BORN TO BE FAST

ASRock Z77 OC Formula, the professional OC orientated motherboard, incorporates an exclusive OC Formula Power kit, connector kit and cooling kit to help you achieve the highest overclocking score. As the Excalibur of Arthur, the Z77 OC Formula endows you with great power to break through the barrier and create the new record.

  • newegg Digi Power with 12 + 4 Power Phase Design The OC Formula Power Kit includes Digi Power, 12 + 4 Power Phase Design, Dual-Stack MOSFET (DSM), Multiple Filter Cap (MFC), and Premium Alloy Choke. Compared to analog PWM, digital PWM can optimize the CPU power solution and provide a proper and stable Vcore for the processor. Z77 OC Formula is equipped with CHIL 8328 silicon which features a new digital PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) design, providing CPU Vcore voltage more efficiently and smoothly. ASRock Z77 OC Formula is designed with a 12 + 4 Power Phase design. It features sturdy components and completely smooth power delivery to the CPU. Plus, it offers unmatched overclocking capability and enhanced performance with the lowest temperature for advanced gamers as well.
  • newegg Premium Alloy Choke & Dual-Stack MOSFET (DSM) & Multiple Filter Cap Compared to iron powder choke, the new Premium Alloy Choke technology on OC Formula Series highlights a special alloy formula which is able to reduce up to 70% core loss. The revolutionary choke construction features a highly-magnetic and heat-resistant design, increasing the board’s lifespan as well. DSM is an innovative new design of MOSFETs. The silicon die area is increased by stacking two dies into a MOSFET. The larger the die area, the lower Rds(on). Compared to traditional discrete MOSFET, DSM can provide larger die area and lower Rds(on), so the power supply for CPU Vcore is more efficient. MFC (Multiple Filter Cap) design includes a combination of highly conductive MLCC, DIP caps and POSCAP. MFC helps the system filter noise from high-freq, mid-freq to low-freq noise, delivering enhanced and higher current to the CPU. With the combined power of three capacitors, MFC allows users to overclock their PC rig to extreme levels without worrying about the hardware components.
  • newegg OC Formula Connector Kit OC Formula Connector Kit includes Hi-Density Power Connector and 15µGold Finger for CPU and memory sockets. Hi-Density Power Connector features a solid square-pin design. ASRock Z77 OC Formula is equipped with two High-Density Power Connectors, one for the CPU Power connector, and one for the 24-pin ATX power connector. The optimized design supplies current to the power more efficiently and achieves better electric conduction. Overall, Hi-Density Power Connector can reduce 23% power loss and decrease system temperature up to 22?. ASRock also has embedded 15µ Gold Finger for both CPU sockets and DRAM slots. Compared to other boards that come with only 3-4µ, ASRock Z77 OC Formula provides 15µgold components within the sockets, delivering triple performance than usual. With the unprecedented 15µ gold-inside design, overclocking the CPU and memory is easier than ever.
  • newegg OC Formula Cooling Kit Twin-Power Cooling combines active air cooling with water cooling. The ultimate heatpipe cooling design maximizes the system’s convection to expel hot air out, providing great air flow and faster heat dissipation. Brilliantly designed to boost performance with the lowest temperature, the OC Formula is built on an 8-layer-PCB design. It comes with 4 sets of 2 ounces copper inner layers, using only carefully selected copper materials for PCB layers, delivering lower temperature and higher energy efficiency for overclocking. GELID Solutions GC-Extreme Thermal Compound is an added bonus included in Z77 OC Formula which allows overclockers to stabilize the CPU’s temperature. Created for extreme users on highest level, the GC-Extreme Thermal Compound achieves the best heat conductivity from your CPU, VGA or even Chipset to your cooler. Not only keeping your rig cool, the GELID GC-Extreme can also make the compound non-freezing even at low temperatures when doing LN2 extreme overclocking.
  • newegg Easy Overclocking Now you’ve got a chance to learn a few tricks from the champion of global OC with NickShih’s OC Profile. It doesn’t matter whether you’re using a K-Series or No-K Series CPU, NickShih’s OC Profile will detect your CPU and offer you different levels of overclocking. Have a taste of Nick’s secret recipe for overclocking this motherboard instantly. ASRock Formula Drive is an all-in-one software to fine-tune different features in an user-friendly interface, which includes Hardware Monitor, FAN-tastic Tuning, Overclocking, OC DNA, IES, XFast RAM and Multi Thermal Sensor. The onboard Rapid OC button allows novice overclockers to manually raise and lower the CPU ratio, BCLK frequency and CPU VCore voltage, while serious OC enthusiasts can use it to get the highest level of overclocking performance from their system and find their CPU’s best margin. Timing Configurator provides subtle DRAM setting for professional tweaking. This app runs under Windows and activate your changes immediately.
  • newegg Comprehensive Monitoring and Control Multi Thermal Sensor provides users the temperature of various parts of the motherboard graphically in UEFI Setup Utility, so that users may precisely keep track and control of the temperature of each parts of the board. FAN-Tastic Tuning offers the flexibility to adjust the fan speed (RPM) relative to the system temperature. Users are able to adjust the setting by clicking the "+/-" and confirm by "APPLY" afterwards. For those who constantly need to remove then reinstall their PCIe cards and fear of causing damage, ASRock has added three PCIe ON/OFF switches to enable or disable the PCIe slots in a flick of your finger. Fine-Tuning V-Controller is a new collection of voltage fine tuning options in UEFI Setup Utility. It provides more than enough voltage configuration options for overclockers who wish to pursuit extremes. V-Probe is a 7-set of detection points laid on this motherboard. It allows overclockers to easily and quickly get the accurate voltage readings via the multitester.

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate: Good luck If It Fails

Pros: Was great while it worked.
The board had a lot of useful sensors for overlocking.
The board had a fair amount utilities on it to really try and push all sorts of extras out of it.

Cons: Unreliable. Failed within 9 months.
North Bridge Fan Failure within 7 months.
RMA Process is a nightmare and designed to have you lose out.

Other Thoughts: This board failed on me after 9 months. Okay, fine. Went through the RMA process and got a replacement after about two weeks. The replacement they sent me was physically damaged. After getting approval to have it shipped back for PHYSICAL damage caused either by ASRock's handling of the board of their carrier, they have now told me that the board tested fine electronically and that I'd need to pay for shipping both ways in order to get what their warranty/RMA system promised me on buying this board.

Sorry, the board was sent back for physical damage. ASRock makes such a big deal about damage, so I hold them to the same standard. The original board failed electronically, it is /not okay/ to send me a replacement with bent pins.

It is not okay to send me a damaged board in response to an RMA.

It is not okay to tell me that it was accepted, then turn around and say that I'm responsible for all shipping charges.

It is NOT OKAY to waste a full month of my time and keep my system offline for a full month when two weeks should have been enough.

If you buy this board, I really hope it stays alive for you long enough to justify the price because you will need every tool in your book to get any sort of reasonable response from ASRock's RMA Department.

RMA# 40394

2 out of 5 eggs1 year review ...Disapointing

Pros: Looks nice. Built in water cooling block on the VRM and North bridge. Bios is not bad. Lots of overclocking options. Still a little buggy. Temp sensors are all wrong and crazy inaccurate.

Cons: USB 3.0 has horribly buggy drivers (yes they are the most current version since this writing. Fan life is short on the VRM already replaced once after only 3 months. Needs another replacement even after reducing the duty of the fan. The space between PCIe slots are closer than other EATX and even other ATX boards I own. The last pcie slot on the end is near worthless unless you have a really narrow card in slot 2 (slot 1).
Constant error 62 on board LCD when restarted in windows 7 and windows 8. (doesn't happen as often with windows 8.1. These cons are all on a non-overclocked state. I haven't bothered to overclock its just too buggy. Last Pcie slot covers on board controls. build in sound is weak. I had to get powered headset and use on usb 2.0 slot. Usb is horrid on this board!!! Good luck installing windows with a Logitech keyboard and mouse. Only would work with a generic keyboard from W a l m a r t. Then after windows install you can switch back to a better keyboard. I wish I would have just returned the board when I had the chance :(

Other Thoughts: I would say pass on this board If I had to do it again. The support has not been bad when I contacted Asrock about the fan issue they shipped me a fan no problem. Silly dehumidify mode is well silly. Not even stable to mine with in a pure windows or ubuntu environment.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

2 out of 5 eggsBoard Failure After 9 Months

Pros: Build for out-of-chassis testing.

Wonderfully simple/easy BIOS/UEFI

Wicked fast with space to grow via overclocking.

Cons: Online Bios update server changed about five months after purchasing, breaking UEFI online update, requires manual
updating now.

Board Failure after 9 months.

North Bridge Fan Failure after 7 months, huge racket though it still seemed to be cooling properly (but I suppose not.)

Board is a little bigger than expected, requiring low-profile SATA cables to fit in the SATA ports.

Other Thoughts: I'm in the process of trying to get it replaced with ASROCK, but I'm pretty disappointed the board developed faults this quickly. I purposefully "overspent" on core components to give myself an extra amount of time to survive with this particular build, but to have the board die like this has shaken my faith with ASROCK and their flagship components.

I spent hours trying to pinpoint failures, but all in all the death of this board is inconsistent. Fails to power on consistently and is unreliable with known good components after less than a year.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Freyar,

Sorry to hear that the mainboard has malfunctioned after 9 months which’s due to nature of electronic product, it can happen.
For the BIOS update, please visit the link to download and update at " http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77%20OC%20Formula/?cat=Download&os=BIOS " .
For the VRM fan, we glad to replace if the fan has defective.
For the mainboard dimension, due to EATX format the size is larger than ATX, visit specification link " http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77%20OC%20Formula/?cat=Specifications " .
If you have any technical issues or warranty questions please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat software and MB

Pros: Great software with the motherboard, came with a free 4gb of RAM.

Cons: Lost an egg for not being as big as it could have been. I bought a full size tower and it had room for a larger board. I bought this board for the size but it wasn't as big it could have been. But, it is a good size still.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard and service

Pros: Great motherboard
Easy installation
Fits well in my Antec p183 case
Fast Delivery
Stable overclocking. I hit 4.5 ghz with 2600k with 1.288v

4 out of 5 eggsCoplex software required

Pros: Any OC thoughts - realized.
Spacious. And You will need a lot of space to accommodate two GIGABYTE GV-N680OC-4GD, which I have installed on it.
Cooling options are nice.
Control of temperature thru provided software is helpful while overclocking.
OC itself made easy with buttons and software.
Easy install and test with buttons on board itself.
Love the look of BIOS. Wish all of them to be like this one.

Cons: Not cheap.
Software on the website is not explained well. Not for starter overclocker like me. Choice of software dated few years ago confuses. Some of it I'm still not sure of, do I need it? How to remove it?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board!

Pros: this is a great board for overclocking. running a 2600k @ 5.2ghz. Relatively easy setting up the overclock, with the included profiles to get you into the ballpark setting wise. Built in ram profiles, really helps dial in your ram. This board seems to be aimed at the advanced tech knowledge to the semi-pro over clockers. This is not an entry level board. It does take a bit of over clocking experience to get set up right.

Cons: Apparently ASRock's customer service sucks. Thankfully I have not had to use it. And very occasionally the BIOS will reset itself to stock. Had that happen a few times since I've owned the board.

Other Thoughts: I love this board. I'm sticking with Sandy Bridge's overclocking ability with no plans to upgrade. A 2600k @ 5.2ghz with 16gigs of ram at 2133mhz is plenty of power to run anything and everything I need. Until Intel or AMD comes out with something 50% or faster. I have no real reason to build new.

3 out of 5 eggsFirst Hardware D.O.D.

Pros: It had the specs I wanted for my 5yr system replacement and upgrade.

Cons: Just after build finish and first successful initial dry run I buttoned up the case and started OS install... system just cuts off, board not getting power and when I go to look what might have happened all I here is a faint painting sound like air being released. Weirdest noise I could think to hear from it. Since then board refuses to power up at all, even with tested psu and cpu. Left my new board cpu and ram on a dusty shelf and went back to my Gigabyte and E8500. Maybe I'll get up the will to fix it but was just too defeated after waiting 5 yrs.

1 out of 5 eggsWORST COMPANY EVER

Pros: board has nice features and nice water block

Cons: From the start i had problems with the SATA ports none of the hard drives would be recognized in the SATA ports tried everything i possible could to get it to work to no avail. emailed asrock took three emails to get anyone's help which was no help at all worst costumer service e ever. next my new power supply comes in the mail from new egg swapped out everything connected the right way (keep in mind the board was just working 30 mins before the new PSU) turn on the system the mother board catches on fire so i get an RMA from new egg i checked everything before i shipped it back checked for bent pins i should have taken a picture because the motherboard i sent out did not have a single bent pin on it. the one they sent back to me has about 5 bent pins i have never bent a pin on a mother board ever. should have taken a picture of it before i sent it back not saying they did it but its kinda fishy. least to say new egg has lost me as a customer for this.

2 out of 5 eggsBad customer service from ASROCK.

Pros: Tons of USB slots.
USB 3.0
Easy overclocking.

Cons: The north bridge fan is going wack on me and I had this mother board for less then a year.
ASROCK Customer service is the worst!!!!!

Other Thoughts: The motherboard is pretty good for the price but my northbridge fan is going out already. I contacted ASROCK through email which took them a week to respond, they wanted to charge me to replace my motherboard or even the fan. I am still under warranty and should not have to pay!!!

Manufacturer Response:
