1 out of 5 eggsAfter a few months of use...

Pros: I wrote a review below, a few months ago. This one takes place after using it for a while.

IDE and RAID work just jim-dandy fine. Network ports, USB, all seem functional. No CPU (i5-3570) or RAM issues - after BIOS flash, of course. We won't go there.

Plenty of expandability - and I've loaded mine up completely.

Cons: I'm about sick of this thing. As stated previously, who needs 20 USB ports? And the BIOS flashing nuisance. But there are other port issues.

The back-panel port cluster is too far back on the board. All rear ports are too far in for some of them to connect with. Namely, the eSATA port is unusable, as are some of the USB ports. Even without the I/O plate, the eSATA port does NOT work. At all. Yes, the internal port 4 is unused because it's supposed to be "shared". Internal port 4 works, external does not.

Floppy controller does not work. Partial at best. You might be able to read some, and it goes thru the motions while formatting, but don't expect to be able to boot to it. But I can tell you that, if you use floppy, it'll only recognize a 3½" 1.44MB, no other floppy is recognized. Stupidity, there.

The "standard" SATA-III ports are eating up my hard drives. I've lost two already, and I'm on my third drive. I am VERY thankful for hard drive imaging software. RAID ports work just fine, however.

The #1 PCI-Express x1 (topmost) slot is unusable. Heat sink is in the way, and no card will fit. And I've tried dozens.

I only use one video card. The PCIe-x16 video slot only runs cards at x8. Don't bother trying x16, because it won't do it. Tried with 3 different cards. No go. The good side of that is at least it's still PCI-Express 3.0, so it kinda makes up for it, for what I'm used to.

Right-angle SATA ports are a nightmare. The idiot that thought of that particular bit needs to be flayed. And mine is built into a case that has PLENTY of room (Cooler Master Centurion 590) and still it's a nightmare to connect cables.

I could go on, but I'm sick of this thing. I've dropped the rating down to 1 egg. Save yourselves the hassle.

Other Thoughts: After my first review, you can see the response to contact them if I had any issues. Well, about a week after that, I tried. My emails might as well have been sent underground, for all the good they did. I find it funny how companies will bend over backward to make a sale, but after the sale, they drag their heels - if they pay any attention to you at all.

My config:
700W CoolMax PSU
i5-3570 3.4GHz
4x G.Skill 1GB DDR3-1600 (4GB total)
XP-Pro 32-Bit
SLOTS:
PCIEx1: Unusable (heat sink)
PCIEx16: Nvidia GeForce 640GT 2GB CSVGA video card
PCI1: Agere 56kbps V.92 fax.modem card
PCIEx1: Generic DB25F Parallel Printer port card
PCIEx16: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 TV & FM tuner card
PCI2: Adaptec AHA-29160UW 14-device SCSI Host adapter
PCIEx16: Syba Firewire 1394a/b interface card
DRIVES:
A: drive won't work, but it's a standard floppy.
C & D: Samsung 160GB SATA-300 (Multiboot)
E: WD 500GB SATA-600 Raptor (Documents)
F: (2) WD 1.0TB SATA-600, Raid-1 Mirrored
G: (2) WD 1.0TB SATA-300, Raid-1 Mirrored
H: (2) WD 500GB SATA-300, Raid-1 Mirrored
I: IBM 18.4GB UW-SCSI drive
And a bunch of other removable media drives.

Yes, I still use old stuff, so sue me. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

2 out of 5 eggsasrock z77 Fatal1ty Professional

Pros: Great when they work, purchased these boards for the sata connectors.

Cons: Dead out of box 2 in a row I have bought over 10 of these all others working fine and flawless.

Other Thoughts: Hit or miss on these ASUS and Gigabyte seem to be bullet proof.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Sorry to hear that two of the mainboards has malfunctioned.
Please trouble shoot the mainboards to check if its resolved ;
Unplug the ATX power.
Remove the mainboard from chassis, place the mainboard on mainboard’s box
Clear the CMOS
Check the mainboard’s CPU socket pins are normal (should be pointing same way and pattern)
Reseat the CPU with heatsink fan as well if socket pins are normal
Test with single memory module (non-ECC, un-buffered)
Plug monitor to onboard VGA (CPU with iGPU/APU supported or test with VGA card)
Plug the 24 pins + 8 or 4 pins ATX power
Turn the power on (using onboard power button) to check if its post

3 out of 5 eggsGood until the sata controller died. RMA slow

Pros: Lots of ports (6 sata3, 4 sata2, usb3, etc, etc)

Cons: rma process is not very smooth

1 out of 5 eggsKilling my CPU

Pros: The LED display for Bios codes is awesome.

Cons: Seems to kill my CPUs, on the third CPU, system worked for 3 months, turned it off one night and then no video and 00 code on the board. Replaced CPU system worked great, this time lasted only 2 months and did same thing.
Reached out ASROck tech support and they were no help.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the issue, please check the CPU is not over heating which may cause to damage the processor.
Try with UEFI BIOS default setting, if CPU is overclocking.
If you have any technical issues or warranty questions please contact our Tech Support at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We can assist you shortly.

5 out of 5 eggsASRock is quality

Pros: Very Overclocking friendly, board fits well inside case, Good overall quality

Cons: The CMOS reset button is directly below the USB 2.0 port, and it is really easy to press accidentally. If this happens you will have to redirect the boot sequence

Other Thoughts: The board is everything you would expect from a higher end MB. I recommend this board because of the simplicity and functionality.
My Computer:
ASRock Z77 Fatal1y pro
Intel i7-2700K @ 4.8
16 GB G-skill 1600
Corsair 700w PSU

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but...odd.

Pros: More than enough expandability for anyone. Plenty of ports, drives, the whole bit. Gorgeous appearance, beautiful BIOS utility. Never seen UEFI BIOS before. Lots of eye-candy for those that like to show off the appearance.

Was a gift from my nephew for my birthday. Sweet board, overall. I won't get boards that don't have floppy & IDE ports, and this fit the bill.

Cons: Who in the world needs 20 USB ports? Seriously, way too much overkill on the USBs, and its using up IRQs that could be used for something else. That's always been a nuisance to me.

And with a board this loaded, why not 1394-B ports as well?

Requires BIOS flash to do anything worthwhile. Out of the box, most RAM and some CPUs won't work with it. Flash first using some cheap-o Kingston DDR3 and maybe a Pentium to start off, then up it to your favorite maker & speed of RAM and CPU.

SATA ports are never labeled as they're read by BIOS. When connecting drives, pay close attention to the order that the BIOS reads them. Things could end up out of order when installing your OS.

Other Thoughts: Quality control is a thing of the past, folks. You've been warned.

Minus 2 eggs: one for the incompatibility issues and nuisance of having to flash BIOS just to get it to work, and one for the idiocy of the USB overkill.

Current config:
4x G.Skill DDR3-1600 (4GB total)
Core i5 3570 CPU (3.4/3.8GHz)
Running like a champ now.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Thank you for your purchase and review.

3 out of 5 eggsSome good, some bad

Pros: Fast, lots of connection

Cons: It is very, very fickle. Be ready to spend a lot of time debugging things that would be "no-brainers" on standard machines. I was assisted by a very competent team of professional tech guys, and it generated a fair amount of business for them.

Turn on the mfg supplied "USB accelerator", and the images you are downloading from your camera get corrupted.
Plug 2 card readers via the USB 3.0, you are good. Plug in a 3rd one and all of a sudden it chews up that card, you have to go through a recovery software.
Load a very common photoshop plug-in used by thousands of user, and all of a sudden it will not boot-up, you have to do a windows repair and hope that your latest system image was good.

Just know what you are getting into, this is not a plug and play machine.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the issue, please download and update the latest BIOS at link " http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty%20Z77%20Professional/?cat=Download&os=BIOS ".
Set the UEFI BIOS default.
Test with single memory module, try with another known good memory to eliminate the issue.

2 out of 5 eggsFree Memory doesn't work!

Pros: Well.. once I get it working right, I'll update this

Cons: The free 8 GB
(Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS8G3D1609ES2LX0)
the comes from NewEgg is incompatible with the z77 Motherboard:
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty%20Z77%20Professional/?cat=Memory

NewEggs response : We cannot guarantee the incomparability. The memory is a free gift.

Other Thoughts: So... thats just a heads up if you think you are getting a deal with this board

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Mainboard has tested with CPU i5-2500K and i7-3770 to try to duplicate the issue. This memory module works normally on mainboard Z77 Professional.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far...

Pros: Amazing Motherboard... tons of sata drive options... the backplane has a ton of options usb 3... usb 2... hdmi... heck, you name it! Make sure you get a good solid power supply with lots of options, I used the Rosewill 600... and it worked out well...

Cons: Make sure that you get everything aligned properly before seating the motherboard, there's a lot to take into consideration... cables, CPU heatsink, Sata cable connections/locations... pretty minor stuff compared to what you get.

Other Thoughts: Love the options available with the drive, given the other reviews, I purchased a longer warranty, here's hoping I don't need it!
