5 out of 5 eggsAs Advertised

Pros: Works without issue so far. Automatically configured my 1600 ram.

Cons: None. I knew about the lack of a USB 3.0 header and other missing stuff. Gimme a break, it's a budget board!

Other Thoughts: I was wary of the ASRock name because of locals who had bad-mouthed the brand quite badly. However, newegg has been very solid in its return policy, so I gave this a shot. Glad I did. Armed with a FX4300, 8gb 1600mhz RAM, an old 9600GT vid card, & a oem 1tb hdd, this runs my Kubuntu 12.04 setup nicely.

3 out of 5 eggsMotherboard and AMD FX 8350

Pros: The board its self is really good. It seemed to hold very well for the work I was doing.

Cons: The motherboard overheated and got fried; I used it with an AMD FX 8350. I believe the CPU generates too much heat for the board. I believe the board can only hold about 95W and the CPU is about 125W.

Other Thoughts: DO NOT get this board and use it with an AMD FX 8350!! Unless you have superior cooling! The board will just get fried! I learned from my mistake and warning you!

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Bother With ASRock

Pros: Worked perfectly for the first month but after that, it doesn't recognize the hard drives.

Cons: Stopped recognizing the hard drives. Sometimes the computer reboots by itself since it keeps losing that connection. Sometimes when I turn it on for the first time it just remains on the Windows logo and doesn't do much after that. I have tried all the test that the Manufacturer has responding with and still with no avail. I will probably buy a different brand to replace this motherboard.

Other Thoughts: I don't know if it's because I'm using SATA 2 drives that the motherboard stops recognizing it so I will purchase a SATA 3 and reinstall everything. I hope that fixes the problem and I will later update my review.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Sco97,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please reconnect the drive firmly to the SATA port.
Test with another SATA cable and drive to check if the symptom still occurs.
If you have any technical issues please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsreliable

Pros: I've had this motherboard since 2012, been using it almost every single day since, coupled with AMD Athlon II X3 450 Rana 3.2GHz, and G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600, and it all has been running very well since. I bought this to have a SMALL case, but one that could hold 16 GB of RAM, an 8 core processor, and any pcie graphics card you throw at it. AKA upgradeability, in a small reliable package.

Cons: not much to mention at all here.

Other Thoughts: my build as described with a EVGA GTX 560(non ti), and SeaSonic M12II 520 is going to last a LONG time, at quite high overall quality. I play Crysis 3 on max settings and 70+ fps at 720p quality. It's cheap, and it works.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for Budget build

Pros: Great features for the price. Great for a budget gaming build. Full HT speed at 2600 (5200). Support for USB3 and SATA 3 that is nice at this price point.

Cons: Onboard graphics are quite old and slow. Wouldn't recommend if you are not planning to use a separate video card. Doesn't support any faster than 1866 DDR3. Only 2 SATA ports support SATA 3 (6G) so be sure to use the right ones. The rest are SATA 2 (3G).

Other Thoughts: I have bought a few of these for budget gaming builds. The 710 southbridge doesn't support SATA 3. It appears that they are using a separate controllers to get SATA 3 capability and USB 3 on this MB. Probably the reason why only two ports support SATA 3. But this should still be fine for most applications and allows these additional features at the reduced price.

3 out of 5 eggsNot So Good with Server OS

Pros: Placement of parts (CPU, RAM, SATA and PCIe slots) is good, they don't interfere with each other.

Cons: Board is not highly compatible with a server OS, such as Windows Server 2012.

Other Thoughts: Bought this board to build a small server for a business client. OS installed okay, but after installation was complete, system would lock up randomly, usually requiring a manual reboot (not good for servers). After some swapping out of parts, I concluded that the board was either defective or not compatible with Server 2012. I installed 7 Home Premium on another HDD with it, and it ran smoothly, so the board wasn't a dud.
Eventually RMA'd it, only because it didn't suit my application for it. Otherwise, a decent board for the price.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Socalmosquito,

Thank you for your purchase and review. Unfortunately, mainboard does not support server OS.
Please visit the link for supported OS at " http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/960GMU3S3%20FX/?cat=Download ".

4 out of 5 eggsGreat board for a great price, but...

Pros: -Comes with 2 USB 3.0 ports
-Easy install, worked on first try
-Great buy for a budget gaming rig
-Airflow is great and runs cool with stock CPU fan and stock 120mm
-Comes with driver suite
-Supports current AM3+ socket CPUs with no problem
-Provides/supports a plethora of OC features/utilities and voltage regulators
-Quick and painless BIOS Flashing
-Supports "Insta-boot" for those who are impatient and want their OS to boot within 3-4 seconds.

Cons: -No USB 3.0 20 pin header connector
-SATA connectors somewhat close to one another and heat sink
-Only 2 RAM slots -- no quad channeling for those who want to squeeze some performance from low memory RAM

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately, my budget was tight on me for my current build however I am satisfied with my buy. The only con that really gets me is the fact that there is no connector for a USB 3.0 20 pin header, mainly because my case's front panel now has 2 USB ports that are completely useless. For those who are willing to shell out an extra $20-30 I'd go with any of the ATX counterparts or MSI/ASUS equivalents. Though I guess it serves me right for letting the price go against my better judgement.
