3 out of 5 eggsKeep shopping

Pros: It's fairly stable, running debian 7... I think I might have needed to install 1 proprietary driver, but in the end it is a reliable system.

The sigle CPU is overkill for what I wanted, it's capable of watching MP4s. The CPU bottleneck isn't reached through transferring files over software raid1, although logging into the OS does find the CPU bottleneck fairly readily. Probably struggles with HULU but didn't check.

Cons: High power consumption, I idle at around 52watts with 2 HDDs and a chasis fan. I played with all the bios switches but couldn't get it lower than that. I primarily went shopping for a file server that I could leave on 24/7 and not worry about waste, but this thing is still pretty wasteful...

WOL is a bit odd, it works if you shut the system down normally, but if the system loses power it will lose WOL until next reboot.

7+ months in the CPU fan began making a really loud noise. I think it's a 40mm fan?? It's kind of a pain replacing it but maybe it's not needed since it went from 33C to only 43C with no fan (other than the chasis and PSU fans going).

Other Thoughts: I'd give this 4 stars if it weren't for the fact that I was trying to make an eco friendly green pc.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the WOL issue with loses power, please set the "Restore on AC/Power Loss[Power On]" at UEFI BIOS, Advanced, South Bridge Configuration.

4 out of 5 eggsNeat little utility PC

Pros: Runs Ubuntu 13.04 Raring
Built in VGA, Gigabit LAN
GREAT little BIOS package

Cons: USB 2.0
VGA only, no HDMI or DVI
Single Core CPU
Core Dumps with some OS and PCIE Video

Other Thoughts: Had trouble with core dumps trying to install 12.04 LTS when the PCIE Video card was installed. Without the PCIE, installation was no problem. System would freeze and core dump when the PCIE was used. Changing the memory to 1066 as suggested by others didn't help the core dump. Swapped RAM to no avail. By happenstance installed 13.04 Raring and voila, no more core dumps with PCIE video. Something is apparently not compatible with Ubuntu 12.04 and PCIE video. (Tried several different video cards as well)

In retrospect, I would have gotten the E350M1 which has DVI/HDMI built in as well is a dual core CPU.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: When I got the board, It was packaged very nicely. Connected it up to a power supply and harddrive just to install Windows because this is becoming the headunit in my car. When booting, the BIOS (UEFI) was mouse interactive and allowed for fast and easy access. It booted the Installation USB with speed, Installed fast, and restarted, posted, and was back up before I knew it. When running Windows 8 on it, It does not lag, It does not freeze.. It was just as smooth as my Gaming PC with Windows 7 on in which has an Intel i5 Quad Core processor. When installing the drivers (Which I had to transfer over to a USB because I didn't have another Sata DVD drive) they installed with easy even when having to be installed manually. After driver installation, I installed iTunes (Which will be the music handling service of my car) which to my surprise and liking, was installed faster than it installed on my Gaming PC. So far everything is running great, fast and really quiet'n'cool as they call it. As soon as I have everything in my car, I'll come back and post a video of it running nice and solid.

Cons: I wish it would have came with a sticker badge for my car :P

Other Thoughts: This board is great, but if you don't think this little board can handle what you want it to do, go for the E350M1 model with the Dual Core AMD E-350 APU. I do not have this board but I believe it is the same board but just with more connection ports such as DVI/HDMI, USB3.0, etc... and the Dual Core version of the APU used for the board.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad/not great

Pros: It has a mega ton of features for what you pay
The box my psu came in can probably run it.
Why is no one mentioning the bios simple and attractive

Cons: Slow painfully slow
No HDMI
I could not no matter what I did or how I did it install XP 32/64 bit guess it's not supported.

Other Thoughts: I originally bought it for an htpc build after getting everything all fired up I realized two things. One the processor could not handle running media center there was way too much lag when loading tv (yes I had dedicated graphics hd7xxx). Two the utilities that come with it are useless they eat too much processing speed. Needless to say this rig became a gift. If you want an htpc don't cheap out pay over 100 you'll thank yourself later. If you want to run Linux cool this will work otherwise all you are very limited to what you can do. This by no means weak just didn't meet my needs. You won't do better at this price.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy This Motherboard

Pros: Don't know, it doesn't work

Cons: I bought this ITX board for a project computer that was going to computer control DMX lights. The problem is there is no was to install windows of any kind on it. After booting from the windows cd I get the blue screen of death. I have changed cables, hard drives, memory and updated the bios to the newest version & changed every setting in the bios to make this work, and still the same problem exists. The forum and customer service for this company is worthless. I can't even get the forum to send me an email so I can sign up. Looks like I have a worthless paper weight and this entire project is dead in the water.

Other Thoughts: In all the years I have been building computers, I have never had this type of trouble with this lousy support. With a name like ASRock I should have known.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize that you having difficulty with mainboard.
BSOD usually related to memory.
Please set the UEFI BIOS default.
Test with 1 stick memory, try with another known good memory if its same issue.
Try with another Windows installation disc and optical drive.

4 out of 5 eggsSimple Needs

Pros: Small, simple. pretty low power, Linux compatible.

Cons: The usual - could be faster, cheaper, richer, prettier, etc.

Other Thoughts: I bought three for Linux LTSP clients. now I'm buying three more. The case and power supply cost more than the mobo and ram.
