Pros: space for lots of ram and drives. dual socks. Supports a wide range of hardware

Cons: two of the mounting screws are located under the tabs for the ram. It is very difficult to tighten these screws. Especially in a tight case

Other Thoughts: Ensure your case can fit this. ITs a large motherboard. NOT E-ATX but SSI-EBB

5 out of 5 eggsgreat board, smokes SM X9DAi and ASUS alternatives

Pros: Worked with ES chips right out of the box
16 RAM slots
Tons of slots for SATA drives
Rock solid
Great value, much $$ / feature than the competitors

Cons: One bad RAM slot

Other Thoughts: I have this board set up w/ 128 gb of ECC registered ram (8 16 gb modules), two ES V2 chips, and a bunch of SSDs and physical drives. My OS is Fedora 20. It's running like a champ- the most stable board I have out of 15 in the cabinet. The only issue I have is one of the RAM slots doesn't work... but aside from that I couldn't be more pleased after about 5 months of uptime. Customer service is also top notch. I also own the X9DAi (it's ok) and have returned a couple of the ASUS boards. This one is by far the best, and we will be buying more.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat FreeNAS MOBO

Pros: I built this with a NORCO 24 drive case with 3x 6tb drives and 3x 4tb drive. Installing freenas went on without a hitch no weird driver issues or crashing. Performance is pretty good. CIFS share transfer maxes out the 1gig nic card with Plex and owncloud jails running in the background. With an average 15% CPU usage on a Xeon E5-2620 and 32GB ECC ram.

Cons: Only real compliant are the instruction are that great but if your a techy person you can figure it out.

Other Thoughts: If you want a monster FREENAS box this is the way to go.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard

Pros: Ok, so after reading the above reviews I was nervous about buying this board. But I am very happy I did. I had an old supermicro mobo with 4gb of ddr2 ram running an esxi server. I bought this as a replacement. I dropped the board in and it booted esxi right up and never even stuttered (with the exception the networking in esxi was messed up but that was to be expected). This board runs amazing with 32gb of PNY DDR3 ram at 1600Mhz, Intel Xeon E5-2620 v2, lsi 9260-4i, intel sas expander, intel quad port nic, and a Noctua NH-U9DXi4. It runs 3 vm's (until I get another processor and another 32gb of ram) without question. These servers are a Windows 2012 server running vcenter, Ubuntu server for owncloud, and a media server for on the fly transcoding and streaming movies.

Other Thoughts: It took me under 20 min to install the processor, rip the old supermicro board out, drop this in, and get it to boot esxi the first time it was powered on.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I'm using it as a virtualization / storage server machine with a Xeon E5 and 20 hard drives through a LSI SAS HBA. Arch Linux with ZFS for the drives.

This board runs like a champ.

Cons: PWM fan speed can't be read or controlled from Linux. It uses some weird chip that lm_sensors and speedfan don't support.

Other Thoughts: Haven't used the IPMI feature, so I can't speak to that.
Also only using it with one CPU for now, the 2nd socket is to future-proof this server; I'll add the 2nd CPU later.

3 out of 5 eggsASRock EP2C602-4L/D16

Pros: Lots of RAM capacity, good price for the quality.

Cons: Was probably one of the more difficult motherboards to configure. It seems like there were a lot of peripherals that are not compatible with the board. I kept getting WHEA_UNCORRECTIBLE_... Errors and crashes during setup until I found the integrated Intel device causing the issue, and went out to the Intel site and applied the latest driver, which wasn't included with the Asrock driver package (both DVD and online).

Other Thoughts: Once I figured out which hardware was good to work on the board its actually pretty good, but took me a couple days to configure, which shouldn't have been the case.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

4 out of 5 eggsGreat "cheap" dual cpu board.

Pros: You can pack lots of memory on this dual socket board (256gb). Pretty good SATA and SAS support. SSD's work fine too, but you can't get the Intel SSD Toolbox to work with the C602 chipset. At least the TRIM command is passed on to the drive.

Plenty of fan connectors, and a nice board layout overall. too.

Cons: First board had a surface mount cap sitting in the bag. Looked like it fell off one of the pads due to a cold solder joint (bad oven profile Asrock?). Had to get a replacement.

Overclocking options are just not happening here, but you buy this for its stability right?

USB 2.0 only on board is a drag.

Other Thoughts: I'd buy another given the choice.

5 out of 5 eggsGeorge

Pros: Rock Solid so far! Very impressed with the board!!! I expected trouble, but so far none. Price was fantastic too, for what the board capable of delivering. I use it as a rendering machine with a single Xeon E5 2680, so it's always on 100%. Each run takes between 3 to 15 days, so it's solid!
Lot's of connectivity and expandable. Use it with Win7 Pro 64bit and yes it's working flawlessly, although its only 1 CPU right now...

It can take many different kind of LGA 2011 CPU's even V2!
I like the board's load/heat balancing feature (1 cycle off every 1000) I don't know whether it exist with other manufacturers, but it can be useful.

Cons: I have to note that I'm less than impressed how these boards use a passive heatsink to cover the chipset. I actually burned my finger doing the first testrun!
Because I was worried that it might lead to instability I placed an 80mm case fan, blowing straight to the passive heatsink. It's cold and the board is stable! Also there are some misleading details on Asrock's website. There are webpages that notes it would work with Win7 64bit, but the online manual I believe doesn't mention it. Anyhow it does works although I only use 1 CPU right now.

Mine came with Bios 1.40 (Check if you plan to use it with v2 Xeons as they might required higher bios to work on!)

Other Thoughts: So far so good.
Win7 64bit Pro
300GB Raptor
Xeon E5-2680 with Evo 212 Cooler
2x4GB DDR3-1600 ECC REG Black Diamond Memory (They ran at rated speed as Xeon2680 will use DDR3-1600 at that speed!)
+ 1 extra fan oriented toward passive heatsink

4 out of 5 eggsupdated review

Pros: Supports v2 processors, 16 RAM slots, includes support for 6 SATA3 devices. I had a great technical support person.

Cons: QC -- I received 2 bad boards before getting one that worked.

Other Thoughts: Updated review: ASRock support was VERY responsive and helpful. My contact there pulled a new board, tested it with a good approximation of my configuration, and swapped it with my defective board. New board works very well. Still not happy about having 2 bad ones, but impressed with the efforts they made to fix the problem.
