I am replacing a ASUS prgd-la motherboard with this.  Will it work?

I can't find any information on the ASUS prgd-la motherboard, so it's impossible to give a definitive answer.  The general answer is that any motherboard will work as long as is fits the case, clears any obstacles and has the desired ports and interfaces that you need.  Your power supply also needs to have the proper connectors.

If you are asking if it will work with your present processor and RAM, I wouldn't know, since like I said, I can't find any information on the ASUS board you mentioned and that wouldn't tell me which proc and RAM you have anyway. You'll likely have to purchase a new proc and RAM.

And then there's the question about Windows. If you're replacing the mobo into an existing installation of Windows, one thing is certain.... you'll have to reactivate Windows, so I hope you have the product number on hand.  There's also a possibility that Windows won't boot at all.  That was my experience, but I made drastic changes to a former E-Machines system so it was expected.  To remedy that issue, you'll need the original install disk and have to perform a "repair installation", followed by reactivation. No original install disk? Then you're faced with a fresh install with a new disk and starting all over from scratch since the drive will be formatted in the process.  Back everything up first.

As for the motherboard, I give it 5 stars. It boots super fast and has been extremely stable and reliable.  Works great with Win 7. No complaints.

Pentium D would be faster and dual core but would run awfully hot and would require some pretty hefty/noisy cooling. If you're committed to using this motherboard, why not go with the fastest core 2 duo proc it will support? Depending on what you're using this system for, you're limited by the AGP graphics and the memory anyway. I found this motherboard and a core 2 duo proc made a decent linux box, but ultimately moved on to a more up-to-date system that allows me to dual boot linux and Windows 7. Hope this helps.

does anyone ever try to install and run windows 95 on this motherboard?

I haven't tried it and I wouldn't.  Win 95 does not have drivers for the systems on this board, nor does the manufacturer offer them.

At best, you'd end up with the minimum basic video resolution, no sound and no network connection.  Since there are no '95 chipset drivers for this board, you may also lose on efficiency of the drive and USB interfaces.

If '95 is a must, I suggest that you install XP, then install Microsoft Virtual PC (it's free), then install '95 on the virtual drive.  Of course, there are some limitations with that, but it's about as good as it gets.

According to the ASRock website, it only lists up to the E6700 Conroe on the supported CPU list.  You can Bing 775I65G R3.0, and ASRock's web page is the first non-sponsored page. Click on the sub link under the main link.  It says CPU Support list.

Is this compatible with a pentium 4 cpu?

Yes, all Socket 775 Pentium 4 CPU's, including Pentium D and Pentium EE will work on this motherboard.  Also some Core 2 Duo and Quad CPU's as well.

Can I replace a ECS 945GCT-M3 board with this one?

Yes, but you'll run into the usual issues such as: (1) Is the RAM you already have compatible?  Check ASRock's recommendations for that motherboard and see if what you have is on their list.  (2) If you're using Windows, you will likely need to reactivate it due to hardware differences and/or perhaps reinstall it due to driver differences (it may not boot with the previous installation).

Does this board support Core 2 Quad 8400?

I have not attempted to install a Q8400 processor in the motherboard, but if you go to the Asrock website and look for this motherboard information, it gives you a compatible cpu list.   Unfortunately, the 333 (1333) fsb Core 2's are not on the list.   From the research I have found, the max fsb that this board can run on is 300 (1200).  This version of the board does include 200 (800) fsb and 266 (1066) Conroe, Kentsfield, and some Wolfdale processors.

Question 9

The manual for this motherboard says: "Do NOT use a 3.3V AGP card on the AGP slot of this motherboard!  It may cause permanent damage!".

I was hoping to use a SAPPHIRE 9600 XT Graphics card with this system.  I have asked both ASRock and Saphire if this graphics card can be used.  ASRock told me to ask Sapphire and Sapphire never answered my question.  Can anyone help with this ?  Thanks.

Your 9600 isn't 3.3v so it will work just fine. All 3.3v cards are very old and are AGP 1x/2x only (e.g. 3dfx voodoo cards)

Will this board work with a Intel c2Q Q6700 2.66 GHz processor?

Should not be an issue with the latest bios.  This board really shines with its ability to support much older operating systems.  These older OS may not support dual or quad core processors.  I use mine in a dual boot Win ME/ XP machine for older games.
