be nice. Still, not bad for the price.

Other Thoughts: I needed a decent motherboard with enough modern options that I wouldn't need to upgrade for a few more years (ran my old mobo for nearly 8 years). With the AMD990FX, onboard USB 3.0, extra PCIe and even some legacy PCI, I should have no problem adding in anything I need.

Not planning to overclock, so shouldn't be a problem there.

4 out of 5 eggsNot good if you need 3 graphics cards

Pros: Relatively inexpensive

Cons: A double-slot video card will not fit well in the bottom PCIe slot (although it will work) because it's too close to the slot above it and you have to remove the card if you need to fiddle with the motherboard connectors.

First one died and was RMA'd after 2 days of service. Second one is working smoothly.

Other than that, no complains.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -Great BIOS software
-Great for overclocking
-Very nice heatsinks/ temperature control
-3 x 2.0 PCIe (16x)

Cons: -The "PSU" fan isn't controlled from BIOS so you need a software to control that fan (which probably be your back exhaust fan)
-The bottom PCIe slot will not fit bigger GPUs unfortunately, or they will sit right on the PSU which is terrible for heat distribution and exhaust. I recommend you use the middle slot for your card.

3 out of 5 eggsGood for Stock Settings

Pros: It's a good stable board, has lots of features like PCIe 2.0 16x2 (which is why I got it) and for the price that's hard to beat. Lots of USB, build quality looks and feels nice. It POST for me right off the bat and for what I want it to do it's perfect.

Cons: Ok down to the nitty gritty. This board has overclocking potential DEPENDING ON WHAT CPU YOU HAVE/GET. If you have something like an AMD FX-8350 (like I do) even with a good cooling solution and everything that throttles/auto-power/turbo-mode turned off, this board WILL throttle your CPU by itself down to 1.4GHz. I have 7 case fans and a nice aftermarket Zalaman CNPS10X Performa with push pull config (that's 9 fans in total if you're counting) and it will still throttle. I read this in another review and they're absolutely right, this boards VRMs (Voltage Regulator Moduals) aren't the best, but that's what you get for the price folks. If you want to overclock a high-end CPU like the 8350, get something like a Sabertooth 990fx or Crosshair V Formula.

Other Thoughts: I wasn't planning on overclocking my CPU because it lowers it's life span. Pushing something past what it's meant to do will always wear that part out faster than if it was doing what it was meant to do. This board, for me anyways, does exactly what I want, and for the $ you honestly can't beat it. I'm going to throw in some nice GPU's in CFX and then sit pretty for a long time. If you want to overclock a high-end CPU do NOT get this board, or you'll be sorry you did when it throttles down to 1.4GHz after about 3mins of Prime95.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Jeremy Fenn,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Unfortunately, FX-8350 is not on mainboard's CPU support list.
Please visit link below to check supported CPU to avoid the throttle issues.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Mobo

Pros: Plenty of slots. Paper work that comes with it was helpful to find all the connections for someone who doesn't regularly build PCs. I comes with some interesting software including a "XFastUSB" that's supposed to speed up USB drives. Tested it some and it actually works a little, though nothing earth shattering. A couple of MBps on my USB 3.0 external drive, but only a small percentage boost, definitely not the 5X claims in the product description. Has some other software as well, but haven't really tested those. Has some robust overclocking tools in the BIOS, but I'm not much of an overclocker. It also comes with overclocking windows software as well, which is the only way I overclock (so I can turn it off and on as needed).

Cons: No onboard USB 3.0 for case connections, but that's in the description and normal at this price range.

1 out of 5 eggsWon't be fooled by ASRock again!

Pros: It didn't catch on fire.

Cons: At the time of purchase, (June 2013) ASRock claimed this board was compatible with the FX-8320 processor. I have had nothing but issues and random crashes with this board. At one point, thought the memory was the issue so I replaced it with some AMD (Patriot) memory that was on the compatibility list. I have recently learned that the 8320 and 8350 have been removed from the CPU list. I knew this board would not be an overclocker, but I was looking for a good deal. I have left everything at default settings and am using the most current BIOS. I even have a fan blowing down on the VRM. The fact is this board cannot handle the higher end 8 cores. ASRock misrepresented their product on their site and will not refund or replace it with a compatible product.

Other Thoughts: I will NEVER buy another ASRock product again, no matter how good of a deal it seems to be. A company that cannot properly represent its products is not a company that I can put any trust in. I urge you to consider a more reputable company.
