5 out of 5 eggsTop-notch motherboard

Pros: Well built, durable, excellent features (especially the dual Intel NICs), supports both UEFI and Legacy BIOS modes, good overclocking ability.

Cons: No USB Attached SCSI (UAS) support in Windows 7. Only ASUS motherboards support UAS in Windows 7.

Other Thoughts: Excellent motherboard. Very stable.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Mobo but a misleading feature

Pros: -pretty good quality
-pretty easy to set up
-good price compare to competition

Cons: The main reason I bought this is for this one feature.. but I wish I researched more about it. It was never clear until you ask people how it works.

Basically I was excited for the HDMI in switch feature. But BE WARN, you can only use it if you are going to use the integrated GPU. Like your monitor is connected through the mobo DVI port.

It will not work if you have a discrete GPU (Radeon, Nvidia) I was so disappointed when I found out as I already had it built. I wish Asrock can somehow override this but I doubt it.
Lesson learned, research first and don't always trust how they market their features.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy this motherboard.

Pros: It worked ok for 6 months. It would freeze about every month or so while in BIOS or during post even after applying the latest firmware updates. I shrugged it off until poop hit the fan. One of the SATA ports went out. :(

Cons: Had to RMA this motherboard after 6 months. One of the SATA ports went out. The RMA process from the time I shipped it till the time I got it back took 23 days. Furthermore, after getting it back It would intermittently freeze no matter the OS. Performed extensive troubleshooting and Identified the motherboard being the sole culprit.

Other Thoughts: I know this motherboard has a rich feature set compared to other motherboards around the same price range but trust me, stay away. Don't think it can happen to you.

I recommend Asus or Gigabyte. ASRock motherboards just don't feel right.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. All replacement mainboards have been stress tested to assure that they're working before shipped.
For the freeze issue, Please clear the CMOS.
Set the UEFI BIOS default.
Check the CPU and system are not overheating.
Test with single memory module, switching another memory if problem still persist.

3 out of 5 eggsCheck OS Compatibility first

Pros: price - value for money
dual intel nic
vt-d support

Cons: Lack of OS Support
Does not natively support any of MS professional OS or their derivatives - Will not run Server 2008, 2008R2, 2012, 2012R2, Windows home server ... etc.

Intel NICs are the limited, consumer versions with limited driver support.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to run my home business server on (needs to run virtual machines for exchange server, linux (hadoop cluster) as well as serve as a file server and htpc. (I know - strange - but i only want 1 pc to run 24/7).

When Asrock said the board supports win 7, 8 and 8.1, I wrongly assumed that it would support the (kernel identical) server versions. I was wrong. The Asrock driver installer only installs drivers on the non server versions. With the exception of the nics, drivers for all of the hardware can be downloaded manually and installed. This presents a small problem - no nics!

So, you have to install an extra nic to download the drivers and then install them manually.

Then you can download the intel nic drivers for win 7 ir 8 and hack them so they will install. (you also have to disable integrity checking).

To make a long story short - you can get it too work, but ... i would rather do other things.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Thank you for your purchase and review. Unfortunately, mainboard does not support server OS since it is for desktop.
However, we do have server boards.

1 out of 5 eggsupdated review

Pros: It is a nice board when it works. When the first one worked it was great.

Cons: First board worked for days and died. 2nd try on this board was DOA. Buyer beware. Thinking of steering clear of these A brand boards. Theyre not the quality they used to be.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Sorry to hear that second mainboard has DOA.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard and check the Dr.Debug code for reference to contact tech support.
Unplug the ATX power, remove all components from mainboard.
Remove the mainboard from chassis, place it on mainboard’s box.
Clear the CMOS.
Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan.
Test with single memory module.
Test with onboard VGA.
Plug the 24 pins + 8 or 4 pins ATX power.
Turn the power on (using onboard power button) to check if its post.
If problem still persist, please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

2 out of 5 eggsBios issues, Realtek DOA

Pros: Sleek, easy to use

Cons: DOA. Reaktek wouldn't start. Detected with Astra32. Clock timer 3x normal speed. Upgraded Bios and still had all the issues. RMA'd for sure.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the Realtek audio issue, please turn the power off.
Clear the CMOS.
Set the UEFI default.
Download and install the driver at link " http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z87%20Extreme6/?cat=Download ".
Plug the analog speaker to rear speaker port (green).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Features, no problems!

Pros: I love the asrock's graphical bios! It updated to the latest firmware as soon as I plugged in a network cable, before even installing windows!!
It has some preset overclock profiles, but it's easy enough (and probably safer) to tweak the settings yourself.

Cons: For some reason, the bios HW monitor is saying my cpu temp is 50 degrees C. Every single other temp monitor tells me 30c, so I'm not sure what's causing this. However, after an initial freakout, I realized what was wrong and I'm not going to dock an egg. Mobo bios temps are notoriously inaccurate.

Other Thoughts: FYI, when overclocking a 4770k, you HAVE to enable turbo mode in bios, or your increased multiplier won't take.

4 out of 5 eggsasrock z87 extreme6

Pros: fired right up and runs smooth so far I'm happy with it this is my first intel build and it came together better than any of my AMD builds .came with old 1.90 bios but I have not seen anything that has me feel I need to flash to latest. fired up and running smooth did not need to adjust anything from first power on . I mean what more can you ask for ?

Cons: asrocks reply to my last review.. had A6 code but it was a non-issue due to loading OS and chipset drivers it was gone and all is well. bios should have been updated from the start and not a old one if buying today but as I said in the pros I have not had any reason to flash to the latest as of yet everything running good and stable

Other Thoughts: some folks may not be able to go online at any time they want or need to. dr debug info should be in the printed manual that came with the board. this is my only internet device and I was down wile doing this build , so your response is really no help to me at all. but its ok its all good it ended to be just a non-issue and this build works as expected it should also my last review was to be 4 egg I guess I mis-checked that ... sorry

5 out of 5 eggsSolid motherboard, lots of ports, works perfect.

Pros: I bought this board Summer 2013, still going strong. It was cheap and had heaps of features. 10 SATA? Sweet. I actually use 8 of them. Bios updates. UEFI Bios works great.

Cons: I don't think it has a working WOL, but not a big issue.
