Pros: When it worked, it was great

1 out of 5 eggsBad warranty support

Pros: Great motherboard, great features.

Cons: Motherboard stopped working at the 8 month mark. I cannot get ahold of anyone for servicing. Asrock tells me to contact Newegg and Newegg tells me to contact Asrock. This is the worst warranty support for any computer related product I have ever had.

Other Thoughts: I would not purchase anything from Asrock again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please check the warranty for product detail under Newegg which states the Manufacturer Warranty.
However, Newegg has 30 days return policy, if past the 30 days, contact the manufacturer for return and we do honor the warranty (unless not specified purchase date).

1 out of 5 eggsASrock lies, terrible company.

Pros: 8-SATA ports
Two PCI-E x16 3.0 slots
Simple and easy BIOS.
Gold Cap capacitors
Higher Audio- ALC898
Good number of USB

Cons: ASROCK LIES!

Digital power design is a lie. The motherboard uses an L6718 PWM chip. This chip does not support digital power. This chip is an only ANALOG power design. Digital is better, this is worse. This is simply false advertising by a bad company.

The chip mentioned also only supports a 4+1 phase power design. This means that overclocking will not be as easy. It creates less stability and other issues.

The 2nd PCI-E x16 3.0 slot would not work with my Rosewell wireless NIC. It did work fine in other PCI-E ports though.

Customer support is terrible. That warranty doesn't exist, because unless you fly to Asia and knock on their front door with your motherboard you are never getting help from them with any issue.

Other Thoughts: I reviewed this board a long time ago when I first received it. I got a free 60GB SSD and paid I think around $130. I gave it a decent rating at the time. Now I am giving it a 1 out of 5 to help balance it out between the other review.

My total real rating for this board would be a 2 out of 5.

ASrock is willing to lie to all of you, so they can make more money. They have no customer support, and I will never buy an ASrock board again. I would rather pay the extra $20 or $30 for a board with exact same features from another company than buy an ASrock board again, and I will never advise anyone to buy from them.

Their other boards, like the ASrock Z77 Extreme 4 full ATX board looks to be a pretty decent board, but being that they still lie to you and that they still have no customer support I would advise getting any other company besides them.

If you still have doubts, look at it this way. you buy a motherboard and it works right past the point which Newegg will switch it out for a new one. It dies one week later. You now have a piece of plastic with sharp metal bits that wouldn't even work as a door stopper. All of your money is gone and there is no way you are ever getting a replacement even if you email them every other week for the 3 year warranty period. Maybe after 3 years they will drop you an email saying your warranty has expired, but I question if they would even bother to do that much.

1 out of 5 eggsDead

Pros: Great when it worked

Cons: Dead in 6 months. All my other components checked out on another computer

Other Thoughts: "Extremely" disappointed in the quality. I'll get around to RMAing it eventually but a board that's only 6 months old and for the price, it should live longer.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Sorry to hear that the mainboard has malfunctioned after 6 months which’s due to nature of electronic product, it can happen.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard;
Turn the power off.
Remove the mainboard from chassis, place the mainboard on mainboard’s box
Clear the CMOS
Test with single memory module (non-ECC, un-buffered), try with another known good memory if its same issue
Plug monitor to onboard VGA (CPU with iGPU/APU supported or test with VGA card)
Plug the 24 pins + 8 or 4 pins ATX power
Plug the chassis power switch to mainboard's system panel power header, and try again

1 out of 5 eggswon't post

Pros: Free ram. It is pretty.

Cons: Waste of time an money. As indicated audio header in bsd spot. Had to hook up alc97 instead of hd because my cable was too short. GPU almost crushes the wires. A double wide card covers 1 pci slot. Wouldn't be able to sli in my mini atx case.

Other Thoughts: All this is moot because 3 boards later, I still don't have a working computer. I have tried 3 different RAM pairs that are on the supported list and 2 different known good psu's in all 3 boards. All 3 boards have what appears to be a dead sys fan 2 header. When I contacted Asrock through email, they eesponded, "call NewEgg".

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. ASRock mainboards are fully tested to assure that they're working before shipped. Since this is third mainboard having same issue, please check the other components that they are working properly as well.
Please trouble shooting the mainboard with known good chassis fan;
Turn the power off.
Remove the mainboard from inside computer to outside, place the mainboard on top of the empty mainboard’s box
Clear the CMOS
Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan as well
Plug the 24 pins + 8 or 4 pins ATX power to the mainboard
Reconnect the chassis fan to mainboard fan2 header
Plug the computer case’s power switch to mainboard's front panel power header and try again

2 out of 5 eggsHow hard is it to design a Mobo?

Pros: The board fit in my machine, supports a goodset of chips and a fair size of memory.

Cons: The design of this motherboard is ridiculous. As mentioned, the front panel HDMI hookups to the mother board are underneath the PCIE slot. So, forget about plugging them in. My cord wouldn't even reach with the card plugged in and I couldn't get the card to slot when it was plugged in before putting the card in. No excuse here, this is just bad design.

Before I get into this next section let me say that this card, which is being advertised as being Crossfire ready, IS NOT CROSS FIRE READY. From the product description: "NEXT-GEN PCI-E 3.0 SUPPORT AND QUAD SLI, QUAD CROSSFIREX SUPPORT" <- This is nothing but a bald faced lie, and now I am going to explain why.

If you are like me and have 8 SATA Devices, forget hooking them up if you want a second GPU. If you are like me, and have front panel USB devices, forget having a second GPU. If you are like me and want any other sort of perephiral device hooked up to your machine....forget about having a second GPU. So if you are willing to limit yourself to all these things, then yes, it's crossfire ready.

All of the overflow SATA Ports and front panel ports and laid out right underneath where the second GPU would plug in - much as the hdmi audio port is under the first GPU. It seems that when designing this board to be 'crossfire ready' they assumed no one would want to plug one - or even two GPUs into the board.

When I did unplug all of these things, I was left with a machine that had only it's power button on the case working - and the GPU's I slotted would not eve line up with the holes to attach them to the case. This is making me think that, for whatever reason, the PCIE slots are closer together on this board then on other PC boards I have used in the past.

Other Thoughts: The cheap plastic clips to lock the GPUs to the board broke off as I was sliding them backwards to open up the slot with barely any force at all. This is more evidence of an inferior design and product manufacturing, but is not a deal breaker.

Additionally when installing the CPU the instructions that came with the CPU were backwards when viewed next to the motherboard. I am not sure if this is a mobo or a chip issue.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Please clarify the front panel HDMI connectors, due to mainboard does not have mentioned connectors.
Mainboard supports AMD Quad CrossFireX™, 3-Way CrossFireX, CrossFireX™ and NVIDIA® Quad SLI™, SLI™ , please visit mainboard specification link at " http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77%20Extreme4-M/?cat=Specifications ".
However, mainboard is complied the standard Micro ATX form factor to avoid mis-match the cases.
As always, we appreciate your purchase and constructive reviews are welcome.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat board, AWFUL support

Pros: Great build quality, amazing price for the specs, and ran rock solid for an entire year. Excellent UEFI interface, loads of overclocking features(not that I used them, but they're there), and has dual SATAIII controllers (1 Intel, 1 ASMedia) MOSFET heatsinks are very solid and perform very well.

Cons: After owning the board for about 1 year and everything going swimmingly, I decided to update the BIOS so that I could take advantage of the UEFI RAID capability added in v1.60. I performed the Windows-based version of the update as opposed to Instant Flash. While the update was running(from a fresh install of Windows 7 x64, by the way), the system gave a BSOD, citing error code 0xdeaddead (which was extremely odd in itself..) After powering down, the system refused to ever come back. The system powered up, but that's about it.. No POST, no boot, no response from the system whatsoever. Clearly, a botched BIOS update had bricked my computer. My drives, RAM, and power supply all check out in other systems and I tried the obvious things like clearing the CMOS, so it's not like a failed component caused this crash. A botched BIOS update caused this crash, and ASRock boards have *zero* means of recovering from a bad flash. (No emergency-update mode, no dual BIOS like some Gigabyte boards, etc..)

I contacted ASRock support by phone to see about getting this resolved as quickly as possible, seeing as how a botched BIOS update was really outside of anything I could have controlled. Their support line would not help me whatsoever. One technician claimed that this was "user-induced damage" and would not be covered by warranty. NO. That is incorrect. This is far from the same category of damage as something like bent pins, something physically broken, careless overclocking, etc. They wanted to put the blame on me, and kept saying "We do not recommend updating the BIOS unless you have problems that need to be fixed by an update". I believe I should feel comfortable updating the BIOS to add features that I deem necessary and beneficial to my setup, which was UEFI RAID in this scenario.

After talking to a few customer service reps and even being escalated to a supervisor, they finally agreed to replace the board, but offered no advance replacement. I would have to ship them the board, and only *after* they receive and process it, would then send a new one back. My time is money, I CANNOT be down for over 1-2 weeks. In the end, I had to be out-of-pocket and but a replacement mobo from a brick and mortar store. I'm not up and running thanks to that and Acronis Universal Restore, but not I'll have to RMA this dead board, get the new one, and try to sell it and maybe break even if I'm lucky.

Other Thoughts: The boards are great, but if you expect even the slightest shred of reasonable customer service, then forget it and steer clear of ASRock. I expect that an ASRock support rep will probably pop in here to this review and offer some by-the-book apology and "please contact us at our support email"... As if doing that wouldn't make me experience the above all over again. :/ Pitiful, pitiful support.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board

Pros: This board is a great mATX option. The board layout is almost perfect, with plenty of space around the CPU. It also supports 8x/8x for nVidia SLI, which is a plus. The built in BIOS is great, as is their hardware monitoring program. It's nice to control the board's fan headers from the OS.

The board accepted Corsair's XMP profile for the memory, and everything else setup as expected.

Cons: The front panel audio header is next to the primary PCIe slot, putting it underneath the graphics card when installed. Kind of a tight fit.
