4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap, USB3, SATA3, mATX, AM3+

Cons: Old 760G chipset, 'Slow' SATA3 chip, no front panel USB3, only 2 RAM slots

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for an AM3+ mATX board there's only a handful of options, and this is the only one with USB3 and 'SATA3'. I paired this board with an FX-6300, 16GB of RAM, a SATA3 SSD and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Everything posted immediately and reported correctly, no driver or bios issues, and I'm loving the speed.

4 out of 5 eggs1 Perfect, 1 Not

Pros: Good features and good performance.

Cons: Onboard sound went out.

Other Thoughts: I have bought two of these. 1st one is working perfectly. The second not so perfect. The onboard sound worked fine the first day. The second day a loud static sound erupted and then the sound went out.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA on arrival

Pros: ?

Cons: Doesn't really matter how good it is if it arrives dead on arrival. I wanted to set up my computer before going back home from my university, well, its ruined now. I think I'm just gonna refund, because who likes handling DOA issue by testing all the hardware parts?

Other Thoughts: Saw some DOA reviews, but thought they were few. But the next one may just be you.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget build board.

Pros: This is the first ASRock board that I've used on a build, and so far it has been a solid choice for the budget build the friends computer in his garage. They didn't want to spend much money but wanted to get out of the boat-anchor P4 powered unit he was using to run his electronic vehicle service manuals.

This board has a great blend of old & new tech, which was perfect for reusing his old PS2 mouse & keyboard and PATA DVD drive....all while having the luxury of being able to use a new 6Gb/s SATA hard drive & USB 3.0 in harmony.

The on-board graphics are more than enough for anything he'll use it for out in the garage. And all works fine with the FX-6300 I installed on it.

Cons: None so far, but its only been a week....though I'm not anticipating any issues.

2 out of 5 eggsAlmost a good board, but....

Pros: Nice layout, SATA 6gb, USB 3.0.

Cons: One of the memory slots (the "B" slot) was DOA.

Other Thoughts: I built the system using a FX-6300. Booted on 1 x 2Gb memory stick to check the board. Was reasonably fast using a SSD. Drivers loaded smoothly from the accompanying DVD. Good documentation manual. No glitches except for the DOA memory slot. RMA'ed back to Newegg without any delay. Board currently in transit back to Newegg for exchange for another identical board (fully working, I hope), not refund.

4 out of 5 eggsAnother winner from ASRock

Pros: Reasonable Price.
USB 3.0 ports.
SATA 3 (6Gb/s) ports.
FX CPU compatibility.

Cons: No front USB 3.0 header.
Could have used one more USB 2.0 header.
Front panel audio header too close to PCI slot.

Other Thoughts: Picked up one of these to rebuild my HTPC, went from a 2-core Intel (socket 755) to a 4-core Athlon II.
My boot/OS SSD and storage HDD are connected to the SATA 6Gb/s ports. So far, absolutely no problems with boot-up or drive access.
Granted, you have to install the SATA 3 and USB 3.0 drivers from ASRock's site. But once you do that, you're all set. I honestly don't know what the other reviewers are complaining about, I haven't had any trouble with this arrangement.
Just remember, if the motherboard has 960 in its model number, it will be based on the latest revision of the AMD 760/710 chipset. SATA 2 (3Gb/s) is going to be the native drive support and USB 2.0 will be the standard USB ports. And you can only use FX chips up to 95W TDP. Work within those standards and you won't have any trouble.
I would gladly buy another one of these for a mainstream machine or entry-level gamer. This isn't a motherboard you can hotrod.

4 out of 5 eggsGood board for price

Pros: It has all these neat places to install things like RAM and a CPU.

Cons: It seems that the system I have with this board runs slower than an otherwise identical system with a slightly pricier mobo. It's nothing major at all.

Other Thoughts: It works. It's cheap.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Mobo for an HTPC Build

Pros: Well designed, excellent build quality, easy (but limited) BIOS features.

Cons: None really. For its purpose as part of an HTPC setup this ASRock 960GM/U3S3 board does all I want. Just remember this is not a gaming board, it's just for basic office or web surfing, or as an HTPC board.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board, an AMD FX 6300K cpu and 8 GB of Gskill ram for a basic HTPC build to use with a Ceton cable card and a Rosewill HTPC case. All went well, booted up on initial power-on OK. This box runs at default, no overclocking. CPU cooler fan is quiet. BIOS is really basic but OK for my use. This box runs 24/7 to record 4 channels at once using 4 Tb of mechanical storage. For the price, this board is a great buy to build a "budget" box.

4 out of 5 eggsThe Right Stuff

Pros: It works just fine and does everything I need it to. It has FX 8 Core Support, SATA 3 6Gbs and USB 3.0, I needed a MicroATX board for my HTPC / Steam Gaming / Video Crunch box. Running windows 7 64 bit on an FX 6300 CPU with a Gigabyte R7 260x GPU, 16 Gb g.skill ram and an LG Blue Ray burner in a MicroATX mini-tower. The FX 6300 CPU used to be in an AsRock 970 Extreme 4 motherboard. The differences in benchmarked performance between the larger more capable ATX board and this MicroATX board was negligible.

Cons: Only has one PCIe 2.0 but what do you expect from a MicroATX board. Board configuration is a little odd, with the PCIe 2.0 slot being lower and closer to the bottom of the board than I like. Not a whole lot of breathing room for my GPU because it is in a MicroATX mini-tower. Even so the GPU temps seem unaffected by this. This would not be noticeable on a larger case like a mid tower.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid, but basic motherboard.

Pros: It has been over a year and I cannot say I have had any big problems with the board. Easy BIOS settings, if basic.

Cons: I have had problems at times waking from a sleep state (as mentioned in other reviews). Annoying, but for the price I cannot say it is a deal killer. Reason I deducted one star.

Other Thoughts: Keep in mind the limits of the board. 2 RAM slots. PCI 2.0. Does have 2X USB 3.0 though. It is a no-frills board. It has served me well so far though.
