2 out of 5 eggsPCIE issues

Pros: See my previous comments

Cons: ASROCK duplicated my problem on the test bench. They sent me a revised BIOS 1.70B. The MB still will not recognize the HVR with the North Bridge set to auto. With Gen 1 selected, it identifies the HVR as PCIE x16. The MB sees the card on boot, but it still disappears if I close Media Center and the computer enters the sleep mode.

Other Thoughts: I had not as yet put a graphics card in the MB. I do not know what would happen. I think rather than investing in a graphics card, I will get a different MB. Unfortunately, you only have 30 days to return a MB to New Egg. This is the first bad piece of equipment I have gotten from NE.

2 out of 5 eggsZ77M and PCIE 1.0

Pros: see my previous review

Cons: This is in response to Asrock's response on my New Egg review:

"For the issue, please check if the power management setting is available for TV card at device manager. Uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power "."

I had gotten e-mails from "John" on my tech support request, but he has not gotten back to me regarding the card disappearing when the computer enters the sleep mode. With regards to the response above, there is no power management option for the Hauppauge HVR 2250 in the Windows 7 64 bit device manager. I have checked both the Hauppauge card and the PCIE devices. I did however find a power management setting in the control panel/system/power options/balanced/change settings/advanced settings/PCI Express/Link state Power Management which is set to "OFF".

This does not help the problem! After a sleep the tuner card still disappears. Restarting the computer and entering the BIOS on reboot, the system browser does not even show the card! I can find nothing in the BIOS, ver 1.70, now that would preclude this problem. Having to remove and reinstall the card every time the computer sleeps is not an acceptable solution. Is this an inherent issue with the board or an isolated problem. I need to get this rectified. Steve

2 out of 5 eggsAsrock Z77M

Pros: It works quite well, some of the time.

Cons: MB does not recognize PCIEx1 TV tuner card with north bridge in auto, must select Gen 1. However, when waking from a sleep, it forgets the tuner card was there necessitating a reboot.

Other Thoughts: SATA connectors alternate directions. If you use locking SATA cables, it is extremely difficult to unlock them to remove a cable.
ASROCK tech support fairly responsive, but are currently stymed by the PCIEx1 forgetfulness after a sleep.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Splus,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

1 out of 5 eggsUSB 3.0 Ports Useless

Pros: Board works very well in all respects except there appears to be a generic issue with all the USB 3.0 ports.

Cons: Installed board and did a clean W7 64 bit install on a new Samsung 840 Pro SSD. USB 3.0 ports do not work even after installing drivers multiple times. Newegg replaced board with a new board and new board has same problem. ASRock has done a good job responding to my emails but other than telling me to install the drivers they have been no help. Giving up and just writing the $85 off as a lessoned learned expense and will replace with a more expensive Asus product like I should have done from the start.

Other Thoughts: Since two new boards exhibit the same problem with a new clean install I have to assume this is due to a design issue with the USB 3.0 ports. If I disable the 3.0 ports in the bios they work fine as 2.0 ports but do not work at all when they are enabled as 3.0 ports. The faster 3.0 ports were the primary reason I upgraded from my old board so I am very dissattisfied with ASRock.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize that you having difficulty with USB 3.0.
The ports should be worked under Windows with drivers insrtalled.
Please downloand and install the Intel USB 3.0 driver at link " http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77M/?cat=Download ".
Test with another USB devices to isolate the problem.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Z77 performance at a reasonable price from a reliable brand. Plenty of connections and features; easy to build a beast of a mATX machine.

Cons: If using a longer PCI-E graphics card, the layout of the connections (SATA in particular, as other reviewers have mentioned) leaves a bit to be desired.

Other Thoughts: My build:

Intel i5-3350P Ivy Bridge
ASRock Z77M mATX Motherboard
Kingston HyperX Black 8GB DDR3 1600
MSI Twin Frozr Radeon R9 270X 2GB
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD
CM Silent Pro M2 620W
CM N200 mATX Mini Tower

Running Tomb Raider 2013 at 1360x766 (HDMI -> older Samsung 32" 720p/1080i HDTV) with everything completely maxed, full anti-aliasing, tesselation, etc... No noticeable slowdown at any point thus far - this machine is a beast.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat so far

Pros: Z77 chipset, multiple fan headers, reasonable price

Cons: only 2 memory slots, comes with some bloatware, use care installing only what you want

Other Thoughts: The main thing I wanted to mention is that I thought I bent the CPU socket pins when I opened up the socket to remove the black plastic dummy plug, but about half of the pins in the socket are apparently supposed to be bent somewhat. After looking carefully I saw they were bent all the same say at a perfect angle that couldn't have been caused by bumping it, so I installed the CPU and fired it up. Everything works fine, ran Prime95 for 10 minutes with no errors.

So, don't panic if about 1/2 of the pins are bent but be sure they're uniformly bent. If there's a spot where it looks like something bumped the socket and bent the pins, that could be a problem.

Also, I didn't realize most of the software on the CD is bloatware. Some are neat tools but you really only need the drivers and possibly the extreme tuning utility. The other stuff just runs lots of background processes and hogs resources.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good Board

Pros: Works completely fine with my i7 3770k and my GTX660. Nothing wrong with it when i received it. Quick Shipping.

Cons: Some of the Software that the CD came with was pointless, like Norton, but it's kinda difficult calling that a con

Other Thoughts: I needed a motherboard for the 3770k that i had bought 7 months before i bought this. Needless to say I'm glad i did so

4 out of 5 eggsGood so far

Pros: Its working so far with i3-3220. Had the latest bios already. No bent pins. I will update if anything happens.

Cons: My Motherboard box was already opened and the plastic outer covering was missing completely. The whole back of the motherboard is sticky. Not sure if that will effect its longevity.

Other Thoughts: This is the first motherboard out of around 10 new ones that I have ever bought that has had this sticky-flux problem. Its also the first time i purchased a new item and received an open box. I wonder if the person before me returned it because it was sticky. :-(

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome motherboard!

Pros: I was struggling to find nice motherboard to go along with my i3-3220, as well as fitting inside a Micro-ATX case. Then I stumbled into this one, and the price point was perfect for what I was looking for.

Received 2.27.13, working perfect since.

Bought in a bundle with Intel i3-3220, saved $15

Cons: Only 2 RAM slots, but it IS a micro-atx board, so I guess that's to be expected. Other than that, I guess that it isn't free?

No Dual-monitor with onboard graphics and GPU. Only onboard, or gpu. Not both. One or the other.

Only 2x RAM slots

Had a hard time getting my case fan to work, until I put it in AUX1, versus either of the 2 Chassis Fan slots. It ran at full RPM regardless of settings, but it's an old fan, so maybe that's why?

Other Thoughts: Overall, this is definitely a great motherboard for anyone, whether it's for gaming, or just casual use. It definitely deserves 5 eggs for me. I run it with an Ivy Bridge i3-3220, an 8500GT 512MB, and 4GB DDR3 RAM, and it runs just about anything I throw at it so far. Mirrors Edge plays at max @ 1600x1200

1 out of 5 eggsripped off by newegg

Pros: none

Cons: I recently bought a computer motherboard from newegg that was damaged. I returned the MB two days after receiving it (well within the 30-day replacement period). I did not want a refund, just a replacement. I was denied because the board had bent pins. When I received the MB the pin protector was knocked off and the small pin the holds the video card in place was broken . I have been building computers for friends and family for the last ten years and I know what I'm doing. Newegg is a fraudulent company and I'm looking for a class-action lawsuit to join and participate in to sue newegg for fraud and deceptive business practices, can anybody help?

Other Thoughts: Used to be long time customer. Sending back all other newegg purchases

Manufacturer Response:

Dear AsRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. AsRock mainboards are fully tested to assure that they're working before shipped. The CPU socket pins on the mainboard are fragile and need to be handling with carefully. In addition, the CPU socket is covered with the cap to avoid damage the pins and should not be removed until installing a CPU. Please contact us at http://www.asrock.com/support/tsd.asp. We can assist you shortly.

Thank you
