1 out of 5 eggsNo HD Playback

Pros: Small and very low power usage

Cons: Advertised as being capable of HD playback and Blu-Ray. It is neither. Will not pass Digital Cable Advisory in Media Center.
It fails on the graphics test. Very very slow response even as a regular PC if Windows Aero is enabled. Open window lag way behind when moving it across the screen. ASRock was closed the entire week so I could not contact their tech support. I installed Windows 7 twice and all drivers that came with it and got the same results both times. Not sure if the motherboard or the processor was the problem but cannot separate anyway.

Other Thoughts: Will need to replace with a Pentium or i3 system or dare I say, AMD. Would have given it 0 eggs if I could

Manufacturer Response:

Dear AsRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. The video performance will be limited due to CPU and video are integrated. However, the mainboard supports HD audio 7.1 (Realtek ALC892), for more information please visit mainboard’s specification at link http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/AD2700-ITX/?cat=Specifications “ .
If you have any technical questions or warranty issues please contact us at 909-590-8308. We can assist you shortly.

4 out of 5 eggsWindows 7 x32 ONLY

Pros: D2700 is the single best Atom out right now and it shows. USB 3 is neat as well.

Cons: Do not even bother with this board unless you have a copy of Windows 7 32-bit on hand. The reason is (as stated in the description) there are no graphics drivers available for ANY other OS. This is solely Intel's fault and there is a huge outcry if you search forums on this. ASRock did a good job as usual with this board, it's just a matter of Intel getting around to providing some more GMA 3650 drivers.

Other Thoughts: The UEFI is very minimal, not much you can tweak here, but that isn't really a problem.

If you want to install a 64-bit OS, you will have to flash the UEFI to the latest version.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent for a HTPC

Pros: It worked perfectly fine to stream movies through hdmi to tv. I used Window Xp with a 60gb SSD sata2, cheap 2x2gb rams and only 100watt power supply. Didn't need any fan

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: It might become a bit slower if you use window 7 instead of window xp.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat mobo except for os limits.

Pros: With win 7 installed, it makes a great system. Easy build. Low cost for 4 gb ram.

Cons: Cannot get it to work with anything but win 7 32 bit. I know it says that in the specs, but why would anyone put out a great little board like this with such a limitation? Maybe if enough people ask that question, they will put out a new build that will run Linux.

3 out of 5 eggsNot a good board for 64-bit Ubuntu Server NAS

Pros: Low-power. USB 3.
Price is good.

It works fine, and as always, the ASRock BIOS is easy to use.

Cons: The D2700 is the fastest Atom processor currently available. It supports 64-bit instructions, but this board disables support for that instruction set! That means even if you plan to use Ubuntu Server in 64-bit mode for faster video transcoding, you have to run 32-bit Ubuntu Server. That was a real disappointment. AMD64/EM64T provides a 15-30% performance boost to compute-heavy tasks, especially on the Atom architecture.

With hyperthreading enabled, it can ALMOST BARELY do real-time video transcoding to my phone. I'm sure it would have no problem in 64-bit mode, if that was enabled.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board as a low-power home server / NAS / Air Video server. I planned to run 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04.

I had a spare PCI SATA card so it was convenient that the board has a PCI slot, but honestly I'd prefer a PCI Express x1 slot so I could do more I/O to the attached drives. (250 MB/s vs. 133 MB/s)

Regarding power consumption: invest in a very low-power power supply. I had a 650W Antec PSU lying around, and it consumed more at idle (not powering any devices) than the board itself.

Wait for the next generation of Atom CPUs and boards...

1 out of 5 eggsRMA still wont work

Pros: I cant get past the bios so no pros right now.

Cons: The first board would lock up whenever I go into bios, so I sent it back. The board that was returned to me is doing the same thing. It did boot up to XP install disk and XP began its routine, but while XP was formatting my new HD, the power to the house went off. Now when I try to boot up, I get a message saying that the OS is corrupt. I go into bios to set it to boot from the CD first so I can reformat the hard drive using Win XP CD, but it hangs up.
This is very annoying, I know that even if I got XP to install, sooner or later I will have to use the bios.
ASROCK suggested memory may not be compatible, but I cannot find any of the memory listed on the website as compatible at Newegg. Plus I have already bought 4 gigs that will not work on anything else I have (wont fit).

Other Thoughts: I have to give it a low rating. But I plan to keep it, maybe I can find some of the recommended ram and try that. Just hate to keep pouring money into it.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsFirst "Build"

Pros: I bought this for a very budget build. I didn't want to go crazy for the first one I put together. All I'm using it for is word processing, spreadsheets, surfing, streaming music. It will stream high definition from the web with out any trouble. I used Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 4GB (2 x 2GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model 996643n for the memory and it's working great. Also used a 60GB Mushkin SSD to get started, it's also working very well. The SSD gives that part of the window's experience index a 7.0. All the guts are in an Antec 300-150 case. It's probably not going to blow anyone's mind that does this as a serious hobby or expects extreme performance, but for my uses, I'm very pleased.

Cons: The drivers came with a lot of extra junk software. Those of you who regularly build computers probably know of this up front and know how to avoid getting it all over your desktop. I had to look around a little to get a particularly annoying shortcut to a web-game thing off. The fact that there was no obvious way to simply delete it is a load...I think that kind of stuff hurts a company's credibility. Bottom line though, I got it off.

Other Thoughts: I like the idea of a basic processor getting the job done with minimal power usage. It's a cool little machine that does what I want.

5 out of 5 eggsGood firewall

Pros: Small footprint, low power. I'm using this as a firewall tested it with both untangle and SmoothWall. Buy a second one for the brains of a CNC machine.

Cons: None as of yet.

Other Thoughts: Seems solid. 30 days with no reboots.

1 out of 5 eggsLocks in Bios

Pros: Good price, small design.

Cons: It locks up whenever I go to bios. I have disconnected all drives and used only one stick of ram, still locks up.

Other Thoughts: Cant find any info on this problem on the web. May have to RMA it.

1 out of 5 eggsHangs up in bios

Pros: Small size, good price. Maybe more if I could get past bios post

Cons: I cannot get past the bios screen on this. If I go to bios it hangs whenever I press a keyboard key. At first mouse would work (in bios screen), but would hang when I clicked on anything, now mouse does not respond at all.
I have to power off to get out of the bios screen when it hangs up.

Other Thoughts: I looked on the website but couldnt find out anything, if someone cant help me in a couple of days I guess I will have to RMA it.
Low setting due to the fact that I cannot get past bios post.
Have installed 4 gigs of mushkin PC3-8500 SODIMM.
I have tried removing one stick with same problem.
