5 out of 5 eggsWorks better than Asus

Pros: Posted with Ivy bridges, 64GB RAM, GTX780ti, Kingston HyperX SSD, Two mirrored 500GB WD platter drives with my old OS (Win 7 Ultimate) + Data from my Asus X79 Deluxe disaster install of three bad boards is a row. (see my reviews - memory slot failer D1 & D2 all three boards. Bad Asus. I tossed the Asrock driver disk in and several restarts - later it's alive. Likes my KVM, cause it has PS2 ports for Keyboard & mouse. No stupid pause problem.

Cons: PCIe slot three is not useful for dual slot card. It would covers all the buttons and wires and won't fit in my ATX case. Not going to use it anyway. Has PCI slots?? Chassis fan headers not near chassis fan. My chassis fan is at rear of board. The Headers are all at front bottom of the case. So the wire is too short to plug in. Really?? Stuffed it into the Power Supply fan header and it works but I can't control speed in BIOS. Asus had them where they belong. But thier board did not stay working for me.

Other Thoughts: I really haven't tested this board yet. It has been up for an hour and I will check every aspect before I commit it to its real job. Any issues will be posted. So far I like it more than the Asus X79 Deluxe. It works, It has PS2 ports(2), looks nice, No crash on post or boot even over the old OS install from failed Asus board. Drivers installed like clockwork!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsASRock...rocks!

Pros: Worked perfectly out of the box, easy OC options though the BIOS, very easy to flash the BIOS! Looks awesome! 8 DIMM slots, comes with nice SATA cables (even included a couple of 90* ends)

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I purchased this motherboard for my current gaming build which consists of an Intel i7 4820k (liquid cooled), 16GB G.Skill RipJaws Z, 2 x EVGA GTX780 cards (Liquid cooled), Corsair HX1050 power supply and a couple of Toshiba SSDs. Very happy with the quality of this board...plus it looks great!

1 out of 5 eggshorrible customer support

Pros: i have nothing nice to say

Cons: Their customer support is useless. After you fill in ever blank . All you get is contact dealer,NEWEGG.com, for support. Well everybody knows that newegg.com doesn't offer support. Why should they support ASRock's product. There are no numbers to call and no direct emails.

I think i had a very simple problem just no sound.
Brand new motherboard x79 extreme6, i7, 32gb ausu pcie 3 graphics card 2gb 800 watt power supply. everything is working great but the sound . Installed all the drivers and any updates and updated the bios to 3.0.

I never contact support if i can help it.

So long store short DO NOT BUY ASROCK PRODUCTS.

Other Thoughts: i HAVE 2500 WORTH OF PARTS THAT WORK GREAT WITH NO SOUND..... NOT HAPPY THAT I AM GOING TO HAVE TO TEAR IT DOWN AND GO WITH A DIFFERENT COMPANY.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear offdepp

We sincerely apologize that you having difficulty with onboard sound.
Please check the HD audio controller is enable in the UEFI BIOS, Advanced, South Bridge Configuration.
Uninstall the sound driver, download and install the sound driver at link “ http://218.210.127.131/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false “
Plug the analog speaker to rear speaker port (green).
Set the default playback sound device to analog speaker at Control Panel/Sound/Playback.
Check the Windows volume control has not been muted.
Test with another known good speaker.

5 out of 5 eggsPleasant Surprise

Pros: Posted all new hardware up without a single hiccup.
Recognized 32GB ram, 4820k processor, and dual gtx 760s right out of the box.
I always get nervous with motherboards but this was a great buy.

Cons: I have heard horror stories about ASRocks's quality control, I did find one really nit-pick thing--the Extreme badging on the heatsink was badly dinged by something BEFORE the protective plastic was applied. I guess I would only dock an egg for this if it affected the performance, but it scared me.

Other Thoughts: So far, zero issues with this motherboard.
The X79 platform seemed to be plagued with buggy interfaces early-on, but a few manufacturers seem to have worked out the kinks.

4 out of 5 eggscmon asrock

Pros: plenty of sata connectors, fan headers,, well made, came with latest bios version (2.80) for gen3 compatibility

Cons: ok, why in the world would you make a motherboard in this sub slot form,, the majority of pci-e video cards are dual slot these days, so if you want to use say a wireless pci card you cant, because its covered up by the video card, had to reconfigure the evga 760 video card to second slot ,hope im getting full bandwidth ...good thing I didn't want to sli...

Other Thoughts: on your next gen motherboards, go buy some hardware (700 series video cards , wireless cards, soundcards, network cards etc) and make sure they all fit into the slots without interfering with each other before going to production, try designing a board that's usable too all ,not just a few!!

1 out of 5 eggslimited compatibility for RAM (64GB config)

Pros: 2 PCI slots for old cards

Cons: I bought this for 64GB RAM configuration but it has limited compatibility for RAM. You need to check memory support list before making any purchase. Only 5 RAM product can fit into this board for 64GB configuration.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this board if you think of 64GB RAM

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Thank you for your purchase and review. Mainboard supports most of the memory on the market.
We do the best to providing memory support list at "http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X79%20Extreme6/?cat=Memory " for reference.
Unfortunately, there's unable to test all the memory selling on the market due to newer models would have releasing often from their manufacturers.

5 out of 5 eggsVery happy with my purchase

Pros: Drivers on CD were up to date, which is very rare.

Board was updated with the latest bios.

Stickers on motherboard indicating proper RAM seating and Sata ports to use.

Correctly identified my RAM, but I did have to update the bios setting to use the XMP profile to run it at 2400. I use the (4x8) GSkill 2400 Sniper set.

Tons of USB ports.

The look and feel of the board screams quality.

Overclocking could not be more easy.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I put everything together and it booted up with no issues. Loaded Windows 7 in 10 minutes and it boots up to the login after post in 5 seconds after a few performance tweaks.

I did have to adjust some bios settings and configure my SSD for optimal performance, but once that was done I have so far been able to achieve a stable 4.5 OC and over 1000 MB / sec read/write operations on my Samsung Evo SSD. The system has exceeded my expectations.

3 out of 5 eggsDIMM Slot defect - otherwise great board

Pros: Great price. Quality board for the most part (see below). Dr. Debug codes are a helpful feature. I also liked the power/reset switches on the board itself. Spacing between slots is adequate. One of the best boards for the price.

Cons: The board contained a manufacturing defect. After thorough testing, I found that one of the DDR3 DIMM slots (B1) would not accept RAM and threw error code b7 when I would install a module. The RAM was on the approved list and I confirmed it was the slot causing the issue. I haven't yet contacted ASRock about the issue yet, but I will update this when I have. That is the only negative for me, it is a great board otherwise and would have received 5 eggs!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the RAM slot issue, please clear the CMOS.
Reseat the CPU and cooler.
Reseat the memory firmly to assure fully contact with the slots.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent, Solid board.

Pros: High quality board for the right price. I have been able to run 3 GPUs on this board, each with exceptional OCs, while having my 3960x running 5GHz under water and running 64GB of RAM at the same time for some serious benching. The board held up better than I thought it would and is still running to this day.

PCH has a fan. I mark this as a pro because it's there if ever needed. It's also marked as a pro because the heatsink does its job even with 3 GPUs. There is no need to run the fan, but just nice to have that there in case. Set target temp to 60 and target fan to 1 and it'll stay off. I'll also mention here that it is not that loud. The complaints I see about how loud these fans are is rubbish. If you're gaming and your GPU starts to ramp up you will not be able to hear the PCH fan.

Lots of SATA ports for a lower end board.
Tri-SLI/Crossfire support.
Molex for PCI-E stability.
Debug LED - And can be turned off for those who don't want it.
Plenty of USB3.
Plenty of OC options in the bios, with a nice "pre-selected" set of OC options for noobs.
Nice and easy to understand UEFI interface for new people.
Plenty of fan headers and fan control options in bios, especially with newest update.
Onboard audio adequate enough for most typical audio setups or cans.
Gigabit LAN....works well lol.
No VRM buzz.

Cons: VRM heatsink too small for the load of an overclocked hex. The power phases themselves can handle pushing a 3960x at 5GHz, but you need to put a fan on the heatsink so they don't cook. Kind of disappointed seeing higher end Z87 boards with fans on the VRM but X79 got gipped. I suppose any real overclocker or enthusiast will be prepared for this anyways. So no eggs knocked off for that.

Would have been nice to have a 1x slot above the top 16x slot for a RAID or audio card. I understand this would have messed up the overall slot placement, but the 2 slots for the top card kind of make up for it still giving the availability of 3 cards together.

The need to have my SSD plugged into a specific port for proper boot up is kind of lame, as well as RAM stick configuration can be kind of confusing for any new people to PCs if not using all 8 DIMMs.
With the above 3 mentioned, this is why I knocked off an egg.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board to review 2 RAM sets for Bjorn3D.com. I initially was going to sell it to continue using my old board but it was so decent for the money I decided to keep it. It held a better overclock than my previous board, and also overclocked my 8 stick RAM set with the CPU OC which was also not doable on my previous board.

My only suggestion for ASRock would be to start making their 24pin connectors at a right angle. This would definitely give an edge over Asus and Gigabyte as competitors in the US market.

4 out of 5 eggsA quality mobo designed for overclocking.

Pros: The motherboard is built well. ASRock shipped the mobo with the latest bios installed and their CD came with latest versions of the drivers and utilities. Unfortunately for me when I got around to installing the mobo the bios and all the drivers had later versions. Fortunately ASRock’s website is easy to navigate and downloading new bios, drivers and utilities is easy. And the updating the bios is a breeze.

Cons: The one egg ding is because the motherboard did not have GUID for the 1394 stored in the prom. I needed to write down the mobo’s GUID and run fwguid.exe to store the GUID. ASRock should have done this during its manufacturing process. The boot process would fail with the following error “1394 GUID are invalid in both CMOS and Flash!” until the GUID was set. To read about this problem and its fix search for the error message and read about it at "tom’s HARDWARE".

The UEFI documentation has really small screen shot images of the UEFI pages. Really tough to read. But fortunately the actual UEFI interface is rather intuitive.

And I still have not found the XFast RAM driver for Windows 8.1. But with 32GBs of DDR3-2400 memory, I not sure I’m missing much.

Other Thoughts: My Computer Configuration is:
Computer Case: Cooler Master - Storm Trooper - SGC-5000-KKN1
Motherboard: ASRock X79 Extreme6
Processor: i7-4930K
Memory: G.SKILL Trident X 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3 - 2400 - F3-2400C10Q-32GTX
Video Card: EVGA GTX 580 - 03G-P4-1584-RB
Wireless Network Card: TRENDnet 300Mbps 802.11n - TEW-623PI V3.OR
Hard Drive: Seagate 3TB SATA 3 - ST3000DM001 (4 each)
Blu-Ray Burner: LG - WH14NS40
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series - H110
Radiator Fans: GELID - Wing 14 – FN-FW14B-12 (2 each)
Power Supply: Corsair AX1200i

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize that you having difficulty with 1394 GUID.
Most of the mainboards would not occur above mentioned behavior.
However, it can be resolved by 1394 tool program (may acquire from us).
